View Full Version : What to do when Lebron defends Tony?

Tony made some incredible shots against Lebron last year, but they were of the MVP-caliber, miracle variety(step-back fadeaway 3, game winning shot in game 1, etc)..the offense was mostly ineffective once Lebron switched to Parker..

That's not a knock on TP, he shouldn't be expected to dominate against Lebron, obviously..

Miami made the switch tonight, with a few minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, and the only subsequent points the Spurs scored(excluding Manu's garbage time 3 at the buzzer) was a Parker 3 off the catch when Lebron switched on the pick..

The Spurs have defended great perimeter players in the playoffs in past, like Kobe, Durant, Paul, etc, but all of those players would hide on defense, rather than defend the Spurs best players..what would you do when they make the Lebron on Parker switch in the 4th?..

Manu sometimes, move the ball, try to to exploit mismatches, post up Diaw more etc. It's all you really can do. We don't have many options because of our lack of shot creators after Tony.

TP making 3s is all you could ask... The problem is that we don't have any mismatch like Boris on Durant, there isn't an obvious go to matchup especially with the way they shut down our bigs this game...

Keep moving the damn ball instead of Tony trying to go 1 on 1 against him. They could also run a screen or a double screen to try and get him off of Parker. If all that fails, get Parker off the ball and let Manu handle the ball with Parker in motion...

Run the offense through Ginobili. Also, there should be a mismatch somewhere else on the court. Exploit that. If all else fails, go into Green mode.

Oh I don't know..

Maybe tell Parker to fucking explpoit the mismatches..

Just have Ginobili run the point too if Parker is his usual hero balling mode

Set a damn pick for parker when James switches off. They leave him on an island.

Parker usually needs space to operate on a mismatch, but LeBron switching off on Parker is not a mismatch.

:lol your homerism is growing by the second, there's no offense that can be defined as Green mode, there's only TP, Boris or Manu creating wide open shots for him...

we played good tonight. normally i'm critical of parker and ginobli, but those 4 straight freethrows fuked us and nothing more. . that's the main reason we lost. we would have been up by at least 6 at one point in the 4th forcing the heat to shoot 3's. we just can't keep it close with them late in the game. ginobli had a bad turnover at the end of the game but he's no way as bad as he was last year. we'll win game 3

Feed Leonard on the block. Either that or run the offense through Manu and Timmy and get Tony going on off-ball action.

Noooooo LOL. The hate towards Tony has blinded homers into thinking Green is Stephen Curry? I'm out

Yeah give the ball to Leonard so he can pass the ball back to Tony so he can waste another 10 seconds and take a retarded shot

how about they actually try setting a screen for manu, which has always been his bread and butter. when manu got the ball late, it was an iso. the one pick and roll they ran, he gave a good pass to Duncan who didn't see it coming

Drive and kick.

Drive & kick only works when players are forced to rotate
LBJ can shut down Parker w/o a help defender so everyone else just stays at home
Prolly should have Parker run James all around the court while running the offense thru Manu, Boris and TD

Every time Bron switches unto Parker, everyone else just stand there and watch. It's like they forget the whole playbook. How about running some double screens to free Parker, or go to the Post to either Leonard or Duncan

- Give it to Kawhi so he can pass it back
- Give it to Green so he can create on his own and airball a floater
- Give it to Timmy so he can struggle backing Bosh up and get doubled
- Give it to Manu aka throw it out of bounds

Manu dropped 19 tonight on 50% shooting.. baffles me why you're still talking shit about him when he could arguably be the MVP of the team this playoffs.. especially when you are in love with Kawhi who is playing like ass

manu only ended up with 3 turnovers, one of which is given to him even though it was tim's fault for not seeing the pass and having it clang off his hands...

2/7 from 3... He makes a couple shots in the 1st quarter and he falls in love with his shot. He can't be trusted to play make in the 4th against turnover experts like Miami

Allen was on Diaw. OKC Boris needs to come back and punish that matchup tbh.

When they have Bron on TP, that means either Allen/Wade is on Leonard/Diaw....

When Lebron is on Tony, the Spurs should take the ball out of his hands and let Manu run the point. Tony should basically become a decoy. They should run the loop every time down the floor, and just keep Parker moving so Lebron wears himself out chasing the smaller player. The Spurs have plenty of weapons, and they have proven they don't need Parker's offense to win anymore. Putting the ball into Parker's hands and having him attack the Heat's best defender is playing right into their hands. Better to keep James away from the ball, and tire him out a little as well.

I'm serious. You start reaching for other excuses when Manu completely chokes... Parker let Manu do whatever he wanted today, Spurs took an L.

This. Make Lebron go over and help. We just were unprepared tonight at the end. They broke down almost every one of our plays in the clutch. Credit to Spo.

Yup, they had us scattered offensively for much of the night. I thought our decision making as a whole was below average. And we don't have a LeBron to fall back to when our initial attack is stifled. The Spurs have a lot of tape to watch before Game 3 tbh.

I dont understand why Parker isn't running off screens constantly like he was against Portland?...that exhausted Matthews & Lillard, that could do the same to Bron...

More post ups in the 4th quarter with Duncan, diaw, and Leonard. Play manu at point and Parker off the ball running side to side through multiple screens so LeBron can spend a ton of energy. Don't be surprised to see Bonner start game 3 to open up the paint more.

Move and pass

Parker should pass the ball and run through some baseline screens to the opposite side. LeBron is a good defender, but I don't know if he can run with Parker for long without running out of gas hauling that 265 pounds around.

What happened to parkers transition game, is ibaka playing for the heat? 34 points in the paint is not what got the spurs this far. James attacked the rim without hesitation in the 2nd qtr while the spurs settled for jumpers. Pathetic display. tony needs to attack early and often, before james has a chance to get set defensively. tony scored some points tonight from the outside, but the spurs won't win this series if tony is a jumpshooter. Get to the rim or get to the fn bench.
