Wish me luck guys. Evacuations under way. That time of year, 94 degrees and 40 mph winds. FML.

'07 was a terrible year for you guys...and SoCal in general. This 100 degree heat is not the business.

Winds have shifted back on shore 25+ mph. Very bad news. Still 99 degrees.

Shit man, hope your house is OK. I always remembered September being the really bad Santa Anna season, but you guys are probably in a worse drought than even Texas after that shit winter California had. Damn, I remember how impossible it was to breathe in really nasty fire seasons like 07 when the sky was dark orange and Malibu was going up in flames.

Just got back from watching multiple marine chinooks get water from a large pond a few minutes from my house. Sat on the edge of the water, pretty cool. The two fires near me don't seem to be threatening any more structures. That was damn stressful. Still some others going strong now, hope they have enough resources. 9 fires total today. Motherfucking arsonist.

It has it's pros & cons

Good: Clean, safe, beach+mountains+desert close by, bordering Mexico and uber multicultural

Bad: Super spread out (life on a freeway), no sub culture or downtown (small town feel), bordering Mexico and uber multicultural

IMO, it's vastly overrated. Especially by the lifers who never travel overseas or leave in general. Look, it's arguably the best weather in the World because of the lack of Heat but that doesn't avoid all the major Cons.

The two near me are under control for the time being, weather permitting. Had some opportunities to get some great shots yesterday but my phone died due to being on the Cal Fire scanner all day.

No structures lost where I'm at with two separate fires, extremely lucky, especially considering the one nearest me was 6,000+ acres and still burning. Rancho Bernardo, Carlsbad, San Marcos, and Escondido not as lucky. Most homes lost there were all million dollar+ homes. This week was nasty, especially for May. 95+ degrees and 40 mile santa ana's all week long.

Looks to be done near me, 5 helicopters sitting in wait though. I'm heading out to get some Yellowtail in Mexico this weekend, been a stressful week. Couple Cuba Libres on the boat and I'll be set.

Private or Party boat? They've been hitting nicely up near San Clemente--White Sea Bass are hitting, too. Should've taken today off and tried to get some.

Friend's boat. I'll never set foot on a party boat, fuck that. We've been getting Yellow's all year long around the Coronados off Rosarito. We hit up San Clemente Island every now and again but it's a long run for us and the military can shut you down with no notice once you're there, makes for an even longer run home.

I don't have the $$ to have my own boat. My friend used to have one but he lost it in his divorce--we did well at Catalina. Nothing like SD and its proximity to the Coronados and Mexico in general. Yeah, I've been privy to a military shutdown once @ San Clemente. Also on a trip out there, someone had a heart attack and passed away. That and a boat fire so it has been an up-and-down adventure. But the boat (engine) fire trip did land me my first WSB so I can't complain.

You are a moron lol
No downtown? Were you here last before Gaslamp district and the ballpark was built or what? I've lived in Kansas City, San Antonio, Tucson, LA and San Diego. San Diego pretty much shits on 99% of cities in the U.S and most places outside of the U.S. The amount of Italians, Russians, Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese, etc still coming fresh from overseas tells you a lot about how great this place is.

A friend that has a boat is ALWAYS better than having your own. I just chip in for gas, bait, booze, and food with no complaints. Another friend of mine has a decent sized sail boat so our plan this year is to go with both boats, anchor the sailboat at San Clemente, fish all day and have a comfortable boat to sleep on when we get back. Should work out nicely.

I was here before & after Gaslamp/Petco etc. The growth and benefit has been stagnant over the past 5-10 years. For every new Club/Bar that opens, another one closes. If San Diego wasn't 1.5 hours from Los Angeles, there would be much less tourism. You can see and experience everything San Diego has to offer in 3 weeks. It's a big reason why so many people smoke Pot around here, to deal with the boredom. I'm currently in the process of moving to Berlin. After spending extended period of time there, I can never look at San Diego the same. It's a nice little town to me now. If you don't enjoy the beach on a weekly basis (few times a month in Winter) in San Diego, you are wasting your money

Fire season is usually more around september/october/novemeber because of the Santa Ana winds. I think both 2007 and 2003 fires were in November.

Didn't end up going to the Coronados and instead fished the bay all weekend. Caught a ton of bonefish, didn't even know they existed here! Always thought they were strictly a Florida fish. Damn fun to fish for. Got some bay bass and a few small Halibut. Nothing special and nothing to take home and grill, but I'm hooked on the bonefish. Guess they are here year round.

They're not native to here--but they're around the bay/inlets/shallows though. I've caught some when fishing for bay spotted bass. Fun to mess with though. They're really killing the biscuits this week. Yellows getting hot, too.

Looks like the ones here are native to Cortez. I don't much do much onshore fishing if any at all but now I think I'll try to do more, nice not having to spend money on fuel as well. Heard the Coronados were a parking lot this weekend so we steered clear. Got all my licensing taken care of so I'm all set for next week, could be on a new boat by then too. My friends found the perfect upgrade down in Shelter Island, thinking they'll pull the trigger today.

Nice! My friend went on a Catalina trip this weekend and did pretty well. 22lb halibut and 2 25lb yellows + copious amounts of Calicos on the plastic and short White Sea Basses.
