"Find a beautiful piece of art. If you fall in love with Van Gogh or Matisse or John Oliver Killens, or if you fall love with the music of Coltrane, the music of Aretha Franklin, or the music of Chopin - find some beautiful art and admire it, and realize that that was created by human beings just like you, no more human, no less." -Maya Angelou :cry

I wonder if Avante will show up and throw out a hundred obscure blues men that influenced the dearly departed.

I had the chance to meet her at a lecture she gave at USC and though she didn't have to, she stayed way past the last person departed talking to us students and it was like you were talking to a relative. She was open and listened and gave us tidbits of advice and was genuinely a great a person as her reputation was believed to be.

She was raped when she was 7 and literally didn't speak for 6 years....people thought she went full on retard....but when she finally spoke she had nothing but all this beautiful poetry coming out of her.....and fyi - a mob beat her rapist to death in the streets.... ok Avante

Wouldn't call her a rapper, per se, but she did have that collabo with Sisqo back in the day.

Decent piece.

That's pretty cool! She's the perfect example of someone who brought nothing but beauty into this world. RIP.
