Question - If the Spurs win the 05-06 title and both Rasho and Nazr play fair roles in getting it, should the Spurs try and re-sign Nazr and keep Rasho? Even if it means luxury tax? This is of course pending what Oberto can do or any other bigman they pick up.

No. The fact is that either Rasho either plays up to his contract or he is out either by trade or amnesty rule. Nazr I feel will be asking for too much money and Oberto will be the starting center the following season.

Well, after the 2005-06 season starts, Rasho will not leave San Antonio via the amnesty rule, since it only applies this summer. If you wish to use the amnesty rule on Rasho, you'd best let him go before November.

Unless something has happened that I'm not aware of, I actually think the Spurs will try to get something done with Nazr before camp.

My bad. I recalled reading that teams didn't have to make the amnesty moves until the season started, but with the volume of misinformation that has been pedaled this summer about the new CBA and its various facets, I guess I got confused.

I know, however, that amnesty isn't available after the coming season. If Rasho's leaving, it likely isn't by amnesty.

If the Spurs go 82-0 and 16-0 in the post season, there is still ZERO chance of both retaining Rasho and re-signing Nazr at market rate.
