...that Serge Ibaka has been awarded next year's DPOY.
This is the same way they covered the Lakers when Tim Duncan, David Robinson and Derek Anderson were injured, tbh.

The very famous Derek Alexander of Spurs lore.

when the league gives a team preferential treatment, it's always so obnoxious.

I agree. I'm still not convinced the Thunder won't make a small change in their lineup and win the series as the Spurs fail to adjust.

Derek Alexander was beasting for the Spurs. Too bad that scumbag Juwan Howard injured him.

Wouldn't make a difference. Joe Johnson missed the first two games of the 2005 Spurs/Suns series that the Spurs won in 5, and people still point to his injury as the difference maker.
Best not to worry about it. Just win.

A lot of people remember him based on the useless turd he became. He was still playing for a contract at the time he got injured and the Spurs were rolling.

I haven't heard Joe Johnson missing games references for years. It's already forgotten by most except the most bitter suns fans

Don't worry, if Ibaka returns Pop can always bring back David Robertson to counter.

Even then, the media will say "if only he played the first few games". If Ibaka returns, I bet he'll get away with so many moving screens and goaltending. The league is already acting like he cured cancer in the Congo like Sean Connery in Medicine Man.
Truth is, I think Spurs are the better team even with Ibaka, it's always been about the officiating with that team. The league shouldn't try to extend this too much because you are wearing down both teams and will make the Finals less climactic. And if Thunder were to advance, they'd still get buttfucked so badly by the Heat, especially with a hobbled Ibaka. I just want the Spurs to get through this as healthily as possible since Heat are playing in a JV league.

Same shit with Dirk getting injured in 2003. Shit happens. Would the Lakers have won in 2000 if Timmy hadn't gone down?

Ibaka said on his twitter he's out for the WCF, but maybe it is a smoke screen.
Still, a one legged Ibaka has to suck for OKC

The media is hell bent on painting the narrative that thunder have the Spurs number since that '12 series, and that somehow the third best player is the difference in 50 point spread.
But any fool knew that Anderson going down deprived the Spurs, who unlike thunder, had the best record in 2001.
DA was arguably the second best player on the 2001 Spurs but since LA waxed them the media discarded the injury.
You can't win with the media in San Antonio. Just the way it is.

Ibaka plays and Spurs blow them out again, Reggie & Ker will go on about how the ol' spearchucker shouldn't have come back soon and that a fully healthy Serge Ibaka would have made a difference

Unfortunately, Spurs decide to stop showing up and everyone thinks it's because Ubaka owns them. Then we can all enjoy watching Mister Unreliable and the Big Undermental in the finals.
