San Antonio one of America's favorite dream cities to live

A new Harris Poll shows that San Antonio is one of the top 15 cities where most Americans would like to live.

The city, perhaps most famous for the Alamo, the River Walk and the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, ranked 14th on the list, beating out Nashville at No. 15.

Harris Interactive Inc. (NASDAQ: HPOL), a global research firm based in Rochester, N.Y., conducted an online survey of 2,339 U.S. adults asking them that if they could live in any city in America other than their own, where would they choose.

Most Americans wanted to live in the Big Apple, with New York coming in first for the sixth consecutive year. New York was followed by San Diego; Las Vegas; San Francisco; Seattle; Chicago; Denver; Honolulu; Atlanta; Portland, Ore.; Boston; Los Angeles; and Phoenix.

Texas was eighth on the list of the most popular states in which people would like to live.

Harris conducted the online survey between July 12 and July 18. The company took into account figures for age, sex, race, education, region and household income in making the list.

That`s a nice thing to hear, especially as I weigh costs/benefits of setting up a master franchise of my company in either San Antonio or Austin.

If I was going to move anywhere (regardless of the cost of living, or where the Spurs are ), it would be San Diego. No doubt about it.

I've thought for awhile that San Antonio needed an entertainment district away from the River walk which has too many sound restrictions and other physical limitations, like parking. St Mary's street is pretty dead most nights. Now I also think the city ought to help fund the revitalization of the Aztec (yes, I know it's being privately revitalized), Texas, and other decrepit theaters downtown and filling them with trademark shows like Vegas has with Wayne Newton, Ki, O, Danny Gaines, and Sig and Roy. Why the Arneson is not used more is beyond me. How about family movie nights? Community acts?

Downtown SA is a gem, but the city needs to give people, especially families, more than great shopping, nice hotels, the Alamo and the River Walk to keep them coming back.

So you know almost all 2 million of the people who live in SA?

Could you explain why Broadway San Antonio at the magic theater always sells out their shows.

Quit being so damn ignorant.

Because there are so few of them. When you flood the market (especially this market) with too much of the same thing everyone will suffer. It's not ignorance, its the truth.

You really think San Antonio, which has trouble keeping the symphony running, will find people with the money to pay the entertainers, pay the marketing costs, and run the theaters? Doubtful.

In the next 7 MONTHS there are only 10 shows coming to the Majestic.

I guess theWriter forgot how we almost closed Sunken Gardens because the city could not afford it.

We do have Verison Wireless, Sunset Station, and even FarWest/Cowboys that have been added to the city in the last ~5 years.

I guess theWriter forgot how we almost closed Sunken Gardens because the city could not afford it.

Sunken Gardens almost closed because the city didn't have the money to keep the maintence up to date.

It wasn't almost closed because of low attendance.

Look at the Japanese Tea Garden's at Brack. They've been in the shitter for a few years now with many complaining about putting water back into the wells and ponds and returning the Garden back to it's prime.

The city just didn't have the money in the budget to keep it going.

Now both the Sunken Garden and the Japanese Tea Garden's are being funded privately. It has nothing to do with lack of interest or supprt. Just two city runned places that couldn't get money from the budget.

The rest of your post I couldn't understand.

uh, Vegas can keep cheesy acts Newton and Sig & Roy.

I was just using those shows and how they come to be identified with the city as an example. SA would focus more on Country/Popular/Tejano Music along with popular touring acts and broadway and off-Braodway shows. Branson Missouri has shown that tourists can fund something like this, but it takes a substantial initial investment by the city. I think more locals would also gravitate downtown for these kinds of shows and that would be the lead to more malls, bar, and restaurant openings and tax relief for you and me.

I wish SA would attract more country music acts in April and May nad NOvember and December.

Sucks that they always show up from June through September.
