View Full Version : Any chance Hanga comes over next season?

Hanga is already 25 years old, which is how old Manu was when he started playing for us. How much longer can we wait for this guy? Is he for real or another De Culo in the making? Can he be used as trade bait for another role player or 2nd round pick to replace Bonner?

He isnt that good. He only played 1 season in good team. I think best for him is another season in team like Valencia

Ugh, crap. Ryan Richards hasn't really proven to be worth a damn, too from most accounts.

He's in the midst of a 3 1/2 year contract with Serbian team Partizan Belgrade that ends in 2015 and so I doubt PATFO wants to buy it out when they have to address their current team's players first. That, and Bertans still needs to bulk up. He makes Daye look like Da Admiral in terms of physique.

Hanga seems to have decent instincts, and I also appreciate his 1 steal/0.6bpg in 17 minutes.

I've only seen a handful of footage, but I'd at least like to see him in the SL team. That's all I ask, tbh. We got to see Richards.. And boy, did we get a scouting report.

:bang I had high hopes for him. What have you heard? I had hoped he would be moved to the d league to be developed instead of in Europe. Dude has so much potential if he ever figures out how to be a bb player instead of just an athlete.

lol Ryan Richards

IIRC, he was playing in one of the worst leagues in Europe last time I read about him.

Yeah, I've heard he has low bball IQ and is a nutcase who fights with his own teammates and coaches, and gets ejected from games. That's not the Spurs way so I doubt we ever see him as a Spur.

Every Spurs draftee following Scola has made a point to have manageable buyouts. Buyouts should have no bearing on whether a player comes here... only if he's actually ready or not.

The buyout is usually already established in the contract. The Spurs just have to pay whatever amount that is. And provided the buyout is less than $550k, it won't have to come out of the cap or an exception. Bringing Bertans over should be quick in painless if that's what the team wants.

As far as Bertan's physique goes, he's fine for now. He's not like Daye. Davis is/was at least pretty athletic and plays more like a taller two-guard than a skinny stretch-four like Daye. As Bertans gets more used to the NBA and playing the three in the big league, he'll need to bulk up. But he'll be fine for a 22-year-old.

Wouldn't he be better off trying to bulk up now than in the NBA though, so he can get more comfortable with that weight to make for a smoother transition? But I'm fine with his current progress for the most part.

No. He's already good enough and should acclimate while also putting on weight if need be. I'd much rather redshirt Davis and have him spend the whole year in Austin, bulking up if need be while learning the Spurs system and getting used to life in the US. Sprinkle in some occasional call-ups to the Spurs, and that would make for a much more polished 2015 Bertans than leaving him in Europe and hoping he doesn't get caught up in another brawl.

Hanga is a scrub, he's never coming over... And why do people keep talk about trading pieces with zero or negative value...

I dont know Richards future after playing in Poland, but TBL isnt one of the worst league. But 'playing' is probably overstatement. He sucked big time.

Gonna say no. Davis is a better prospect, would prefer the Parsons contract for him(long term low money out of the MLE)

He's been pretty awful this year, especially given the strength of competition.

I think most of us have placed Ryan Richards in the same category as Viktor Sanikidze and Karaulov.

Nah, that's not fair. Richards is more in the Jack McClinton category. He's not a prospect for whom the stars never aligned. He's a guy who's pissing away tremendous talent.

Let's all be glad that we have more talent stashed away in Europe than the Knicks or Nets will be drafting at all over the next several years. Having two guys in the pipeline who will likely contribute (Livio and Davis) as well as other flyers helps when you're drafting late each year. A few other teams have caught on and used Europe to develop guys so they can come over on rookie deals more polished vs. having a guy up for a contract by the time he's developed, while filling the gaps with more than serviceable vets / overlooked guys. Kudos to front office for keeping the roster deep enough to be able to take flyers on Euros.

Fair enough. My point was simply that nobody really considers him a legitimate possible signing anymore. Hes still listed as an asset - but nobody really care.

Javtokas is the ultimate who knows. If he doesn't get into that motorcycle wreck he may have come here and left but who knows.

What about DeShaun Thomas? Any chance he is on the team next season?

Damn we forgot about Thomas from what I remember he had a pretty good summer league Great shooter just slow footed.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After being selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of last summer’s NBA draft Bishop Luers graduate Deshaun Thomas spent his first professional season overseas, suiting up for JSF Nanterre just outside of Paris.
Thomas led Nanterre in scoring at 12 points per game and helped guide the franchise to its first French Cup championship. Scored 12 pts with 12 rebounds in game
Spurs assistant general manager Scott Layden made multiple trips to Europe to see Thomas play and was impressed with the defensive improvement he saw.
The Spurs hold Thomas’ right through this summer’s draft. Thomas is expecting to play for the Spurs summer league team – the team he led in scoring last summer at 12.4 points a game.

I'm curious what level of 'defensive improvement' Mr.Layden is talking about here. Thomas+defense=a very solid prospect, and this is a Spurs assistant we're talking about.. Even though I had no idea there was a such thing as an "Assistant GM"

I don't think there's ever a chance he'll play for the Spurs. There is quite literally NO position he can defend.
