Dynasty? :wow
"They didn't just claim this championship; they tore it from Miami's lifeless fingers with three consecutive annihilations to punctuate the loudest, most heartfelt note of this dynasty. It's a dynasty that might not be over, one that may very well have more life left than the one in Miami that the Spurs just demolished."

Even J.A. Adande, while not using the word, puts the Spurs ahead of the early 2000s Lakers...
"They're the best NBA team since Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls in the 1990s. Yes, the Los Angeles Lakers have also won five championships in the time since Jordan finally dropped his shooting hand at the finish of the 1998 Finals. But the Spurs get the edge in continuity and longevity -- "the span," as Duncan kept calling it. The Spurs have made the playoffs for 17 consecutive years. They've won at least 50 regular-season games in every one of those years except 1999, when the lockout shortened the entire season to 50 games."

The Spurs aren't your typical dynasty. They may not have repeated, but the sustained success in the last 15 years is unheard of and will not be repeated in a long time.

Not only did JA bail on his Lakers, he took a bit of a parting shot...
"Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili outlasted the Shaq-Kobe Lakers, then reached two NBA Finals since the last time Kobe and Pau Gasol won a playoff game."

Exactly. Consider that in the last 15 years, 1/3 of the Titles belong to the Spurs. How is that not a dynasty? Especially considering that they've been in competition for them for the majority of that time.

In terms of sustained success, the Spurs have earned comparisons to the Bill Russell Celtic dynasty. Extremely rare achievement.

His completely arbitrary criterion for dynasties is that you have to repeat. You could have a team win literally every other year from 2000 to 2020 and that team wouldn't be a dynasty in Phil's eyes if they don't repeat.
