View Full Version : Guess which NBA player gets married every year?

If you guessed the amazingly submissive Mr. Christie, you are CORRECT, sir!

Wow. I wonder whose idea that is...

link to article (http://www.hifiny.com/020808_christie.html)

The Christies, who have been married for eight years and have three children, get married on July 8 each year, their anniversary. It is not a mere renewal of their wedding vows, but an actual wedding -- replete with friends, family, cake and a reception.

This year, they will be married on the foundation of their new, not-yet-completed home in Bellevue, Wash. Christie's agent, Bradley Marshall, who is also a minister, has married them the past two years.

"At first I thought this was a little bit much, but when you see the dividends it pays, you understand," Marshall said. "They invite other married couples to the wedding, and they're very encouraged by the whole process. It's very emotional."

I would get pretty tired of going to their wedding every year. If I was a married friend of theirs, I would kind of see it as maybe grandstanding, self centered, excessive, and certainly weird.

Doug Christie, boy has he lost it. I can see why Sacramento got rid of him. He's terrible and I hope the Mavericks go get him. So the ever so dynamic Brent Barry can go school him. That is how horrible he is.

Is he doing this for his tv show? What happened to the show anyway? No words can adequately do justice to how strange re-marrying is. One re-marriage is ok but every year. Come on.

I don't think it's too weird.

All the other crap they do is weird, but getting re-married is actually cool. LJ and I would probably do it if we were in their financial position. We are planning on doing something similar every five years. Don't worry, you haters aren't invited. :lol

Forget getting remarried just have a honeymoon every year. Thats were my wife and I wish we would have spent less money on wedding and much, much more on honeymoon. Wedding goes by way to fast you barely have enough time to enjoy yourself especially at first one. Take a longer honeymoon and make the wedding small and romantic.

Well renewing vows/getting remarried is about celebrating with your friends and family. Honeymooning is just for the couple. It's completely different things.

This wouldn't sound too weird if it weren't for the fact that his wife is a psycho in every other aspect of their relationship.

I used to really like Doug Christie (in large part because he jacked Rick Fox in the jaw like 5 years ago), but the more I find out the creepier things become.

You know, if Christie has some sort of player option/yearly contract renewal, guys would probably rethink this one and marriage in general.:lol

I agree...it's a nice idea. But as someone who's getting married in a week, I'm not sure I could tolerate the anxiety of planning it every year. Although maybe that would decrease if I did it every year. One would hope.

I wonder whether the people who objected are married, or have been married or in long term relationships.

That article also states that he 'signals' his wife up to 62 times a game. Either he has been doing it so often that he is doing it subconsciously or his mind is not focused on the game.

I have been married, and I think renewing vows is romantic and so on but don't think its for me. I would never judge a couple for doing so.

However, a full-on wedding is a thing of a different scale, and just personally I think too much to inflict on friends and family every year. A wedding is a time when the 2 most important people of the day have their moment; they don't need to be the center of attention for all their friends and family every year once a year, do they? If not, do a private ceremony.

However the hosts of this wonderful site wish to celebrate their union, mozeltov.

Just a thought; If everyone who could afford it did this, we average Joes would all be broke buying all the wedding presents, much less springing for the party every year.

Now, a honeymoon once a year sounds pretty sweet...

Well, I don't think the Christies expect their friends to give them presents every year. I just think of what they do as a anniversary party where they renew their vows. I don't think that their friends and family feel that it's "inflicted" on them or else they wouldn't go. I personally wouldn't mind if my sister, for example, had an anniversary party where she renewed her vows each year. I'd probably even give her a gift.

Mind you, I think Jackie Christie is a nut ... but not because of this. I just think her outrageous behavior of not letting him talk to women reporters, women waitresses, or any other women is a little beyond protective. But you know what? It works for them. So, who am I to judge.

They have matching tattoos on their hands that she designed...the same one that he signals her with. She signals him back, telling him to shoot, drive the lane, etc. He also has a tattoo of Jackie dressed up as an angel, complete with wings and a halo. There are some really funny articles out there I remember from when this subject came up last year on this forum.

I also think that when the team doesn't allow her on the bus she follows it and talks to Doug via cellphone the whole ride.

edit: here's the hand tattoo (and no, he doesn't have the words there)

IMO, it's more about making yourself the center of attention rather than celebrating with friends and family.

The getting married every year thing doesn't seem so bizarre...until I read the article. That's just plain dysfunctional. Does she carry his balls around in her purse, or do they have a special satin-lined box?

I wonder if he asks teams if she can travel with him on road trips before signing?

I don't think he could ever play for the Spurs - remember when Pop sent all the wives and girlfriends home after Game 4 in Detriot. I don't think Mrs. Jackie and Doug Christie would like that.

Kori Ellis
08-15-2005, 09:18 PM
Pop actually didn't send them home. He just sent the women to another hotel. Mrs. Barry didn't like it and came home.

maybe when one of them dies they will dig up the casket once a year and have another funeral.

do these dumbasses know what "vows" are? they dont expire. i understand renewing them if you are on some tough times after a while, but if you really need to publicly convince your wife/husband every 365 days that you love them, your relationship probably sucks.

i absolutely detest people that read gossip rags and care about celebrity relationships, but this one in particular always gets me excited. its just too sick to not be fun. plus, she's ugly. you have to hand it to her, ugly bitch finds a wealthy nba player and shock-collars him. kind of gives me hope with making anna kournikova my personal cock sock.

I too have some perverse fascination with this. It's just, I dunno, sick. That word just fits.

IF he winds up signing in Dallas, I'm going to a game in an orange prison jumpsuit handcuffed to my girlfriend, who'll wear a Christie jersey.

Nah, they'll probably deny entry to us, or Jackie will sneak up behind the GF with a taser, and I'll never see poker night again.
