Okay i have been having an argument with at least 4 different groups of people and i would like to know everyones opinion on this matter.....who do you believe is the greater actor.....Denzil Washington or Tom Cruise. Myself i choose Denzil, he is by far a better actor than Tom Cruise....fucked up finger and all, he still plays the best roles and has awesome movies, Tom Cruise makes great movies too but his acting ability still doesnt seem to match up to that of Denzil......your input is gladly appreciated.

I don't know about Denzil Washington, but I think Denzel Washington is much better than Tom Cruise.

I saw one of his older movies, "For Queen And Country" the other night on Dish and was impressed.

Geez. You've got to be kidding me.

Have you seen Glory?

Tom Cruise plays one character: Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise is a very underrated actor. But I would still take Denzel.

This is a tuffy, but I would have to agree with Denzel, not taking away from Tom Cruise in a close second. I just think Denzel's roles have been more demanding. Most of Tom Cruise's roles are typical of his character. But just my opinion.

Oh Johnny Depp is the man but im saying between the two actors Denzel and Tom......Tom plays crappy charactors i have to admit his only movies that i liked were Jerry Maguire, Legend, and The Last Samaraui (however you spell it), Denzel has made plenty of great movies......Philidelphia, Glory, Man on Fire, Fallen, and thats just a few.

But Tom is a great entertainer who can act a little bit.

Cruise was awesome in Jerry Mcguire, Last Samarui, Collateral, and War of the Worlds. He has definately gotten much better with age.

I don't think there is any comparison. This is like asking who is better...Al Pacino or Pauly Shore.

Denzel IMO might be the best actor on the planet. He never fails to blow me away. Of all his great performances, I think his absolute best was in the movie "Hurricane". Outstanding.

Hey Pauly Shore was pretty good in the 90's, Jury Duty, Son in Law, Encino Man

Denzel.
If given a choice of two movies showing at the same time, with one of these two stars playing in each, I go with Washington. He plays on the emotions more, also.

Cruise is a male Julia Roberts. They play themselves very well, but they only play themselves.

Of course, Tom Cruise movies don't suck as bad as Julia Roberts movies.

Jet lee is a better actor than Tom Cruise. He always has that same style of acting...all his roles seem the same to me.

There's nothing wrong with having a good screen personality that you use in all of your movies. A lot of the great actors and actresses in the 30's-60's used to play pretty similar characters from film to film.

But if we're comparing, I usually go with whoever has shown more range.

you should do a poll.

and Will Smith has turned out to be a very talented actor (not in Denzel's league though...). His portrayal of Muhammed Ali was great. I am not in to boxing at all, but Ali and Hurricane both had me hooked... and that's mainly because of the fantastic performances by Will Smith and Denzel Washington.

The more I think of it, the more I think Tom Cruise is just a one-dimensional actor. But, obviously, you can get pretty far in hollywood on one dimension.

Very very true, i believe Will Smith has come a long way from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air...he is very very talented and very funny still......

You can't really compare the two. The only thing the books and movies have in common are the names

as much as i hate to admit it, i'll go with Cruise. born on the 4th of july, rainman, risky business, the outsiders, the list of GREAT movies he's done is long, not to mention all the other stuff that was just gravy.

But it would be like 1st and 1st-a with Denzel right on his ass.

Man on Fire, The boxer movie he did, i forgot, and although i have YET to see it, I have heard that Malcolm X rocks.

It was so stupid for him to get the award for training day though.

All the white hollywood contingent, was like "oh wow, he can play a gangsta nigga cop" too. Lets give him a trophy. He was so much more deserving for his other works. :tu

Not even close.

They are like black and white.

Denzel is way better and he deserved his Oscar for Training Day.

Cruise's greatest acting challenge is as a heterosexual.

Actually, I don't mind him that much, but he personally almost completly ruined A Few Good Men all by his lonesome. Even Demi Moore was good in that.

ShoogarBear
08-25-2005, 11:58 AM
Denzel should have won for Malcolm X. (Training Day was fun, but not really a demanding role.)

Al Pacino won that year for Scent of a Woman, which may be the worst piece of acting he's ever done.

Every time a great actor who's never won gets screwed out of an Oscar, he seems to end up screwing another great actor out of the award in another year by winning for a lesser role.

I agree. I thought Pacino and that movie were not very good at all. I have no idea how the academy makes these decisions. Denzel Washington should have won for Hurricane. He was phenomenal in that. I think they gave him the award for Training Day to make up for Hurricane.
