Derek Anderson, an unrestricted free agent after being released by the Portland Trail Blazers, was in Minneapolis on Thursday to meet with Timberwolves officials.

Anderson, cut loose under the NBA's new amnesty rules, will still be paid about $19 million over the next two years by the Blazers. Whatever salary he receives from his new team will be in addition to that.

The biggest question about Anderson, 31, is his health. He missed 66 games over the past two seasons because of back injuries. He has averaged 13.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game over his eight-year career.

Anderson's agent, Tony Dutt, told the Los Angeles Times that his client is seeking a team's full midlevel exception from the salary cap of $5 million. The Wolves have their full midlevel available, but it is believed that some of it has been offered to Eddie Griffin.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons are among the teams also interested in signing Anderson.

It would be a decent fit. You never know when Spree is going to be injured or thorw a fit. Plus DA would be another headcase and another contract for minny to squander trading.

Spursfor: Mix in a sports periodical once in a while.

Spree's a FA, they don't want him, he doesn't want to be there and even if they did they spent the money, except for 3 mill already.

Damn, he is making 9.5 mil/yr? Who in their right mind would pay that much? He was never worth that much to anybody. Talk about an over inflated contract. I would love to see mister Loyalty not get on another team.

We were pretty close to that amount when we were trying to resign him, before we did the sign and trade with portland. he was a hot commodity back then.

Wouldn't think Minnesota would feel comfortable mixing a D.A. with all the questionable characters they have on that team. Could lead to a lawsuit.

We'll see how much it takes DA to feed his children. Maybe he has fewer than Spree.

Match made in heaven. DA will be able to fill in all of the holes in their backcourt by providing the bitchiness of Sprewell with the frequent injuries of Sam Cassell.
