Funny, as much as Dan likes to spout his "Bush knew about 9/11" conspiracy theories, you'd think he would have readily been speaking up on this one by now...

Weldon said that in September 2000, the unit recommended on three separate occasions that its information on the hijackers be given to the FBI "so they could bring that cell in and take out the terrorists." However, Weldon said Pentagon lawyers rejected the recommendation, arguing that Atta and the others were in the country legally so information on them could not be shared with law enforcement.

"Lawyers within the administration — and we're talking about the Clinton administration, not the Bush administration — said 'you can't do it,'" and put post-its over Atta's face, Weldon said. "They said they were concerned about the political fallout that occurred after Waco ... and the Branch Davidians."

However, because of concerns about pursuing information on "U.S. persons" — a legal term that includes U.S. citizens as well as foreigners admitted to the country for permanent residence — Special Operations Command didn't give the Army information to the FBI. It is unclear whether the Army provided the information to anyone else.

Typical Clinton administration - lead by the court of public opinion and polling instead of doing what's right.

I saw this idiot on FauxNews this morning. Yeah, their not republican biased. :rolleyes

Always wanting to blame someone else. Like Bush isn't paying attention to public opinion now trying to come up with an exit strategerie for Iraq now that America is getting wise to his shenanigans. Posturing for '06 elections is all that is and even you know it.

Fact is that Dubya dropped the ball and you can't handle it.
But of course the 9/11 commission was BS since it didn't make Dubya look like the God you all think he is.

Weldon said Pentagon lawyers rejected the recommendationOk, which ones? I guess he could at least tell Robert Novak.

It was the law back then and different thinking.
Clinton could have done more but I also remember when he bombed Afghanistan to hit an al Qaeda training camp (and try to kill Bin Ladin)? The republicans kept screaming "NO WAR FOR MONICA!"
So both parties were at fault in MY opinion.

Sorry Joe, you have osama and Bosnia mixed up there. And bill clinton later on admitted that he didnt think much to get osama when sudan offered him on a silver platter. so bill is all too blame on that one.

You are correct sir but the point was that the republicans made a stink about the bombing. But hell, I could be wrong about that too.

But I thought the August 1998 bombing when Clinton ordered missile strikes was an effort to kill Osama bin Laden but there was widespread speculation from the republicans. I don't remember it being about Bosnia.

Ehhhh, wrong.

I don't agree with everything Bush has done/is doing. Considering all the "Bush knew about 9/11 before it happened" bullshit, I just find it interesting that this seems to indicate that Clinton's lawyers ran and put their heads in the sand on this one.

And spare me the "oh it's Fox News" crap, it was reported on CNN and others as well (kinda funny how it went from lead story to nowhere on their front page in two hours - gotta love unbiased coverage ;) ).
