View Full Version : The offensive foul on Patty's 3

That has to be one of the worst calls in NBA history

dg7md
05-25-2014, 10:04 PM
It was, especially considering it cost us the game. Patty hits that three, shuts the crowd up, and helps momentum swing back to our favor.

Honestly, we had no business winning that game, but we almost stole it until the refs (yes, I will admit that) took it away when they took out that shot. It should have counted, no reason why it shouldn't have.

Seems fucked, but it's pretty valid. We were hanging in there pretty close, despite how careless we played and how often we bricked. Thunder should have been leading by 15 through most of the game. It was surprising how long we stayed in the game.

05-25-2014, 10:56 PM
I'm still trying to figure out what the refs saw to call that. Mills hit that 3 and it's most likely a timeout by OKC, instead Durant hits a 3 and the Spurs basically called it quit

It was a tough call, and obviously the wrong one considering the foul came after the shot had been released, but the Spurs did everything they could to lose this game. They didn't deserve to win with their complete lack of effort. The rebound discrepancy is indicative of how much more the Thunder wanted it tonight.

That has to change in Game 4...

The thing about this shot is if Patty was doing the "leg kick out" to draw a foul, he didn't fall, he didn't even break his rhythm.
If this were Durant or Westbrook shooting, they would have been down rolling around in the first row.

Regardless, of the subjectivity of the foul itself, a foul after the shot means the basket counts. That's a clear violation by the refs.

Where is the rule book? That may apply only on fouls off the ball not on a foul committed during the act of shooting the ball by the shooter.

Mills needlessly extended the foot beyond necessary. He already shot the ball and could have just come down without trying to cause additional contact which resulted in tripping Durant.

Read the rule book. I don't know if it should have counted or not, I don't have the rule book and neither do you on fouls committed while in the act of shooting the ball by the shooter.

In case you don't watch the Spurs play, that is Mills' natural 3 ball form. He follows through with his right leg going forward, if that was the correct call then Patty should just retire because he does it every time he puts up a catch-and-shoot 3. There was absolutely nothing even close to abnormal about that shot, and anyone who claims otherwise is either trolling or an idiot.

Read the rule book. If a player commits an offensive foul, his shot will not be counted even if he does it for 1 million times

I read the rule book.

1. Incidental Contact
The mere fact that contact occurs does not necessarily constitute a foul. Contact which is incidental to an effort by a player to play an opponent, reach a loose ball, or perform normal defensive or offensive movements, should not be consid-ered illegal. If, however, a player attempts to play an opponent from a position where he has no reasonable chance to perform without making contact with his opponent, the responsibility is on the player in this position. The hand is considered "part of the ball" when it is in contact with the ball. Therefore, contact on that hand by a defender while it is in contact with the ball is not illegal.

Reggie Miller says that motion is normal. Who's to say he's right or wrong? If that swaying motion of the foot after a 3 is "normal," then it's incidental contact.

All those 4-point plays are part of what led to this call being made. The league has probably come down on these refs saying there have been too many 4-point plays and telling them to look to see if maybe the contact is being caused by the offensive players.

Doesn't look like he was going out of his way to draw a foul. Many, many offensive players do more than that to draw a foul and they GET IT, they don't get a foul on themselves and their basket waived off. Durant was flying at him.

The best case scenario for Durant should have been a no call.

after kevin durant mvp speech, refs dont want him to cry again

that bitch cried all game long....it was pathetic. Durant acts entitled, like the refs are supposed to hand him everything, and if not, he goes off on these toddler tirades. He is a silly bitch. I used to like him, but not anymore. He doesn't earn anything. He is handed so much by the league, the media, the refs. That big pussy couldn't handle in an entire season, half the contact reggie miller had to fight through in a single game.

What is sad is Miller, Karl Malone, Durant, and Harden made their careers out of creating all the contact and drawing fouls....especially by kicking out a leg on jump shots. This time, Mills is doing his natural shot, and because it is the MVP who runs through his shooting motion and falls to the ground, it is an offensive foul? BULLSHIT. If anything, based on how the league has called it for years, it should have been a foul on Durant and a FT for Mills.

I was hoping that once Silver took over, the BS would stop...........I guess I was far too foolish. Fuck Stern, Fuck Silver, Fuck Refs, Fuck OKC, and Fuck Durant..............GO SPURS GO
