He's a unrestricted free agent this summer, and he's only gonna be 37... what do you guys think? He's probably going to be looking for one more run at a ring, and we need a backup to fill in the other 20-25 mins Kawhi doesn't play...

We have enough shots to go around, that's for sure, unless Patty is in.

He's still one of the best defenders in the NBA. He might be worth looking at if the price is right.

He'd be a good option to replace Splitter in the SL. Then the Spurs could finally get an athletic PF to out next to Tim.

He'd be a nice piece to reload with for one season.

Of course, if Duncan retires it's a moot point.

This, and I'm not excited about it at all, because he's just going to be another black hole at SF in a long line of them for us over the past few years....

If he wants a chance to ring, he'd sign up. Remember when Glenn Robinson and Tony Massenburg joined up for the free ring? I wouldn't mind Pierce on our roster as a bench guy, certainly couldn't be bad at all. Vince Carter proves that older superstars still have a place in the NBA off of the bench.

I totally agree. He primarily would be backing up Kawhi and will only be playing 15-20 minutes a game. This isn't like the '08 -'10 Spurs were the Spurs had old guys starting and old guys backing them up. The old starters are backed up by young guys and vice versa.

Of all the available SF, Pierce would be my #1 choice as a signing. Good defense and clutch shooting, that is exactly what you want coming off the bench.

On the cheap he would be a great option, but who does he replace? It's always good to have shooters, but where does he fit in the rotation?

IMO, Joseph wouldn't get any minutes and Manu minutes would be reduced even more. that would give Pierce like 20 minutes a game. Spurs play a 10 man rotation in the season and Joseph would be the guy to be dropped from the rotation.

I believe Patty will resign with the Spurs, but if not, well Joseph will just replace Patty minutes and Pierce would pickup the slack.

Chinook
05-15-2014, 09:24 AM
Now that we've seemed to have moved into serious territory with this thread, I'll say no. The last thing the Spurs need is another player who Pop would play instead of Leonard or Green. A player like Marion (a legitimate small-ball four option) is one thing. But at this point, the team does need another player who wants the ball like Pierce does, especially one of such fading ability.

Baam
05-15-2014, 09:29 AM
Yeah Manu and Pierce would be a bad combination anyway... I also think that the off season strategy in general depends too much on what's gonna happen in the WCF to really predict anything at this point...

Cowboys_Wear_Spurs

Oh, Hell no!

Someone actually suggested the Jet, the 2nd most hated player by Spurs fans next to Karl Malone.

My take on Pierce is that he would need to come the SA with the mindset Finley did. No more ISO ball. But the fact that Pierce is an excellent passer, good defender, and excellent shooter, I think he would fit in nicely with the Spurs.

If the Spurs do make a go at him, I am sure they would tell him exactly the role he would have before he would signed with them. This probably is not going to happen, but I wouldn't be against it if it did.

Oh, Gee!!
05-15-2014, 09:54 AM
fits the spurs m.o. tbh. they like to hire players during their twilight. wasn't shaq considering a move here at one point, or was that just a thread I read?

05-15-2014, 09:58 AM
He's only 37. That's to young for the spurs. Maybe in a couple of years when he's 39 and in his prime the spurs will be able get him... provided he's gotten over himself.

We don't have someone that can shoot a similar FG% to Russell Westbrook.

Has it really come to that? Is that all that Paul Pierce commands in salary these days? I had no interest in the Nets this year, but I didn't realize how far he must have slipped.

No. Huge difference.

I understand he only has one championship, but Pierce is a HOFer and a proven winner. He has made many clutch shots during his career. He can get to free throw lines and can make 3-pt shots as well. And he defended LeBron and KB well during their deep playoff-run years.

let...I don't think we need another HOFer on this team. Actually, I don't think we need anything that messes with the Chemistry of this team.

We just saw one of the best basketball exhibitions I've ever seen in the NBA. We don't need anything "right now." Seriously. Especially another "HOFer." If you want to bring in anyone...bring someone young for the future.

Maybe as a last resort. And I don't think Pierce wants to be anyone's backup. He might be Clippers bound to join Rivers.

Spurs should continue their youth movement. Adding aging veterans should only be a last resort or an addition that would clearly help the Spurs.

06-16-2014, 12:58 PM
No old former superstars please. Better to spend money on guys like Diaw, Mills and that sort, guys who never got a chance to shine.

Yea. I prefer the Spurs draft a ready-to-contribute player in the draft instead of taking another oversea prospect and keeping him for 2-3 years.

Because they never seems to come over. Look at Luis Scola and I believe Tiago was the last oversea prospect to come over and it was in 2010.
