I think one of the cooler things about this new Mariners team is that the guys that have come through SA in the past year-and-a-half have been some of the coolest guys to talk to - baseball or otherwise.

Morse, Reed (didn't play in SA, but I met him at the Futures Game), Felix, Betancourt, Dobbs, Hunter Brown, Choo, Buglovsky, Fruto, B-Liv....

What's so special about this feller?

Young kid, hasn't been playing ball all that long (relatively speaking...five years?) from Venezuela.

Kid hits very-high 90s on the gun, wicked breaking stuff and a great change.

Essentially breezed through the minors.

He made his debut a few days ago August 4th against the Tigers.

He went....
5.0 IP 3 H 2 R 1 ER 0 HR 2 BB 4 K
but got the L cause Mariners only got him one run.

Last night he went....
8.0 IP 5 H 0 R 0 ER 0 HR 0 BB 6 K
and he got the W even though the team only got him one run again.

First teenage rookie to start a game since '84.

I used to work for a Web site that covered the Seattle Mariners organization. He was in High-A when I started working and he was quickly promoted to SA last year.

i will watch that game on mlb.tv

i tried to watch his last start, but apparently the only camera angle was behind the catcher from sort of a distance, i was unable to get an accurate gauge of his mad skillz. i have watched many games on mlb.tv and that is the first with that angle, that game must not have been televised by anyone.

I watched the game, he is very impressive, sick sick stuff. He has trouble with location of fastball at times but that will come with time. Barring injury, he will have a shelf full of cy young awards by the time he is done.
