View Full Version : Spurs: Have all of the Spurs titles come in weak eras?
NBA Playoffs

99 short season, 03 Shaq hurt, 05 07 (two of the weakest years in basketball) now 14 where the real championship was won against a hobbled Ibaka?

If Spurs win, its like the Cinderella ending Lakers had by avenging the Suns losses and Celtics. No need to kick them right now, they're doing legendary things. HOWEVER, if they lose this series somehow, this has the exact opposite effect. It cements a legacy of epic choking like 0.4, 6, etc and gives the franchise a 'choker' history. I hope they beat Lebronze, its like a mini championship feel of happiness for me.

The Spurs haven't won the 2014 championship so let's not go labeling the era as "weak" just yet.

Not really. They are playing a weaker Heat team.

05 pistons were pretty stacked imho they beat the Lakers just the prior year, and would continue to make the ECF 2yrs in a row until 07 imho. Mid 2000s was the most stacked period of NBA since Jordan's retirement imho, with the legends like Duncan, KG, Dirk, Pierce, Kidd etc... all in their primes.

What are the other teams doing then, letting the Spurs win it all?

because the spurs do a really good job of making the other 29 teams look like shit in comparison

'05 Pistons were good, '03 and '07 deserve asterisks imo.

1998: Duncan's rookie year, Michael Jordan wins his last title
1999: No one hurt, title
2000: Duncan hurt, Shaq was at his peak
2001-2002: Shaq was too good here and Spurs were re-tooling their roster and core
2003: No one hurt, title
2004: Duncan hurt
2005: No one hurt, title
2006: No one really hurt, barely get eliminated
2007: No one hurt, title.
2008: Manu hurt, Bowen hurt
2009: Manu hurt, Tony hurt
2010: Manu hurt, Tony hurt, Duncan hurt
2011: Manu hurt
2012: Fixed games 3-6 vs OKC, over a dozen allowed goaltends by Ibaka plus many, many other very questionable calls in OKC's favor
2013: Manu hurt, Tony hurt, nearly beat LeBron's super team anyway
2014: Pretty much no one hurt and look what happens. Another title
Let's not pretend like Ibaka is a superstar (only missed 2 games AT San Antonio, aka we likely won regardless) or that LeBron missing a few minutes in a game that turned out to be a blowout, followed by two more blowout losses even with him, was making a big difference.
Spurs have been constantly dealing with injuries that derail and hamper seasons. More than every other team with title aspirations. If you're using it as an excuse, then it can Just as easily be used as an excuse to suggest the Duncan Spurs could have had the most titles since Russell's Celtics.
Playing the "what if" works more in SA's favor due to how often they've had to deal with injuries.
I said here many times that the Spurs capitalize on weak seasons better than any team in history. The solution to that is to not have a week season.

The NBA has never had a week season
Every title the Spurs has won was always deserved. Every opposing fan in this forum seems to generate this delusional and misguided rationale that the Spurs are this "weakly" are winning titles because the rest of the league is weak.
Rather, they should be epitomizing them for being the best and defeating the best. These type of threads have been posted countless times in variations of horseshit.
Why don't you apply this logic to the Heat. The have always gone through the TRULY weak eastern conference that is completely shitty from 6th seed down. They've dominated injured or mentally incapacitated teams to get to the title. Every season they play the West less than they play the east like everyone so their record becomes inflated. There more you can apply to the weaker Heat than the Spurs?
Rather, you should realize that you're making an excuse for other teams for renewing contracts of unmotivated players and retaining terrible, clueless management. How about criticizing those players for not playing to their full capabilities by conforming to a better system or even chiming in to improve their system so their teams/organizations can succeed rather then sit in the lap of their luxury like the settling half-assers they are. Simply you're making the excuse for the weak by calling the best the weak.
Isn't having superior basketball prowess causes the effect of making everyone else the inferior? Having the best winning percentage in all major sports.....and still labeled weak. What in the FLYING saucer of a FUCK do the Spurs have to do? Shoot and Dunk from the half court line? ASUS Christ.....

Since Jordan's 2nd retirement, Shaq and Ibaka are the only two players whose stature is so high that an injury to them would asterisk a championship.

They're facing the best player of his generation in his prime with a solid supporting cast... :lol Fuck off.

Good lord, you're one incredibly stupid little faggot aren't you? His rookie season is 1997-1998. Most of the season takes place in 1998. It ends in 1998. If someone says "1998 season", they are obviously referring to the 1997-1998 season.
Only an ignorant fuck like you could get that wrong.

As a team, which the OP is obviously a fan of somewhere.

Which would make the 1998 playoffs his rookie season, unless you mean he was drafted before the end of the 1997 season in which case it would be pretty amazing.

You cannot call out a troll attempt then respond to it. That's not how it's done around these parts.

:lol It's more satisfying if you do....because then you're simultaneously calling out the troll and discrediting what they said. Some trolls are semi-serious about what they say. There's a fine line between a pure troll and a stupid post around here.
