I never wish injury on a player, but Ibaka has been a cheap shotting punk this playoffs and season and deserves this.
Looking at the replay it looks like he ruptured the calf muscle. He more than likely is done for the next series. You know an injury is bad when you are noticeably limping off the court when your body is full of adrenaline.

Not that I want them to face a full-strength OKC, but I disdain people wishing for severe injuries like that. I'd never root for an injury like that on a guy as good as Durant. It's just sports, all in all.
Being at ease with an injury (like Ibaka, but I doubt he misses much time) versus celebrating is way different in my eyes, certainly I wouldn't like the moral character of someone who would choose for another to get injured, I question their priorities in life if it comes down to that.

I think he rupture the calf muscle. What makes me think that is the case is that Paul kneed him in the calf as soon as Ibaka put all his weight on his leg. This is how most sport injury occur, getting hit in a particular spot (knee, elbow, arm, chest, leg, etc) when its the most tensed. In most cases a torn ligament or rupture muscle occurs.
With a rupture muscle, you can still walk, but the boot is to stabilize the leg obviously. He if just strained the calf, he wouldn't need a boot.

Very few people on this board believe in conspiracy theories. 90% realize that OKC is a fraudulent team that too often gets propped up by the refs. The "conspiracy theory" portion comes with speculation as to why that happens.

OKC/Clippers game 6 was interesting because in the first half, I thought OKC got absolutely jobbed by the refs. There was a massive free throw disparity in favor of the Clippers, sure, but in some respect that actually doesn't matter at all. I just simply watched the game and counted the number of ticky tack fouls for or against both teams and that's the conclusion I came to.
Then, in the second half (mostly latter half of the 3rd quarter and into the 4th), there was a total reversal and the refs started favoring (slightly) OKC.

Refs favor the Clippers is in the first half so that viewers are left with the impression that the refs are making it up to the Clippers. Then, when it matters, the refs heavily favor OKC.

:rollin well, there's one
Honestly I think OKC's storied history of being propped up by the refs is a complicated case of multiple factors converging together. Part of it is probably reputation. Durant and Westbrook have always been awarded ticky tack fouls on wild, reckless drives towards the rim, and that's sort of set a precedent for the officials to go by. A lot of the OKC players are awarded free throws on flops by falling to the floor on long range jump shot attempts, and for whatever reason it's really difficult to tell that these are flops in real time.
The problem is that over the course of a game or a season, this adds up. They should probably add a WARP rating for the refs for OKC, tbh :lmao
ElNono
05-16-2014, 12:05 PM
The Clippers choked all on their own... Doc is first in line to admit that they stopped playing, turned it over, etc.
The Blazers was another team super-coddled by the refs, especially at home. As long as the Spurs keep playing their game and forget about what they cannot control (the refs), they should be fine.
You can't rig putting the ball in the basket. That's what the Spurs need to do.

I guess I worded my post poorly. Here's a better explanation of what I was getting at:
If we got news today that Durant was out for the playoffs, I'd be completely fine with it. I wouldn't wish a serious injury on him, and I'd feel bad for him if he suffered something like a torn ACL...but I wouldn't be sad/upset as a Spurs fan. I wouldn't be happy that he's injured, but I'd be happy that the Spurs' chances of advancing just got much better.

Dude, fuck *, a championship is a championship. As long as a team wins it legitimately, injuries don't matter. B/c unless you are a team like the Pistons were in the late 80's, purposely trying to injure opponents, injuries happen and are part of the game. Nothing the other team can do about it.

05-16-2014, 03:32 PM
Not against Spurs, tbh..Ibaka is probably the 2nd most valuable player against the Spurs, more than Westbrook IMO..
This is very true. Spurs can sag in the paint to guard against Westbrook's drives, and send doubles when Durant or Westbrook catch the ball. With Ibaka and his good jumper in the game, Spurs can only hope to play good 1 on 1 defense.
And on offense, no Ibaka means lots of Steven Adams (fouls), Perkins (their best on-ball post defender but that's it), and Collison (our bigs are smart enough to avoid committing offensive fouls against his flops).
If Ibaka misses any time or isn't 100%, that looks small but it's huge.
Malik Hairston
05-16-2014, 03:36 PM
Ibaka not only disrupts Parker's driving ability, but he also kills the interior passing of the Spurs' bigs, which is something they thrive in doing..
Offensively, his ability to stretch the floor obviously hurts the Spurs, as we have seen so many times, especially during the 2012 WCFs..
Splitter's ability to guard him helps, but it also hurts the offense and allows Ibaka to remain in the paint..they need Diaw to stretch the floor, but that harms the Spurs defensively..
If Ibaka is out or limited, it alters the entire gameplan..

Adams is a good bench big with minimal experience..he's nowhere near Ibaka as a player, not even in the same universe..
Ibaka does everything Bosh does for Miami, minus consistent 3-point shooting, but with added rim protection..the difference is name recognition/media bias..

So what about the Spurs having Manu (who was the Spurs best player in 2011 especially down the stretch) playing with broken arm in 2011. Do the Mavs get an * as well.
Dude, fuck *, a championship is a championship. As long as a team wins it legitimately, injuries don't matter. B/c unless you are a team like the Pistons were in the late 80's, purposely trying to injure opponents, injuries happen and are part of the game. Nothing the other team can do about it.
That broken arm is exaggerated. It couldn't have been all that bad when he scored 33 points in game 5.

Between this, the five day break between series and the four day break after game two, there's officially no longer an excuse to lose this series, unless Parker's injury slows him considerably.
They'll obviously counter by playing Durant a lot more at PF, with more three-point shooting surrounding him, which is normally bad news, but in this case it's an excellent trade off for the Spurs, who no longer have to worry about the Splitter/Diaw issues (as outlined by Harlem) in this match-up and can have their cake and eat it too, as far as playing with ideal spacing more frequently, while not having to give up anything defensively.
Specifically in terms of closing games, they no longer have to have Ginobili on Jackson; instead, Green can become the fifth closer and guard either him or Westbrook, Parker can take the other and Ginobili can hide on Butler or Fisher.

Hate to see anyone injured because I don't want the karma to come back and bite the Spurs in the butt with an injury. That said, this is great news for the Spurs. Early enough to get the news to game plan around the alternative lineups they will see.
OTOH, it would be pretty damn funny to see Ibaka in the starting lineup on Monday. "Our bad. We thought it was worse than it was.", says Brooks.

Wow. You never wish injury against an opposing player, but wow this helps the Spurs. Ibaka is a huge piece to OKC's puzzle, especially against the Spurs. Westbrook and Durant's penetration constantly opens up shots for Ibaka against the Spurs, which he is always capable of knocking down as well all know from the 12' West Finals. While Perkins and Collison are good post defenders, they're not the rim protectors that Ibaka is. And while Adams can provide some rim protection, he can't shoot for shit. Pretty good news for the Spurs today...
