I was reading an article (http://www.poundingtherock.com/2014/6/2/5772660/nba-playoffs-finals-younger-athletic-spurs-win-5-over-heat) about how the Spurs are younger than the Heat this year, but they just added up the players age and divided to get the average (Spurs 28.3 and Heat 30.7). I thought that wasn't very accurate and made my own calculations based on minutes played during the playoffs. I also went to "Days Old" (DO) instead of years. I went to each team's website to get their birthdate from the roster. I used this website to convert it to days old. I added up each player's minutes per game to get a Team Minutes Per Game. I then took their DO
http://www.timeanddate.com/date/durationresult.html?m1=1&d1=17&y1=1982&m2=6&d2=5&y2=2014&ti=on

DO = Days Old
MPG = Minutes per game
TMPG = Team Minutes per game
Age Contribution

(MPG/TMPG)*DO = AC

Both teams are older than the article states, but the Heat are still legitimately 1.5 years older than the Spurs. Not too much commentary from me here, just curious and sharing my findings.

That is an interesting way to look at it, "age contribution". Though it doesn't extrapolate USG% to age, just minutes to age. Still I guess that's better than just averaging the age of the roster.

I'd like to see average age in terms of total basketball minutes played at the NBA level.
