They could have 1 more ring if they stayed.

Anyway, anyone know how much is the salary of an assistant coach ?

Bud may regret the fact that if he had waited 1 more year, he could have had the Warriors or Thunder job:lol..

Those teams would be frightening with Bud as coach, especially the latter..

Why would anybody regret leaving an assistant position for a head coaching job? They want to make their mark in the NBA. Hiding under Pop's shadow won't do much for their careers in the long term.

That would have been truly horrible putting a real coach with that stacked roster. Or imagine Miami with Bud.

Atlanta ran great sets all year, I think they were last in the league in ISO plays, they tried to mimic the Spurs' system, but they only have like 3 talented players on the roster:lol(after Horford went out, too)..

The Thunder, Warriors and Rockets don't have a system(that will probably change this year with Golden State), they would all be scary as fuck with a coach like Bud..

Yeah. I don't think the Thunder job will be possible, somehow OKC is very stubborn in believing in Scott Brooks.

But all the other Western Conference teams' HC job could be easily available. You see Houston (Kevin McHale), Memphis (Jave something), GS (Mark Jackson) or even Portland (Terry Stott)

Doubt it, they are getting paid. Winning a ring as an assistant seems pretty hollow to me. It's like Austin Daye winning a ring.

It's good that they are getting quality experience as head coach. They are even getting experience in rebuilding. This will come in handy whenever Pop decides to retire. Maybe one of them will come back home.

Well, Nando didn't have a choice I guess.

But there are rumors that he did requested for a trade.

I think they're both in decent positions. Philly gets 2 lotto picks this year + I'd assume Brown has a long leash.

I would assume Bud has a lot of sway in the Hawks organization since Ferry is technically in charge. They were doing well before Horford went down.

Another question is that why Pop did not consider Avery Johnson as an assistant coach and maybe eventually be his successor.

I remember that in one of the recent press conference, Pop did say that he thinks Avery is even smarter than most of the current Head Coaches in the league now.

I think so. Anyone who had played (contributed) for the Championship team will get, even the couple of D-League players and Shannon Brown will get.

Because nobody wants to hear Avery marching around preaching like a drill Sargent. That shit wears everybody out.

Wouldn't make sense to give him one. I always thought they give rings to whoever was on the playoff roster.

Assistant coaches dream of being head coaches, not assistant coaches on championship teams. I'm sure they much prefer to be where they are at. They make more money and have more power. They want to coach a team to the title, not be sitting second or third chair.

I thought it was up to each team to decide who got a ring.

And re: Bud, I believe he will come back to SA whenever Pop leaves. He's just getting his head coaching stripes on a lowly franchise right now, one that is good enough for him to have decent players to coach.

From a comraderie, friend stand point I think they miss SA, but "REGRET" no way.

No. The team has wide latitude about who gets rings, but traded (or cut) players don't typically ring. So Daye would ring while Nando would not. Besides, Nando wanted to get traded.

You mean a team can choose to give the rings to more than 15 players?

Also, why wasn't Jones in the Spurs celebration??

Not sure about the more than 15 players rule, but for example Dallas apparently decided to give Beaubois a ring despite him being injured most of the championship year and not playing a single playoffs game.

Teams can distribute rings to a number of people in the organization beyond just the players--but I don't think they all get the same rings. And I don't think Damion James was really around for the playoff run. I think him being on the roster was more or a d-league rights related roster management than anything else.
