View Full Version : Spurs: If the Spurs win the title, is the weakest title run of all-time?

I think so, which is why I won't put Jim's 5th on the same level as Kobe's. As many experts have mentioned, this is the weakest era in NBA history. And more importantly, Jim and the Spurs would not have gone through Kobe Bryant to win it, which strengthens any championship run 10 fold.

Who have the Spurs really played?

- An ancient Mavericks team that took them to 7.

- A depthless Blazers team still wet behind the ears.

- They were gifted two games in the WCF after Ibaka went down. When he returned, he was 20%, at best.

- And the cHeat, led by LeCramp, the biggest choking "superstar" of the modern era.

Now let me show you fatnecks what a grueling title run looks like:

Kobe Bryant went through that fuckin' bloody gauntlet with Paussy Gasol as his number 2. Just think about that for a second.

Jim's run will pale by comparison if the Spurs pull it off (which they won't anyway).

So chew on that like you chew on a baby Aspirin when you feel chest pains coming on.

If Spurs win it will be legendary, they went through OKC and Miami in the same year. What else do you want?

Mavs=long time rivals, top 2 coach
Blazers=owned us for years, and just came off beating a "stacked" HOU team
OKC=owned for years, elite team, had just beat the Clippers, had the MVP...yet we blew them out in 3/4 wins
MIA= b2b champs

Wasn't 2010 Title Run tougher than 2009?

That's the joke.

The Spurs have been absolutely dominant since the start of that 19 game win streak. We coasted after locking up the #1 seed, and it leaked into the POs, but they came back to in game 7 of the Mavs series. What's the average margin of victory? Like 18 or something?

Good troll OP. :lol

But in all seriousness, I think this is the most impressive title run since the 2003 and 2004 championships for the Spurs and Pistons. As Spursfan313 pointed out, the Spurs went through a bitter rival team which is the last team to win besides Miami, beat what might be a team with a very bright future in the Blazers who just beat another great team with a bright future, then beat the mega hyped Thunder who had the league's MVP on it, and are now beating the b2b champs with the 3 MVP before this season on it.

If the Spurs win, it will be very sweet for long time Spurs fans.

Still went through the Shaq/Kobe Lakers and a pretty good Trailblazers team.

Weakest Spurs run is '07.

'09 in the weakest title run in NBA history, though.

That '99 Blazers team was great, easily better than the '99 Lakers. The Spurs were just too damn good...still think the '99 Spurs dont get the love they deserve. Start 6-8, go 31-5 to end the regular season and top it off with a 15-2 record in the playoffs. Just legendary tbh.

if the Spurs win then our Mavs would be the 2nd best playoff team this season. We took the eventual champs to 7 games and gave them the toughest fight on their road to championship. If the spurs win the championship this year they should thank them Mavs for choking game 1 (blowing a 10pt lead something in the 4th quarter) because no team ever managed to come back from a 0-3 deficit.

i think after the spurs came back in game 1, they got lazy thinking "we can just turn it up in the 4th and beat Dallas." if dallas wins game 1, the spurs would have come out with a different fire in game 2 imho

Is this joke? Orlando May be the worst team to ever make the finals. And the rest of those teams sucked balls.

they swept the lakers and blazers on the way, the 2 teams to make the WCF the following year. its not necessarily newsworthy if a team's most difficult matchup doesn't come in the finals... the nba finals were basically decided in the WC playoffs from 1999-2003. in fact, in all spurs championships outside of 05, the toughest opponent came during the WC playoffs
