View Full Version : Adjustments: Should we start Manu yet; Diaw on KD?

I know Pop only does this when series are at the most important time, but I have to think well see at least one more game this series where he's inserted. If we go up 3-1 this series significantly shifts in our favor.. Do you think it's time to adjust to make such a move?
We also saw Diaw be very effective against LeBron in the playoffs.. His size gives them problems. I think putting Diaw on KD is good and Diaw can frustrate him. Plus it's not like Diaw rebounds well anyways. This would let Leonard guard Westbrook. He can match RW and give him problems due to size. Thoughts?

There is basically no time, IMO, where starting Manu over Danny makes sense.

It would probably be a small-ball line-up, where it is Duncan-Leonard-Gino-Green-TP

Then absolutely not.

Spurs can beat OKC with their current lineup. No need to shake things up. Tony just needs to play a little better without the turnovers and KL needs to be more aggressive. Splitter needs to focus on rebounding. The Spurs will be fine. Ibaka's value has been greatly inflated by one win. Spurs played like crap and were still in that game.

Better adjustment would be to not play Belineli. Just heavy minutes at the 2-3 for Kawhi, Green, and Manu.

I don't think Leonard has the lateral quickness to stay in front of westchuck. Danny Green did an admirable job last game, and probably has as good a chance at containing him as anyone on the Spurs roster.
I say the Spurs keep the rotation as is and play harder. They do that, and I don't see why they don't have a chance vs. the thunder tonight.

The only adjustment I think we need to make is Green on Jackson and Parker on RW. Pop is stubborn though. What we saw last game is what we will see tonight.

KD really hasn't gone crazy with his shooting. The main issue for us in game 3 was the paint points dried up we were getting before. Need to be alot more agressive on fast breaks, drive to the paint more, stop the horrible passes and butterfingers to prevent turnovers. We need a defender on Westbrook who is going to frustrate him, like Leonard. When you upset Westbrook or get into his head he starts trying to play hero ball and stops passing. Leonard needs to attack like Westbrook attacks. Westbrook may be a mental midgets but at least he attacks the rim consistently, I will give him that. With the inside penetration consistent we have the 3 point line open up more. They need to play every minute in game 4 like its their last and not have any of those stretches where the keep the foot off the gas and let the Thunder go on some run.

Diaw is much better suited to guard Lebron than Durant. I don't think that's a matchup that would pay dividends plus I think Kawhi has done a solid job overall on KD.

If we want to induce more comparisons to the 2012 WCF, starting Manu makes sense, tbqh... :lol

Kawhi has generally shown that he is incapable of defending quick guards, tbqh. He's best suited on small forwards. Danny Green is our man of choice for small, quick guards.

You read my mind.
The Spurs'll be fine. Keep the defensive intensity and play smart. :flag:

Start Patty over Frenchie
Play Baynes every time Adams steps foot on the court
Rebound
Hit open shots
Guaranteed Pop is too stubborn to do the first two, so we need to become master rebounders and nail our open shots tonight if we want to win.

I think Boris needs to start instead of Diaw. The only time the Spurs' were successful offensively against OKC last game was when Diaw was in and Tiago was out. Spurs need to score and Splitter simply can't do so against the Perkins/Ibaka frontline.

Or Tim instead of Duncan? tbh

WOW. You probably tell your friends the first two and they think it's a good idea :lol

The only adjustment the Spurs have to make is to hit their open shots.
And maybe Splitter/ Diaw should show up against Ibaka and take away the mid ranger. Other than that.. they are fine. Just stay within the system and hopefully Parker is back to his normal self.

Hit the open shots, rebound, defend better.
16 of 46 on uncontested shots....

No adjustment needed. Just more energy and better execution.

In game 3 Tony had an ORtg of 64 and a DRtg of 117. He had as many turnovers as field goals and assists.
The only adjustment is to pull him for Patty and Cojo if he comes out THAT pussified in the first quarter.

The emasculation of Splitter in Game 3 is problematic. Hopefully it's not a trend. We can't afford NBA Finals Tiago.
I'd love to see a bounce back game from him tonight.

Kawhi, Danny, and Manu are fine of Durant. Diaw's struggling to check Butler.
The biggest potential change would be to switch PnRs involving Ibaka. Don't leave him open. A good thing about Serge being back is that they aren't screening with Duncan's man as much.
Spurs are still up 2-1 and so far all anybody has done is take care of business.

I'm shocked that there is so much support here for a matchup of Diaw on KD. KD would have a field day on Diaw, blowing by him and scoring at will on pull ups. Leonard gives Durant more problems than anyone in the NBA, except for Tony Allen of Memphis.

The reason Diaw is good on Lebron is because you want to turn Lebron into a jump shooter. Diaw is quick enough to give Lebron the jumpshot and stay with him if he tries to bulldoze the rim.
This will not work against KD.

Hell no, Tiago needs to wake up and play like a man and Tony needs to play smarter. What worried me about game 3, was it almost seemed as if at times Parker and Westbrook switched spots. Parker being a ballhog and taking bad shots, while Westbrook was deferring at times (but still took plenty of bad shots). That's almost a mirror image of 2012, when Parker dominated games 1 & 2, Westbrook was being his usual dumbself, then game 3 Westbrook played less dumb, then game 4 Parker played like Westbrook and Westbrook played like Parker. We need to frustrate Westbrook by keeping Green on him, Green needs to play extended minutes for his defense, and Parker needs to play as smart as possible and sometimes just defer to build team confidence.

We've got to neutralize Ibaka. Can't let him roam on defense.
