View Full Version : Thunder look decimated and feuding with KD n RW

You can tell the Thunder look lost....at the end of the half Westbrook was shouting at Durant.
Westbrook looked like he didnt care and just started chucking up shots, even in the press conference they seem to have no answer.
Westbrook to me is showing the selfish player that he is.....this is Durants team.
I think that "i have your back comment was all BS" in his MVP speech...clearly looks like some dislike.
Has anyone caught this?
why do u think westbrook doesn't care? i get the feeling too but why?

It's difficult to decipher their relationship. Later on, after Westbrook openly displayed his frustration with Durant, the two of them were sitting on the bench laughing and joking and carrying on when the game was well out of reach. I don't know, although KD is the more dominant player on the court, I think that RW is the more dominant in the relationship. Tell me, has KD ever openly, publicly dressed down RW like that when he's chucking stupid shots early in the clock during crucial moments?? I don't know if he has, but I think he would have every right to, given the abuse he takes for a mis que on defense, a common mistake even on great teams.

His MVP speech was great, but his comments about Russell were blatant lies. A classy guy like Durant should not be able to like Russells behavior.

They look exhausted and frustrated. In that state, you get a little snappy. Those two aren't used to carrying the defensive load. Pop pounding on them like a rock. Wave after wave. Screen after screen. People getting mad at him for subbing in Belli for Green...but Belli has fresh LEGS...Thunder have to keep up with all of the off the ball movement. Green gets some open looks later, sometimes, due to overall fatigue of the Thunder. They just dog tired and deflated.

Thunder looked like shit after getting beat by 30+, not surprising. That game is over though, and with things moving to OKC, we basically get a series reset. Spurs still have to bring it, don't expect OKC to back down an inch.

No one mentioned OKC backing down? Sometimes MMA fighters will keep fighting a lost cause, that's why there is rule for stoppage. To prevent them from killing themselves. There is no stoppage here. No inning run rule. Sometimes, if you are outmatched, you just plain get beat.
No, they looked this way after the buzzer at the half. Sure, after the game, too, but during. The fourth was scrub-time. So, all the exhaustion I am referring to occurs after 36 minutes of play. With our Durant defender on the bench. I may be wrong, but sort of expect this to continue. What will their energy levels look like after 48 minutes of play, or overtime? I believe we are seeing our bench really pay dividends not in points, but in calories burned.
We may still lose some games to them, but the above still seems to be a legit phenomenon.

There were 3 OKC assistants sitting in front of us at the game. The one right in front of me was marking good and bad plays by Thunder players. About half way through the 3rd quarter one of them closed his notebook, said, "Holy shit", got up and left. The other 2 closed their notebooks and stopped taking notes. The looks on their faces was priceless.

It's at times like this that I recall the famous line from the Denver Post during the Nuggets series in 2005:
"The Spurs do not beat you so much as they grind you into tiny shards of psychological wreckage."
Yup...pretty much.

Who would have thought that 3 days of rest would benefit the Thunder more than the Spurs? If game 3 was tomorrow and game 4 Sunday, it could very well be a sweep.

I think it benefits both teams, but more so the Spurs b/c of Parker's injury. Plus Duncan needs the rest after the physical series he had with Lopez on the block.

If Leonard was created in a lab to be the perfect Spurs, Westbrook was too...just as his counterpart.
Was there a bigger Anti-Spur in the last 15 years of NBA ball? I'd even prefer Gilbert Arenas with a big bag of guns or Ricky Davis chasing trippledoubles while firing at the wrong basket.
Spurs wouldn't even sign him if he offered his services for the minimum. ("services" not meaning cleaning AT&T centers toilettes or fucking the ugly groupies to keep them away from Bellinelli...and even then)
With our Durant defender on the bench
After Kawhi’s second foul, the Spurs were outscored by 4 over the next 12 minutes of game time until he returned (coinciding with Durant returning to the game). It's imperative that he stay out of foul trouble at all costs for this series and next. His +23 in just 16 minutes equates to +70 over the course of a whole game. OKC's only chance is if Kawhi is off the floor for considerable stretches. A lot of his fouls are careless (push offs, bad reach ins) that he'll cut down on over time.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
We should just hope that Kawhi never guards Westbrook because if they come into contact the resulting matter/antimatter annihilation might destroy everything in a 50-mile radius.

I'd take Westbrook in a heartbeat. He's got a ton of talent, just needs a coach that could put a leash on him like Pop used to do with Parker in the early days.
The problem for the Thunder isn't any rift between their two best players, it's the growing gulf between those two best players and the rest of the roster; both in terms of talent and in terms of playing together. After two nights of single digits out of the rest of the starts I wouldn't be surprised to see KD and Russ combine for 55+ shots for the rest of the series. I'm amazed at how hard the media has shit on Thabo, Perkins and Collison (and they deserve blame, no doubt) while sending so little at Brooks. Especially because the Ibaka injury aside the story of this series boils down to "System vs. No System".

Its amazing to me how much better the Spurs have looked. Even with no Ibaka, the Thunder should be able to do so much better then they have. Its almost like they have already conceded the series. Pure speculation though. Spurs are coming out for blood on Sunday.

Yeah ibaka surely has an impact but certainly not this decisive. The spurs are peaking
Brooks has no system other than KD and Westbrooke iso-ball. Players like Thabo, Perkins and Collison should be able to score more than 5 points total. The Spurs have had equally offensively challenged/one-dimensional players (like Bowen, Oberto, Bonner) contribute. But the lack of system to involve the "others" will be this team's downfall. What surprises me is that Westbrooke in his interview said that they're gonna keep doing what they've been doing. How can one keep doing the same things and expect different results. The losses aren't close - they're overwhelming.

Same here.
except Westbrook could never work with Pop. Westbrook is clearly not over himself. Showing up KD at the end of the half in front of all the fans? It's like saying hey look everyone, it's KDs fault. The locker room is for real discussion when a half has ended.
Non issue. Point guard is supposed to be running the team. These guys play a hundred games to get here, then something like the Ibaka thing happens and it takes it's toll emotionally on everyone. Imagine working on a project all year, all day every day, away from home for extended periods, rehab and all that and you had to wait a year just to start.... but now your support goes down just when you're on the precipice of realizing your goal. It's going to take a toll, but a championship team can regroup and overcome it. Problem is the Thunder don't have a championship level coach, but RW and KD, if they are on, can make it interesting.

KD didn't strike me that way at all. Durant usually sounds a bit like Duncan at the podium and last night he was getting salty (by his mild mannered standards at least) with a reporter suggesting that the Thunder weren't moving the ball in the second half. WB kept that shit eating grin on the entire time but even that seemed a little strained at times. The thing that stood out to me was Scott Brooks coming back to "3 free throws in the last 3 quarters" a couple of times. Pretty sure he's banking on that trend reversing in OKC.

I'm not a fan of Westbrook, however his attacking mentality is their only hope. They aren't going to win by having KD shoot threes the entire series. He has to take a leadership position, regardless who the best player is. You see Manu do it all the time with other players.

He is not a leader, right now in his career anyways.
Not close to Manu in temperament.

I didn't watch the postgame interviews but from what I read on realgm, here etc...people were saying the same thing, that Durant was defensive and Westbrook was answering things with a cocky, nervous laughter. It's pretty obvious that Brooks is just relying on the refs as usual, figuring that is still their best lineup (8 vs 5).
I'm sure they'll get tons of bs calls and probably blow us out one of the games. As long as the Spurs can stay healthy as possible and pull off one win in OKC, I think the Spurs can end it possibly in 5.

The Thunder need a different gameplan entirely, from the top to bottom. They need Westbrook to act more like a PG and get a Harden-like scorer to be paired with KD if they ever want a chance to ring. A new coach might be helpful, too.
