there is no way in hell the spurs beat the thunder with the leauge's intentions of gettting them to the finals. not a chance. we'll see ginobli with 3 games straight without a turnover before the league lets them get beat this year. it's become comical. they aren't even hiding it anymore

Aside from the abhorrent calls in the final minute of Game 5, the fouls have turned out mostly even. Mostly. Paul and the Clips have had plenty to do with this loss on their own. The game changers have come on those trademark fast breaks where Westbrook and Durant are so damn athletic and skilled at avoiding an offensive foul. If the Spurs are going to win they have to take care of the ball and be prepared for those kinds of plays. Leaving their feet on perimeter shooters and collapsing sloppily in the paint will play right into OKC's hands for drawing contact. If the league really intends to put OKC through, they should at least be forced to do it in the most transparent way. Make the league pull those calls out of their assholes, at the very least the Spurs can make them embarrass themselves. Best case scenario, they play to those strengths well enough that they win the series.

I got faith! Kawhi ready for the big stage, and as long as the refs don't take him out, he'll guard Durant well. Green on Westbrook will help, and Splitter won't allow Ibaka to get open looks. Spurs can do this, though Parker's health will be key.

TP averaged 19.25 PPG on 40% shooting, 6 APG, and 3.25 turnovers once they put Thabo on him from Games 3-6 in '12 WCF. The first two games with Westbrook on him, he got 26 PPG on .615 shooting, 7 assists, but still 3.25 turnovers.

It seems to me that they usually beat us with intensity and physicality. Spurs players need to make quick decesive moves on offense, use Thunder's aggressiveness against them with some backdoor action and match them on the intensity level. And of course play with balls and the belief that they are the better team, which they are.

It should be a great series. The Thunder are gonna have to up their game from the first two rounds to hang with the Spurs tbh. San Antonio can replicate a lot of the defensive schemes that Memphis employed in the first round (maybe not the friendly whistles) + exploit the same areas that the Clippers did offensively.....

Then again, OKC always ups their game when the play the Spurs so it's a tough to call.

I have faith in the Spurs to pull out a very, very tough series tbh......

Russ
05-16-2014, 01:34 AM
The Spurs need an old fashioned hatchet man in this series to go after Westbrook.

Strangely enough, the only candidate I can think of is Patty Mills. Even stranger, I think he could do it.

kjhip1
05-16-2014, 01:36 AM
need to pack the paint when they drive...I would rather have westbrook chuck then drive. another problem i saw was the Clippers kept picking him up beyond half court and he drove right down putting the defense on its heels..I like what Kawhi and Splitter are doing this year in the POs...Our series will come down to bench production..Manu needs to be better with the ball and patty/belinelli need to shoot lights out..I dont see the Spurs making the same mistakes as the Clippers when it comes to less than 3-4 minutes of a game..with that said, this series goes 6 games, Spurs! I just think that winning game 6 on their court would be fulfilling

Westbrook and Durant are going to get theirs. It's going to be about limiting those other turds like Sefalosha, Jackson, Butler, Fisher, Adams, Ibaka, etc. And we have to take care of the ball. That team thrives off of turnovers. Gotta keep it clean and be efficient offensively and I think we can win it. Oh and not getting jewed by the refs too badly would be nice for once.

Remember last year you had a strain as bad as Ibaka's is this year and youcame back and played well for one game but then couldn't recover enough. How about recovering in full this time before coming back? We need you at full strength, man!!

I will take this opportunity to give my two cents about this series - especially about the Ibaka injury. Some here say they want to face OKC at full strength. Well, a few years ago I was of the same oppinion. I always wanted a healthy Spurs team to face the Lakers or OKC or whomever, and they should be healthy as well. But that was the case two years ago ... we know the results of the WCF against OKC. Last season Westbrook was out and that helped us to get to the Finals and nearly beat Miami with a hobbling Tony Parker. Does anybody really think this championship would have had less value because Westbrook did not play? I do not think so. The Spurs had success in the playoffs because of other teams injuries and the Spurs lost in the playoffs because they had their own injury problems. Serge Ibaka being out boosts our chances to advance to the Finals tremendously. His impact on the defensive side cannot be replicated by any other Thunder big. Nobody can guard the P&R and block shots as well as him. He is the reason why all these Tony Parker moves are not that successful against OKC. Thabo guards Parker well, but TP can get by him. But it takes too much time and therefore Ibaka is able to help to block or contest TPs shot. On the offensive side Ibaka spreads the floor even out to the three point line. Nick Collison made a three against the Clippers, but the Spurs will live with every jump shot Collison takes. Him and Adams are foul prone and the Spurs must take advantage there. Adams somehow is able to get into the heads of his opponents - well, the Spurs are not so easily rattled and so I hope his impact is minimal. So, from a competitive point of view the injury of Ibaka sucks and we should not celebrate about it, but we only have this and perhaps the next year left to win a championship. So I absolutely DO NOT CARE how the Spurs get there, as long as they do it the Spurs way. What the others do or have to bear cannot be controlled.

For the third time in as many years, the Spurs find themselves back in the Western Conference Finals...a feat none of us would have realistically predicted following the upset of 8. This is something that we should all take a moment to consider.

Led by three Hall of Fame players, one Hall of Fame coach, and a budding young superstar, this team has quieted critics, defied time, and kept pounding the rock. One day soon, this will all be different. #21 will be hanging in the rafters instead of hugging the ball before tip-off, and some upstart coach will be stomping the sidelines with the biggest shoes to fill professional sports has seen in quite some time. This is something else we should all take the time to appreciate while we still can.

This year, though, something is different. This isn't just about a title. This is about a legacy. Two monumental near-misses, including one of the biggest Finals heartbreaks of all time, fuels a fire that makes this squad hungrier than any other team in the NBA.

Tonight, the Spurs walk the first step towards facing down the nightmares of 2012 and 2013, and taking back what is rightfully theirs.

FTT.

I won't lie was rooting OKC until Serge went down. But my head said Spurs even before Ibaka went down ...
I thought Spurs would give Heat better match up but wanted to see Durant vs Lebron II.
I picked Spurs vs. HEAT AFTER the first full night of games this year and I have seen nothing to change my mind even after the heat lost last night.
Spurs in 6.

Side note: two things I miss about SA, the excitement In the city during a Finals run with buildings lit up etc. It reminds me of L.A. almost every May back in the glory days. Enjoy it Spur fans and good luck. (Also miss by old house and HEB)
