View Full Version : "This Thunder team is basically the '07 Nuggets Team"

Jeff MacDonald tweeted that a few days ago and I thought it was surprisingly great analogy, especially without Ibaka playing the 1st two games.

with Melo as Durant

Iverson as Westbrook

J.R Smith as Reggie Jackson

Camby as Ibaka

That team had a better supporting cast with Blake, Nene, Kleiza, Andre Miller and Reggie Evans (K-Mart was out for the year that season)

granted this team finished 45-32 and lost in the 1st round to the Spurs 4-1 (hopefully with the Spurs winning this one as well)

Iverson was on the decline (25 ppg at 31) Melo was a bit of a ball stopper but posted 29 ppg

That team was also hit hard by injuries (or suspension in Melo and Smiths case) with Boykins, Martin, Melo, Miller and Smith all missing at least 17 games.

He actually mentioned that take away Harden and Ibaka it was essentially the same team. Its pretty accurate.

Lol. Durant is about 10 times the player Melo is.

Agree. That said, Melo really stepped it up this year despite the rest of his team totally falling apart around him. Played a little D (much better suited at the 4) and even rebounded. Maybe he's finally developing in year 11.

The nuggets team with billups would beat this current OKC team 4-2

That team was solid, it's a shame they didn't stick around together longer. Hell the Nuggets two years ago were really pretty good too.

Anyway, I think it's a valid point but the Thunder are slightly better. However, we can't really compare teams from so long ago together, that's why I'm irked at the people bringing up the 2012 backdoor sweep when both teams are different enough to make this a unique situation.

Those nuggets didn't get 50 FTs a game though. Maybe they were better...

Westbrook was better than 2007 Iverson. And Ibaka is a better shooter than Camby. Really not that great a comparison.

To me the Thunder are more like the '77 Harlem Globetrotters with:

Russ Westbrook as Curly Neal

Kevin Durant as Meadowlark Lemon

Serge Ibaka as Geese Ausbie

09 nuggets = Billups, JR Smith, Melo, Nene, Kenyon Martin with Linus Kleiza on the bench, they reached WCF
that team would beat this mental midget OKC team

I can't believe those 45-win Nuggets made the playoffs as a 6 seed. In today's Western Conference, Dallas had to win 50 games just to get #8.

I think this Thunder team reminds me of the 2014 OKC team, tbh

This OKC team reminds me of a a group of guys out on their boat gone fishing.
