If you had five Matt Bonners, you'd score zero points and be up by 30.

I still think he's got some value in this series. Wasn't making shots unfortunately but liked that Pop put him out there. If those shots start falling, watch out.

Matt Bonner's IQ is higher than 98% of the world population. He makes up for his physical limitations with his smarts.

I have never been a fan of him but surprisingly I could see the effect he had on the game today despite doing nothing. OKC has a enough fear of him that they are not willing to leave him wide open despite him sucking. This in return leads to great spacing and opportunities for other guys to score on the Spurs.

It's his spacing and underrated defense. He's surprisingly strong when people try to body him in the paint. He can hold his own, with his arms straight up, when taking contact from guys driving the lane. He's got that retard strength, tbh.

I'm fine with OKC running their offense through a hobbled Ibaka instead of Durant or Westbrook.

That move may be a little overrated. It's really the combination of playing at home plus feeling you've made the right adjustments.

he literally has to just stand there at the 3 pt line. ibaka has to honor it leaving wide open lanes and we exploited it long enough to neutralize him. bonner can hit a wide open 3 in game 6 i believe, if they decided 0-4 meant they could help off him with ibaka back in the paint. provided pop uses the same strategy.

but yeah, not saying red rocket saved the day or anything, but the shake up mightve been just what the spurs needed to get game 5.

I think you guys are underestimating Bonner's effectiveness this series, even if he's shooting like crap. I was the one who was bitching about Diaw to take all those open 3's he had, but he kept driving it to the basket only to get blocked. If Matt Bonner's on the floor, Ibaka knows better than to leave Bonner wide open. Ibaka did that the past 2 games with Diaw and knows he just simply doesn't feel comfortable taking the 3 even though he can. If Matt Bonner is as wide open as Diaw is throughout the series, you know he's going to let it fly. Both Brooks and Ibaka knows they can't afford to let Bonner do that.

If you want the starters to play with urgency and hustle, there's no better way to do that than to put Matt Bonner on the floor with them so they know they have to work twice as hard to cover for his deficiencies.

and he spreads the floor and whatever.

cd98
05-30-2014, 05:40 AM
Bonner had a bad game, but the mere threat of hitting threes like he did in Game 4 means OKC has to guard him. They can't leave him open and that's why it helped even though he essentially did nothing.

Anyone else notice that Bonner often seems to have his foot on the 3-point line when he shoots? I suppose we'll never know for sure, but I suspect a lot of those bricks were long 2s.

I really don't see the Bonner hate based on this game.

He has one defensive skill, which is that he can jump straight up. For whatever reason the other Spurs bigs apparently are required by the laws of the universe to bend forward when jumping, which leads to an easy foul for the benefit of whichever OKC player they are trying to guard.

He has one offensive skill, which is to nail 3-pointers, especially when left wide open. The fact that he didn't nail them this time is irrelevant. What's important is that OKC perceives him as a legit thread from downtown, and that whichever players is guarding won't sag off.

In this sense he's delivering.
