I just finished my first play-thru of Wolfenstein: The New Order and wanted to share my thoughts.
Been a VERY long time since I have enjoyed an FPS single player game like Wolfenstein: The New Order. The last one I can remember having a story as engrossing as this, along with solid gameplay, is probably Prey. People will bitch about COD or what have you being better, but those never felt "original" to me.... The story in this new Wolfenstein is great IMHO. Character development is good from the start, however it seems that there is only one choice that really affects the story later on, and it is very early in the game... after that, there really isn't many choices (as far as characters go) that affect the outcome as far as I could tell.
As far as difficulty, I played it on "normal" or whatever the game calls it... there were a few points that I had trouble with but nothing absurd where I felt I had to lower the difficulty... in fact, aside from those troublesome spots I ran into, I feel like I could play this game again on it's highest difficulty setting for a real challenge and not be totally frustrated with it. Still, there are at least 3 or 4 spots in the story that seemed unnecessarily difficult to me but none of them were "boss" situations. There is enough variety in terms of gameplay to keep things very interesting (underwater piloting, Moon walking, driving, ect.) thru the entire story that I never felt bored.
The graphics are pretty good if you have the rig for it (PC).... The only time I experience a big frame rate drop was a scene about 1/4 of the way thru when I had to drive a car through a building and launch it out of a window.... The again, that may have just been my PC doing a backup at the time.
Really good game if you like Single Player FPS.... Highly recommended. The story could be a feature film IMHO.
