Nah dude. That's a small rattlesnake. You can tell by the head where you see it is wide because of the venom glands. Viper.

http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2014/story/_/id/10904374/portland-trail-blazers-find-rattlesnake-visitors-locker-room

SAN ANTONIO -- The Portland Trail Blazers found a poisonous surprise when they arrived in visitors' locker room at the AT&T Center before Thursday's Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals.

Reserve forward Thomas Robinson found a rattlesnake in his locker a couple of hours before tip-off against the San Antonio Spurs, spotting it when he placed his shoes in the cubby.

"I was scared," said Robinson, who added that he'd only seen snakes on Discovery Channel before. "I ain't gonna lie, I was scared."

Robinson reacted by screaming and leaping "about five feet high and 20 feet back."

Robinson wasn't the only player to admit he was spooked:

Reserve guard Will Barton, Robinson's neighbor in the locker room, claims he kept calm while hopping up on his chair. There was all kinds of commotion until "our brave trainers," as Robinson referred to them, corralled the beast.

Estimates of the rattlesnake's size ranged from 18 inches to four feet. It was believed to be a baby.

"Big enough," Barton said.

The rattlesnake was black and white, the Spurs' colors, as Robinson noted. Rumor has it that Spurs shooting guard Danny Green collects snakes.

"That's the No. 1 suspect right there," Barton said, laughing.

This isn't the first incident with critters at the Spurs' arena, which hosts a huge rodeo each year. There have been several bat sightings during games at the AT&T Center, most infamously when Spurs sixth man Manu Ginobili swatted one out of the air with his bare hand while on the court on Halloween in 2009, when the bat caused play to be stopped and players to scatter.

Ginobili got a thunderous cheer from the crowd when he carried the bat off the court, but it wasn't such a humorous situation when he had to get rabies shots later.

The Blazers managed to emerge from the rattlesnake sighting unharmed.

"It's bizarre to have a venomous snake in your locker room," Portland coach Terry Stotts said. "I don't know if it's happened before. That sounds like an ABA story."

We have not had rain in forever.

Predators follow other things coming in seeking moisture.
Its not a rattlesnake either. Wonder who reported that...

Jesus, you would think a bat got into the ATT center or something.

Not to mention rattlesnakes tend to be stockier than that. It's also constricting the the hook, rattlesnakes do not constrict.

I had a 40cm baby red belly black snake in my kids pool last summer. I ran like bitch too... but I eventually came back with a shovel and took care of it. I was told afterwards that the venom in baby snakes can be worse.... also I'm in Australia where snakes mean business.

They say the same thing about baby snakes here. It's not the venom that's worse...it's the fact that juvenile snakes haven't learned how to control how much venom they release, so every strike empties the magazine. Adult snakes release what they (think they) need.

Not a snake expert, but another possibility is a bullsnake. In these parts, bullsnakes can get very big, and while non-venomous, are known for having a bad attitude, to include rearing up and hissing...

Must have been planted. I grew up in TX for 20+ yrs and never saw a snake indoors. Glad it wasn't a rattler or there would need to be a serious investigation, especially if it struck. Even so it's pretty lame to do that. Grow the fuck up.

It would be fucked up if it was a poisonous snake, but since it wasn't....I think it's pretty damned hilarious.

People are reading to much into this.... Buildings settle, causing cracks in the foundation... there is loads of plumbing.... The place is not monitored 24/7 with security camera's that cover every inch of the place....

Most likely it got in either through some plumbing or some cracks in the foundation.... It's "family" may hav been living there for YEARS off of rats (it IS a Rat Snake after all).

It is funny that it happened and it is fun to speculate that some person planted this snake to "rattle" the Blazers but it is extremely unlikely. You would think if someone planted this snake in the Blazers locker room they would pick someone more prominent than fucking Thomas Robinson's locker.
