Anyone hear the new album yet?

I've only listend to the cd twice and am quite disappointed in it. Sounds a bit too much like a cookie cutter band such as blink or green day to me. I plan to listen alot closer to the cd tonght with headphones but very doubtful I will change my mind about this one.

311 just isnt my type of music. i really like alternative, just not them

Just b/c 311 isnt your type of music doesnt mean anyone who likes them is gay. I dont like 311 but people can like whatever the hell they want...

That was a real childish thing to say..

Nope, haven't heard it. 311 is alright though. Some songs are good, some songs suck.

I've been waiting until tomorrow until it's all official and stuff. Anticipating the new 311 album every couple of years is something I really look forward to. It's on my mind a lot during the couple of weeks prior to the album release.

I heard the one radio friendly song on the radio a couple of times. Nothing about it was surprising.

The new album might be a bit pop heavy, but I look forward if there is something beneath the surface. The reason why a lot of people don't get 311 is because they don't look beyond the surface. There is always a ton of interesting stuff going on if you're willing to dig a little bit deeper.

That having been said, I can't imagine how the new album or any coming after it can touch Unity, Music, and Grassroots. Those three albums were raw and only semi-polished. They represent 311 at their best. I enjoy the albums released since then too, but 311 took a definite musical turn with the Blue Album (or, arguably, Transistor) that has formed the foundation of everything they've done since.

But I'm looking forward to the new album. You can't beat the message, and I'm sure that the music will contain some very interesting things that can be discovered only after listening to the music a lot and dissecting the contents.

Should be fun.

I always tried to dig their stuff but was never able to get into it. I don't really like the lead singers voice. I saw like 2 minutes of them in concert during the warped tour in '99 but decided to leave instead. They just don't sound good to me.

Soundsystem was good, hardly the best. I agree Grassroots however is where it was at. The subsequent cds after that were good until Don't Tread On Me. Who knows maybe it'll grow on me after some time.

Anyone going to see Henry Rollins in Oct?

311 is alright, but their cover of Long Song makes me laugh because I know it pisses Jess off.

I listened to it today for the first time. I don't like it so much, but I never like new 311 albums (or any albums for that matter) until I listen to them at least ten times.

First thoughts: it certainly doesn't rock as hard as most of the other albums do. There's a lot of straight ahead kind of stuff. I think it will end up being a pretty solid album, but it certainly doesn't include anything new and they didn't take any chances.

While you could argue that Music and Grassroots were truly original and groundbreaking, the new album is far from that. That's O.K. though. I'll need to listed to it some more. I think it will turn out to be solid.

Man, they have some crazy live shows though. There is a tremendous amount of energy in their live shows. An excellent time.

I think 311 will be one of those bands people will appreciate a ton once they're gone. Their early stuff was truly something special in its time. I'm not sure exactly what will survive and what won't at this point, but their music will stand the test of time.

The Brodel is the nazz.

It was when they released that song that I realized one of my favorite bands had officially jumped the shark.

Someone told me 311 means KKK. Three of the 11th letter of the alphabet.

Interesting.

no its the omaha police code for indecent exposure

if they really are white supremacists they do a shitty job of doing it

"Our lyrics make a strong stand against racism and a strong stand for positivity and unity. The name of our band originally comes from an Omaha police citation for indecent exposure. We thought it was funny at the time. Now our name simply means - five friends from Omaha making music. Music that stands for peace and unity"

311 is a police code.
