Cabrera isn't doing jack shit, they play no defense, they have only two reliable starters, and their bullpen is horrible.

Cabrera is playing on one leg and is on a tear right now. 5 homers in the last few games. Still batting over 300 on one leg (bum ankle) and still hasn't recovered fully from his off season core surgery.

Yeah he's had a hot week, but wasn't doing much when I posted it two weeks ago.

JamStone

Tigers have stunk it up this season. They have extremely underachieved.

Cabrera's health and power production have been an issue this season, but it's been far from the major problem why they have struggled to the point of being out of the playoff picture. Even before this hot week for Miggy, he was still hitting comfortably over .300 most of the season, had been on pace for well over 100 RBI all season, and has led the AL in doubles also for much of the season. The glaring regression has been his HR power. But you look at what Victor Martinez has done in terms of unexpected HR power, he's basically made up for what Miggy usually would provide in that department.

Even with a "down year" for Miggy, he hasn't been the big issue. Since the Royals started taking over the AL Central, a lot of the blame has been on the starting pitching with Verlander's implosion in many of his starts, the loss of Anibal Sanchez to injury, throwing out single A and double A minor league starting pitchers, and then the occasional disaster start from the other three starters of Scherzer, Porcello, and even Price. For the first couple months, Detroit's starting pitching was among the best in the AL. The ESPN night game last night, they said they're currently ranked 9th in the AL in ERA. For a rotation as heralded as they are with 3 CY winners, that's pretty much telling. Now obviously, the bullpen has been horrible and the offense seems extremely inconsistent, scoring 7+ runs one game then getting blanked the next. But that happens with all major league teams from time to time. It starts and ends with Detroit's starting pitching, the perceived strength and foundation on which the team was built.

Miggy hasn't been great as expected, particularly since the last few seasons we've come to expect .330, 35+ HR, 120+ RBI from him like it was written in stone before the season. But he's still on pace for something like .310, 25 HR, and 110 RBI. With how well Victor has hit this year, you would take that from your #3 hitter. But you can't have Verlander with a 4.80 ERA and David Price only pitching through 2 innings before getting pulled and throwing out guys who never pitched past double A starting in September in a division race. That's where the Tigers have fallen. Primary reason #1.

Don't forget:

-Brad Ausmus being a colossal failure
-Don Kelly STILL on the fucking roster.. and batted 6th last night.
-Refusing to call up James McCann & still playing Bryan fucking holaday against lefties
-Last year's albatross Doug Fister trade

If you guys beat Shields tomorrow then the division is yours. Which won't happen.

The division is ours regardless, KC also has to finish a game that was delayed and they are behind in the score.

AlexJones

:lol there's absolutely no way the Tigers don't come away with the division. I'm already looking forward to Baltimore

This team may be inconsistent as fuck but they always win the must-win games.

Nostradamus you are not

The offense blew too many chances that game. Can't leave that many runners on base and expect to win. But the Tigers pretty much wrapped up the division now. Three games up basically with a week left. Would take a huge collapse to blow it and that won't happen.

AlexJones
09-21-2014, 03:35 PM

Only way the Royals have a realistic shot at the division is to somehow when the suspended game against Cleveland which is highly unlikely.

Oh the nightmare of the end of the 2009 regular season and game 163... if there is another tiebreaker game, I may not even watch it. And I watch nearly every game.

Pelicans78
09-27-2014, 09:18 AM
Even if there is a tiebreaker game, the Royals are gonna have to go with their worst starter this month in Jason Vargas while the Tigers would have Verlander. Plus the game would be in Detroit so the Tigers would be heavy favorites.

Pelicans78
