NBA Submits Approval To Replace Belkin
11th August, 2005 - 3:54 pm

Press Release - The National Basketball Association announced today that, in response to a decision issued on August 9 in Massachusetts Superior Court, Commissioner David Stern has submitted an affidavit stating that he has given his approval to the replacement of Steven Belkin as the Governor of the Atlanta Hawks .

The request to replace Mr. Belkin with Michael Gearon, Jr. was made by a majority of the Board of Managers of the club.

In granting a preliminary injunction preventing Belkin’s removal, Judge Allan van Gestel concluded that a precondition of any removal was the approval of the NBA Commissioner.

There's no way Stern could have ruled otherwise.

Finally, finally this fiasco can be finished.

Finally, finally this fiasco can be finished.

The Suns just got worse. Figure they'll lose 10 more than last year. And if Nash gets hurt, well, they could be an eighth seed.

Yeah finally Boris Diaw can arrive.

As well as those draft picks AND trade exception. You should wait until the seaason starts before bashing the moves. Still a long way to go.

If both those draft picks are protected, then they likely won't mean much. Hopefully for the Suns' sake they can do something good with the trade exception.

Isn't the Atlanta pick only protected through the first three picks in '07 and unprotected in '08?

they're protected, but not fully protected. I think the Atlanta pick is top three next year and top 5 the next, and unprotected after that. With the pick from Boston, via LA, Boston gets to choose which is better - their own(Boston's) or LA's. So it could be a mid first rounder. I'm not 100% sure, but it's something along those lines, so the Suns have a chance to get some good players. Or they'll trade them for a rock like they've been doing lately ;-)

update - ATL's pick(one of the two) is lottery protected in 06, top three in 07, wide open in 08.

Will one of the basketball geniuses in the forum please explain the next step? Do the Hawks need to go back to the same judge to get a favorable ruling or is this action by Stern sufficient to complete the JJ trade?

I've heard reports, on more than one occasion, that those draft picks ATL sent to PHX WERE NOT lottery protected. If that's the case, their managment team is WAY STUPID. Anybody know for sure?

The first pick, the Hawks, is protected - Lottery in 06, top three in 07, wide open in 08.

The second pick from Boston via the Lakers is Bostons choice. Depending on which pick is better, Bostons or LA's. Whichever one they don't want will go to the Suns. I'm not sure if it's lottery protected and if so for how long. That pick is still sketchy.

The Suns could potentially have three picks in the 07 first round. But more likely two firsts in 07 and 08. On top of this they will still have the $5mil exception to find a center or PG. On top of that they have Diaw who can be used for a trade too. Certainly beats losing JoJo for nothing.

Hopefully Atlanta will be getting some decent bigs. '08 is the year Mayo and Walker will be in the draft.

Damn..If Atlanta totally tanks and you get the #1 in '08 you could get Oden or Mayo.

Sorry BillsCarnage but Oden is '07. Not going to happen short of Suns winning the lottery.

I'm sure a lot of Spurs fans thought that prior to the '97 draft.
