We got this. OKC was much tougher to get by than facing Miami. OKC was younger, taller, more athletic , shot blockers and had numbers.
After the big three Miami has nothing. Beasley, Ogden , Jones?, Hamilton?, Coles, Lewis.
Keep a man on Allen and Bosh at all times and let James get his and we will be Ok

The fact that you bring up Beasley, Oden, and Jone first shows how little you know about the Heat. Chalmers, Cole, Allen, Battier, Lewis, Birdman, can all contribute for the Heat. Ray Allen isn't the only one on their team that can hit shots.

On paper, the Heat are much less intimidating than OKC, especially in regards to matching up with the Spurs, obviously..

They are a much more organized team, though, with the best player in the world and a solid system, unlike OKC..

Still, everybody on ST knows how much I love Lebron and I've never doubted the Heat(even when they were 9-8, even when they were down 3-2 to Boston, etc), but I'd be very surprised if the Spurs lose this series..

Spurs are going to need some Kawhip in this series. LeBron on Parker really slowed down the offense in games 6/7, I don't see why the Heat wouldn't do it again. But if Kawhi can make Chalmers or Wade pay every single time, it could be the difference maker.

In 1984, the Celtics and Lakers did battle in that year's NBA Finals. The Celtics were 62-20 during the regular season while the Lakers were 54-28. The NBA welcomed a new commissioner in David Stern, replacing Larry O'Brien on April 1, 1984. The Finals that season was also the last time the Finals used the 2-2-1-1-1 format before going to the 2-3-2 format in 1985.

In 2014, the Spurs and Heat will do battle in this year's NBA Finals. The Spurs were 62-20 during the regular season and the Heat were 54-28. The NBA welcomed a new commissioner in Adam Silver on February 1, replacing David Stern. This Finals will be, for the first time since 1984, using the 2-2-1-1-1 format.

Did he? I don't remember all too well tbh, I sort of blurred that game from my memory. the only thing I remember from 6 were the final 2 minutes of regulation & how Duncan/Kawhi dominated throughout the game.

Still though, Kawhi's production will be huge as a 2nd/3rd punch on the perimeter. Same goes for Diaw attacking the post, something I don't recall him doing often in the first last year.

Prime Time
06-01-2014, 04:24 AM
Who guards Bosh? If I remember correctly, Duncan took him on last year. But I think Pop should keep Duncan in the paint to contest any inside shots, seeing how it worked well against OKC.

Splitter isn't very good at closing out, he's more of a one-on-one defensive player. Diaw is the more likeable option, but I doubt he's fast enough. Dare I say Bonner? :lmao

No, seriously, it's probably going to be Diaw.

------

On a side note, is anyone else getting really fucking nervous the more they think about this series? Bosh, Allen, Battier, Chalmers, Cole.. so many players that can just explode from downtown.

Diaw on Lebron stay home on everyone else. Lebron is a slashing PF at this point. He's shooting 37% of his shots from 0-3 feet and converting them at an absurd 81%. I don't have the numbers but I would guess that these aren't post ups but dribble drives. The Heat are basically spacing teams out with 4 shooters and either forcing teams to collapse the paint or letting Lebron drive 1on1 against Paul George, Paul Pierce, etc. Kawhi and Danny are excellent perimeter defenders but Lebron doesn't hurt you from the perimeter. Boris Diaw is perhaps the only true PF in the league capable of staying in front of Lebron on the perimeter. You can give him relatively open midrange jumpers but cut off his drives and make them go to their other options. I think this could really throw a wrench in Miami's absurdly efficient offense.

It's weird to say but IMO Boris will once again be the key to this series.

Tiago ability to play defense isn't the problem. The problem is he'll hurt the spacing on offense. Making it significantly more difficult to score in the paint.

Spurs are a better team this year than last, imo.

Even if Parker doesn't start the series (which he likely will), we have a better chance without him than we did last year.

- This year, Splitter is better than he was last year ( recent games against OKC notwhithstanding).

- Kawhi is far better than he was last year

- Diaw is immeasurably better than he was last year

- Mills is better than he was last year

- Manu has better judgement than he did last year.

- Pop will likely leave Duncan in during the last 30 seconds if it is a close game this year.

I know that the Heat is a harder foe than we have seen. They have the best bball player in the universe, they play good team basketball, they play smart defense…

…but I really like our chances this year. And if it is not to be - I'm still more proud of this Spurs team than anyone has ever been of any team in history.

Miami is the back to back champ, and they're the favorites here... I like our chances, and I hope Tony is allright, but let's not get it twisted...

I feel you but the Spurs are 3.5 favorites in Game 1 and have home court. There are plenty of folks that consider S.A. the favorite, Miami as favorite feels more like a casual fan take. Oh, that's right the Spurs Big 3 are done I keep forgetting! :lol

Anyone got the Vegas odds on winning the series?

he guarded Green for most of 6 and 7. Miami is going to stay at home on Green this time.

No, we were 12th in the league while they were ranked dead last in the regular season. For the playoffs, we are 5th beast while they are still ranked dead last

James, Duncan to settle score in NBA finals face off

Over the last 10 seasons, only one NBA player has been part of more wins than LeBron James (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/LeBron+James).

Tim Duncan is anticipating a different outcome in the NBA Finals this...

Tim Duncan explains why he believes the San Antonio Spurs are ready to face the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.

Tim Duncan explains why he believes the San Antonio Spurs are ready to face the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.

His name is Tim Duncan (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/Tim+Duncan).

Their numbers over that decade are incredibly similar. Duncan has appeared in 622 regular-season and playoff victories, James has played in 621. Duncan is shooting 50.2 percent from the field, James is shooting 50 percent. Duncan has won three championships over that stretch, James has two.

Plus, when facing each other in the NBA Finals (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/National+Basketball+Association), both has won one, lost one.

Here comes the tiebreaker – a Finals rematch that will have high expectations.

Miami (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/Miami+Heat) and San Antonio (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/San+Antonio+Spurs) are the league's last two teams standing for the second consecutive year, their next chapter starting on the Spurs' home floor Thursday night. The Heat won a wild series last season for their second straight championship, needing a frantic rally to avoid elimination in Game 6 and then riding the strength of a 37-point, 12-rebound effort from James to top the Spurs in Game 7.

"I think our guys, they actually grew from the loss last year," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/Gregg+Popovich) said. "I call it fortitude. I think they showed an unbelievable amount of fortitude. If I can compliment my own team humbly, to have that tough loss, especially the Game 6 and not have a pity party and come back this year and get back to the same position, I think that's fortitude."
It's the league's first Finals rematch since Chicago and Utah played in 1997 and 1998.

The teams have actually played three times since last season's classic series ended, twice in the regular season, another being a preseason meeting in Miami where the Spurs acknowledged that the pain of losing Game 7 on that floor was still real.

Then again, it's almost like they wanted to feel that hurt at times. Popovich showed the Spurs clips of Games 6 and 7 early in training camp this season, not so much to open old wounds but rather speed up the healing process.

"We were just trying to put it away, just get over that part of it, learn from it, and move forward from there," Duncan said.

Move forward, they did.

San Antonio won 62 games in the regular season, the best record in the league. One of those wins was a 24-point romp over Miami, on the same floor where this series will start on Thursday.

The Heat know what wanting revenge feels like. They lost the 2011 NBA Finals to Dallas (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/Dallas+Mavericks), then opened the following season on the Mavericks' floor and simply blew them away.
Heat forward Chris Bosh (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/Chris+Bosh) called it "extra motivation" for the Spurs.

"It's just something that we have to deal with, and we know that they're going to be very passionate, and they're going to play some good basketball," Bosh said. "So whoever we play, we just have to continue to keep our approach the same and play good basketball."

While the Spurs were punching their ticket by ousting Oklahoma City from the West finals on Saturday night, the Heat were getting a day off. James was taking his kids to see X-Men. James Jones went to a home-improvement store for some supplies. Bosh insisted he was going to do as little as possible, and Heat coach Erik Spoelstra isn't summoning his team to practice again until Monday.

By then, James will be locked in on the Spurs.

"It hasn't really hit us that much yet because I think we're in it," James said Friday night after Miami beat Indiana and clinched its fourth consecutive East championship. "I think it will once we're done and we're able to look back at what we were able to accomplish as players, as a franchise. I think that's when it will really hit us. We definitely don't take it for granted to be in this position."
So for the next few days, all the highlights of last year's finals will be played over and over again.

The shot by Tony Parker – who missed the second half of Saturday night's game with a left ankle injury – to win Game 1 in Miami for the Spurs. James' twirl-on-the-rim dunk as the Heat pulled away in Game 2. San Antonio sharpshooter Danny Green's Finals-record 3-point display. Bosh's rebound that led to Ray Allen's shot that saved Miami's season in Game 6. The yellow rope, the precursor to a Spurs celebration that never happened.

All made for an epic series.

The encore could be even better.

"Obviously we are very happy and pleased with the season we have had so far, but we are not by any means satisfied," Green said. "We know we have a lot of work to do against a very good team. There is a reason why they're back there and are two-time champs. We have our work cut out for us, but we are happy with going back – just not satisfied."

I've watched every Heat playoffs game this year and I can say while Wade seems to be healthy, they are not the same team they used to be. Yes they are the 2 times defending champs and they have the best player and the world along with cast full of shooters, but they do not play (or probably no longer can) that type of defense anymore. As of late, they play it in spurts where they need to make a run, but it usually last 3-4 mins a quarter. I don't know if it's the fact that they haven't really been challenged in the East, but I think if the Spurs can counter those spurts they'll have a good chance

To be fair, Miami doesn't need to play defense in the east.. the rim does that for them.

at first i thought the spurs would win this easily, now im not so sure. ive been watching the replays of miami against the pacers the two guys that kind of worry me are bosh and rashard lewis who could be an ex factor. they had hibbert befuddled trying to protect the rim and still get a hand up when bosh was stretching the floor. miami literally puts five 3pt shooters on the floor at a time sometimes. i wondering if it will force us to play small because miami plays small ball better than anyone.

spurraider21
06-02-2014, 03:33 AM
whats scary about LeBron instead of Durant is that when he's touching the ball, all 5 Heat players become instant threats to score. you will have Wade making savvy cuts at the right time, etc. its like magic with a more dominant scoring ability

I wasn't that confident in the series last year, tbh. This year, though, I think we got it. The way we're playing and how much drive I know these guys have for this, and with home court, I think we've got the best shot out of anybody to take out Miami, who are most definitely not unbeatable.

We just need to win the games at home, that's all, that's all we need to do. Maybe one on the road just to ensure it, but I can see this series shaping out like the OKC one where we lose all but one on the road.

If we found a way to beat OKC, then we can do this. OKC presents much more issues for us than Miami does.

PJ Carlesimo brought that up before the WCF. Miami had beaten Brooklyn and the Spurs were gearing up for OKC, and when asked to predict a series winner he immediately acknowledged the 4-0 season series in favor of the Thunder, mentioned that Miami had become the first team to break the series losing streak, and added "What are the odds of it happening twice in the same year?"

Agreed on most counts. Oklahoma City worried me more, on paper, than Miami does this season. The Spurs have also spent the last month honing their reflexes to tough playoff battles. They've endured a Danger Room gauntlet including the pesky defense of the Mavs, the versatility of the Trailblazers, and the pure athleticism of OKC (not to mention their raucous home arena which Miami won't be able to match). Meanwhile, the Heat have been resting on their laurels and have yet to face a legitimate test (let's be serious...there is no way Indiana was winning that series).

I just heard a little bit of SVP and Russilo on ESPN Radio and they had Windhorst on. He was asked what the players felt about what TD said and he said that Lebron told him he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed in TD saying that but that he's going to use it as extra motivation. You'd think TD said he wanted to fuck their mothers or something. I think Stephenson just made him extra-sensitive and deep down inside he knows the heat were hand-gifted the title last year.

I think that Tim will just use LeBron's comments as more (unneeded) fuel for his own fire. LeBron acts as though the fact that he is pissed or disappointed or whatever should be an intimidation factor (as in 'don't poke the bear'). Tim is, imo, so much stronger mentally than LeBron that I think he will just be even more committed to taking it to LeBron, just to show LeBron that he can't be intimidated.

http://www.nba.com/spurs/sites/spurs/files/imagecache/image_gallery_default/151006410_Nuggets_Spurs_EvansCE392_0.jpg

On Saturday night, the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder played a Game 6 for the ages. Going into hostile enemy territory where they had not won a game in over two seasons, playing with their most important player hobbled on the bench, facing a Game 7 which would have assuredly revived the “what if” whispers…Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili put the Spurs on their backs like they have done so many times before. It took a Ginobili turnaround-tres to get the Spurs to overtime, and a legendarily vintage Duncan performance to bring it home. One phenomenal defensive stop from Kawhi Leonard (who else?) and some garbage free throws later, and the Spurs vanquished the demons from Oklahoma City and now prepare for something that they have amazingly never before accomplished: their first return trip to the NBA Finals.

Last year, you could virtually feel the Spurs elation in making the Finals. Of course, it wasn't over-the-top or obnoxious in display (okay, maybe a little bit to non-Spur fans), but when the Spurs beat the Grizzlies, there was a small and much-deserved celebration on the court and in the locker room. As a fan, I shared in their joy at the time. A return to the Finals after a six-year absence is worth celebrating.

This year, though, something seems different. There was no celebration. There was no hooping and hollering and hugs at mid court. Instead there were the standard post-game high fives, and an awkward Western Conference Champions trophy presentation featuring players who seemed like they didn't really want to be there...like they have bigger things to be focused on.

It honestly reminded me of those 2005 and 2007 squads. They knew making the Finals just meant you still needed four more wins. They'd take care of business in the Western Conference Finals, walk off the court, and get ready for the next opponent.

Am I happy that the Spurs are back in the Finals? Of course. But happiness doesn’t properly describe the emotion I feel. There is an even bigger sense of satisfaction, even relief, in the fact that they've gotten themselves back to the precipice. They’ve earned their chance to avenge 6. And this time, they are not just happy to be there. They are on a mission.

Let the real season begin.

FTH.

Question guys? Only thing that worries me is in crutch time when Miami goes to their small line up (1.mario 2.wade 3.allen/James 4.james/battier/Lewis 5.bosh) how do the spurs match? With 4 shooters around James this spaces the floor and with duncan matched up with bosh on the perimeter there is no rim pretext or/rebounder. (1.parker 2. Green 3. Manu 4.kawahi/Diaw 5.TD/tiago) ...still,will be though to stop with no rim protection.

They'd likely go with Wade-Allen-Battier-James-Bosh and the Spurs would probably match with Parker-Manu/Green/ Leonard-Diaw-Duncan

Duncan would have to guard Bosh but the Spurs could have an advantage on the glass.

Dr. Jason Garrett of Airrosti Rehab Center (http://www.airrosti.com/get-to-know-us/management/jason-garrett/), who works directly with Parker, joined theMike Taylor Show (http://www.ticket760.com/media/podcast-the-mike-taylor-show-SportsTalkSA/mike-taylor-6042014-24854520/) Wednesday morning to discuss the situation with Tony’s ankle. Dr. Garrett stated that Tony aggravated his left ankle which he lighlty sprained in Game Four against the Oklahoma City Thunder. It was later discovered that Parker also had a bone bruise.

Cool but who is Dr. Garrett? Is he affiliated with the Spurs?
This was funny when I read it scrolling down. I was thinking the same thing, like is he a Dr. Feelgood type guy? Glad to know he's the real deal!!
I wonder if the HGHeat have their own pusher, I mean doctor, traveling with them and holding the bag, so to speak.

Sounds like it-

I think this is great news if they can reduce his pain enough for him to play.

I've had bone bruises before and they hurt about 1,00% more than a soft tissue bruise or a muscle sprain. Great news, hopefully!

Saw the interviews on NBA TV earlier. Pop, Tony, and Tim seem very focused. Gotta love it :tu
