There is this misconception that Alabama is a running back U, nope, not even close. They went decades without any stud backs, (other than Shaun Alexander) It 's just been in the last decade that they "finally" started showing up in Tuscaloosa with Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy and now T.J Yelton. But....it's the soph Derrick Henry who might be better than all of them. He;s another speed/with size guy that the Crimson Tide recruit, they stay away from scat back types (Sproles, Johnson, Charles) They want guys who pack a wallop and some wiggle. That's Derrick Henry.

Auburn is running back U when it comes to the SEC.

James Brooks
Ronnie Brown
Joe Cribbs
Bo Jackson
Stephen Davis
William Andrews
Cadillac Williams
Rudi Johnson

Penn State, USC, Miami, Syracuse other running back U's.

do you really believe the BS you type?

No school comes close to USC

Mike Garrett
OJ Simpson
Charles White
Marcus Allen
Reggie Bush

That is just their Heisman winners

Outside of those guys you have past greats like Frank Gifford, Joe Arnett, and guys like Lindale White, Ricky Bell, Anthony Davis, Joel McKnight, and Justin Fargus.

And even if you are talking about recent success at that position, Auburn is still sitting behind teams like Texas who had a damn good run with Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, jamal Charles, and Charles Ogbonnaya to name a few.

If Gurly wouldn't have been injured, the Gurley/Nick Chubb combo would have been the best in the NCAA, since that didn't happen it's now the T.J.Yeldon/Derrick Henry duo. Not really a thunder n' lightnin' duo, Yeldon a load himself.

I like Yeldon, he doesn't waste anything, always heading up field and quickly. Henry more of a slasher with power and more speed than it appears.

Jim Brown was the first of the big fast power backs.

Nobody thinks Emmitt Smith was better than Barry Sanders, many many times Emmitt was 5 yards down the field before he met a defender. He had a great QB, HOF receiver and a monster O line. Sanders had none of that.

Derrick Henry is by far a better back than Ogilvie all things being equal. Yes I saw Ogilvie play many times.

The bottom line when it comes to backs is their abilty, not team success or lack of it. According to you Trent Dilfer was better than Dan Marino, Dilfer winning his SB while Marino lost his.

Would you rather have the Major or Henry?

Henry hasn't shown me much. He's late into the hole thereafter can't maximize the excellent work of the offensive line.

The guy hasn't shown much? How about averaging over 6 yards a carry so far?

The guy is 6-3 240 pounds and runs a 4.5 40. What are you looking at?

...His tardiness in hitting the hole. He's leaving multiple yards on the field. That has put us in danger of losing several games.

The ability of any running back has zero to do with how successful his team is/isn't. The two greatest running backs from a "wow, did I really see that? were Gale Sayers and Barry Sanders neither ever played on a great team.

Now look at all the success the Patriots have had, who were their great running backs?

Avante
12-16-2014, 03:30 PM
Jerome Bettis, Earl Campell, Jim Brown wore defenses down, now it's easier for everything else to work. Derrick Henry will be that kind of back next season, a guy who beats up a defense. By the middle of the third quarter a defense is bruised and battered, a big back does make a difference.

"The California Comet" Hal Davis passed up on the trials but that was due to his conditioning.

Not lying. Pretty sad you have to say that I am lying because you (a) don't know the answer and (b) were unable to find the answer.

Don't feel bad. It is a hard question. Only the best of the best, and maybe not even those folks could name that individual off the top of their head and would have to do some detailed research to even get it.

Once again thanks for playing and better luck next time.

Dude, I can talk Lon Myers and Bernie Wefers, ok? I go back to the 1800's with this stuff. There is nothing about the 40's and sprinting I'm not aware of. You are lying and we both know it.

You read something wrong and it's real obvious, that's why you have no answer to your question.

Derrick Henry is even better than I thought.

I can't believe they brought up his 11.1 HS 100m, that is SLOW~~~ I'm guessing he's a 4.55 40 cat, not a blazer but fast enought for a guy that size.

He reminds me a bit of Calvin Hill with that stride.

What he does is beat a D down. At first he's knocking out 3-4, then it's 4-6, then that ..BOOM!...60! Then that ..Boom..50.

Another big fast black running back, actualy bigger than Walker/Bo and Dupree, just not as fast.

Ok, the big back.

Pitt...Ironhead Heyward
Ohio State...Pete Johnson
Oklahoma...Marcus Dupree
Auburn...Bo Jackson
Oregon St...Steven Jackson
Texas...Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams
Notre Dame...Jerrome Bettis
North Carolina...Natrone Means
Georgia...Herschel Walker, Todd Gurley
Syracuse...Jim Brown, Larry Csonka, Jim Nance
Oregon...Lagarette Blount
USC...Sam "Bam" Cunningham
Kansas...John Riggins
Alabama...Eddie Lacy, Derrick Henry
LSU....Leonard Fournette
Azusa Pacific...Christian "Nigerian Nigthmare" Okoye
Villanova...Billy Joe
Purdue...Mike Alstott

So who needs to be there?

Dude is legit...Running for over 200+ yards against both LSU and Miss. St.

Call me impressed. Sitting there watching the game yesterday, and Gary Danielson said, "Miss. St. has done a good job containing Derrick Henry so far." I immediately said, "Don't fucking say that...now he's going to bust one."

5 seconds later....74 yard touchdown run. :pctoss

He is running against defenses getting blown back. I will question the Alabama back given the Olines they have. There is no question in my mind LF is a better RB. Henry is another straight line guy who eventually gets exposed in todays NFL. Calvin Hill was much more shifty, horrible comparison.

I concur. It's really hard to evaluate Alabama running backs.

If I'm a GM I'd rather let some other team burn a first round pick on Henry and instead take a late round flyer on a surprise back to back 1000 yard runner from a pass happy system like say....Deandre Washington

If you had you would have noted that his forte was the leap into the endzone from goaliine situations and for first downs. You would have known this if you were a fan. He was agile, he was a very good athlete. This is why he was a RB.

Starting RB's who return kickoffs, that's a rarity. I do see Christian McCaffery as more a third down, return kicks guy at the NFL level. He does have good speed for a white guy. I'd guess he could probably cook a....10.60...100m. He was a 10.75 guy in HS. To put that in perspective, Jamaal Charles was a 10.18 guy at Texas.

Would ya believe Jim Brown returned KO's his rookie season with Cleveland?

A few others...

Timmy Brown Eagles
Anthony Davis USC
Ollie Matson Cards
Gale Sayers Kansas/Bears
Paul Lowe Chargers
Abner Haynes North Texas/Chiefs
Herschel Walker Cowboys/Generals

Not sure I believe this one.

Story goes, that while in HS Marcus Dupree was running back so many KO'd for TD's the offense went to the coach to see if he could take Dupree off that duty so they could play, ha~~~~~~~

Getting back to McCaffery his grandfather was Dave Sime one of the fastest white Americans ever, a debate that he was the fastest is very real. Here he is in 1960 barely being edged out for the Olympic 100m gold medal by the great Armin Hary.

okay, your abilities as a list maker just took a hit.
But your abilities to go along with the boyz and rape continues to rise with pitiful rationale leading to denial.

***Updated with new information on 12/17/2013 to reflect actual amount wagered on Bears/Packers, courtesy of Spurraiders21***
***Updated with new information again on 12/22/2013 to reflect Avante's week 16 bet***

Since he refuses to do so, lets track all the money plays he's done on Spurstalk this year. Lets ignore all the other claims/story changes/goal post moves no one can prove/disprove, lets just stick to all of the games Avante has picked on this site saying he bet on them. Here's how it's gone:

Weeks 1-7:
He was 22-25 (:lmao) through 7 weeks picking games without mentioning how much money he bet, and after claiming he was 14-7 overall in the "$$$$" games he realized he needed to start actually showing how much he was betting to prove he's an NFL historian.

Week 8:

At that point he's 2-1 and up $90 overall (claiming he's 16-8). Then he decides to bet on the Seattle MNF and loses (we know he bet on this one because he voluntarily drops his record to 16-9 after this game):

Results for week 8: 2-2 and down $20 ($440 wager, $420 payout)
Results through week 8: 2-2, down $20 overall

Week 9 is when he starts trying to make it confusing to figure out what he bet. Here are the games he claims he played (though he posted an alternative set of games where he did even worse). He didn't specify a dollar amount so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he only bet $110 to win $100 on all 5 games:

Here's the post where he confirms he bet on these and adds a 5th game he bet on:

Then he ups his wager for the MNF GB -11 game:

Results for week 9: 1-4 and down $1,330 ($1540 wager, $210 payout)
Results through week 9: 3-6, down $1,350 overall

Week 10 is when Avante's behavior becomes truly eratic as he starts upping the ante:

Results for week 10: 2-2 and down $100 ($2200 wager, $2100 payout)
Results through week 10: 5-8, down $1,450 overall

Week 11 he starts randomly posting his picks (or pick in this case) in the club (don't ask me why):

Results for week 11: 0-1 and down $2200 ($2200 wager, $0 payout)
Results through week 11: 5-9, down $3,650 overall

Week 12 he did not pick any games.
Results for week 12: 0-0 and $0
Results through week 12: 5-9, down $3,650 overall

Week 13 he did not pick any games.
Results for week 13: 0-0 and $0
Results through week 13: 5-9, down $3,650 overall

Week 14 he starts posting his picks in the NFL forum again:

Then he adds this at the last minute because of how shitty these games turned out:

Results for week 14: 2-3 and up $410 ($2320 wager, $2730 payout)
Results through week 14: 7-12, down $3,240 overall

Week 15 he did not pick any games.
Results for week 15: 0-0 and $0
Results through week 15: 7-12, down $3,240 overall

Week 16 he lays it all on the line with his lock of the year:

Results for week 16: 0-1 and down $5,500 ($5,500 wager, $0 payout)
Results through week 16: 7-13, down $8,740 overall

Current Avante betting tracker: 7-13, down $8,740 overall

While I knew Henry would be a stud I didn't expect him to win a Heisman as a soph.

McCaffrey is the modern "Bullet" Bill Dudley, in that he can do it all. Well close anyway, "Bullet" did play defense, kick and punt.

Why don't these teams simply play every team in the conference? Enought of the LSU vs Savannah State silliness.

Could we have another black QB win both the NCAA/NFL?

So just how fast is McCaffrey? He was a 10.7ish guy as a HSer, he's obviously faster now, so I'd give him a10.6 ish 100m. To put that in perspective, Reggie Bush was a 10.4ish.

So what conference shines in the bowl season?

Henry's HS highlights are like a cartoon. Imagine a big fast strong grown man playing yard football with junior high kids, that's what it looked it. It was crazy.

McCaffrey is the fastest white back we have seen since Lance Alworth at Arkansas. He's great and if I had a vote he'd get it, what he can do is amazing.

But, Henry does have it wrapped up.

See where it says....POS QB...? And what...RB...has more passing yards than rushing?

Back then QB's ran a lot, that's what the guy was a running QB. What...RB...has as many passs attempts as rushing?

Anytime ya have a player with his passing stats listed he is not a RB.

I like this...

All those*** quarterbacks**** came along before Vick, and when Vick says, “I was the guy who started it all,” he’s not giving enough credit to the rushing quarterbacks who came before him.

This is from a list of Bowl Game records

ORANGE BOWL: Total Offense (Rushing and Passing) 382 yards by Frank Sinkwich, QB, 1942; Most TD Passes Thrown: 3 by Frank Sinkwich, 1942; Most Points Running and Passing: 24 by Frank Sinkwich, 1942; Best Punting Average: 46.9 by Bobby Walden, RHB, in 1960; Most TD Passes (Team) 4 by Georgia, 1942; Most Passes Intercepted (Team): 6 by Georgia, 1942.

I have no doubts if I would have listed Sinkwich as a RB, it would have been,....."hey stupid, he was a QB who ran, ok"....hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sinkwich wasn't a RB he was a multi talented guy who ran and passed, I assumed this was common knowledge.

Little people, when will you figure it out? I'm the real deal so stop fighting it, embrace it and learn something.

Chicago Bears QB Bobby Douglas once rushed for over a 1000 yards in a season, does that make him a RB, of course not.

How many RB's line up behind center and take snaps then pass for more yards than they rush for.....anyone?

How many times can I find something with Sinkwich QB?

Anyone thinking this was a RB like the others I listed is a total moron.

This is how it is...

This is a school that has produced Eric Zeier (owner of the SEC record for most single game passing yards and Georgia's top three games), 1942 Heisman winner RB/QB Frank Sinkwich, No. 1 draft pick Matthew Stafford (http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/10272/matthew-stafford), and the aforementioned Greene. Murray's going to leave them all in the dust when his days as a Bulldog are done.

To just call Sinkwich a RB, nope! That above is about Georgia QB's, like Frank Sinkwich.

It's pretty obvious Sinkwich was a bit unique, to act like he was just another RB, can't be done. He played QB way to much for that.

I'm not just calling him a RB. He was both RB and QB.

You're the historian that says he's not an RB. Heisman says he was.

He led the nation in rushing, won the Heisman because of his running and played tailback in the pros, winning an NFL MVP as a tailback.

You failed. Again.

lol historian.

You're done. You've been done. You're just too stupid to know how stupid everyone sees you as.

Avante

Sinkwich was a RB/QB, those I listed were RB's. How stupid do you get?

He is talked about as I showed, with the Georgia QB's. His passing is what seperated him from just RB's, this should be obvious.

Everyone is loving watching me kick you ass like I;m doing now. You are a joke here, you really don't see that?

I listed...RB's...not..RB/QB's, ok ya clown?

In that video what do we see stupid, yep....him at QB running the ball.

Ok time to put this dummy back on ignore, too stupid to waste anymore time on.

Christian McCaffrey will come in second this season for the Heisman, but barring injury he will win it next season. We have to go back to John Cappelleti to find the last white RB to win a Heisman.

There is already talk about his role on an NFL team, I do see him as more of a slot receiver with some RB. He does need to be out in space, why waste his real talent thumping the line?

Its not exactly going out on a limb picking an Alabama RB for a Heisman. Any team that is in the NC race is a safe bet. Alabama is the first place you go. Personally I like the lists. Just not in the middle of an atmospheric pressure thread.

How good has Alabama been with Sabin?
When were the Heismans won at Alabama?

The first place you go is to a contender. If Stanford was undefeated and in the final 4, McCaffery. But Stanford is not on autopilot. I will also look to Oklahoma for Heisman possibles, but Bama first. Also Ohio State.

Its not rocket science.

How many posters are here? How many started a thread talking about how Derrick Henry might be the best RB Bama ever had? And this thread was started in June of 2014.

This thing you have about trying to hang with a guy who has been knee deep into this stuff since the early 60's.....why? Hell, I saw Bama play when they had no black players and we still had the BIG 8 and the old SWC. Why some of you fight this so damn hard? Why not learn something?

Only an idiot like this Blake freak would think anyone figures out ATS betting over a season.

Before the start of the 2014 season I said this.."ok ok time for my legit $$$ making plays"...since then plus $3240. So I just figured it out in one season, hahahaha!!!!!!!!

When my son Mason lived here we shared this computer for awhile while he was having one made. He got a kick out of how this Blake freak was so worried about me (as we can see now) so he messed around with him. No way was I going to hand out free $$$$. Then I changed my mind, and if you have followed my plays since then you'd be up $3240.

All anyone has to do is go to my Avante thread on a Sunday morining and there you will find $$$$$ making NFL plays. I do not lose over a season, that cannot happen.

Blake was trolled and he's too fucking stupid to see it.

As far as me being a footbal expert, I know more about your team than you do, trust me.

Nobody loses that kind of $$$$ and then turns around and wins over 3000 the next two seasons, that doesn't happen.

Just how stupid is this freak? I'm guessing he's retarded.

My last ATS play.

Ok plus $ 940

Will play 220 to win 200.

GB -7

Packers are one of the best December teams in the league. Dallas on the road again. Now add GB 3-1 ATS last 4 vs Cowboys. Knowing the Vikes lost already some added motivation for the Packers.

Only game where the home team has a number I like. Don't like playing road teams in December.

GB 47-26 as a December fav since 1990, that is the best in the league. Cowboys as a dog 22-21.

Now add the favorite when these two meet is 15-5 ATS last 20.

So we have a GB 83--53 trend, that is very strong.

Also...Matt Cassell vs Aaron Rodgers

And....GB played last Thursday, the Cowboys on MNF. That's a biggie at the NFL level

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That look like a loser, GB won by how much?
First time Roberts touched the ball, 22 yards, he needs about 25 yards for a 2000 yard season.
Look for Samaje Perine the 5-10 230 RB for Oklahoma to run wild vs Clemson, the cat averages over 6 yards a carry. He has that perfect speed/size combo.
230 pounds on a 5-10 frame, damn~~~~~~~~ I'm guessing he's a 4.4 guy to go with that.
Doubt the 245.
Never forget the first time I saw Billy Sims play. The game was wrapped up when in comes number 20, so he takes a pitch/maybe a pass (forget) and heads up field, the first defender he leaps over, the second he leaves holding his jock, I thought.....damn~~~~~~~~~ Billy Sims, Gale Sayers and Bo Jackson the best backs outside the top 50 rushers in NFL history.
Yep, he's got a hard act to follow. What more could he have done?
But.....I do see Fournette, Elliott being better NFL backs. Henry simply soesn't have the quicks/agilty needed. Not that some team won't use him as just a power guy.
At the college level his size/power is too much,that won't be the case in the NFL. Really curious about what his 40 will be at the combine.
As we all know all these NFL backs were big studs at the HS level. But, to watch Derrick Henry playing HS football, wow!!!! I'm dead serious when I say.....imagine a grown man playing backyard football vs grade school kids. It really was that dramatic, actually comical.
Noel Devine, Reggie Bush, Sam McGuffie HS highlights ....stunning, but that was more about speed and quicks, Henry was just about being too big and fast.
Its NOW the same with college on the whole you frkn idiot.
Times have changed.
I can assure you Stanford would rather not have him back there. With deep college teams there are a bunch of good athletes on the special teams. McCaffery may have instructions to duck and cover (if needed) or not bring it out. It's a very tough decision because as we have seen he has the capability of going almost untouched.
You
will notice when college or even pro teams get in very tough spots (playoffs) where they need to break one, they might put their best returner back who very often is the RB.
You are welcome.
Mr. Ima gonna bet on Dallas against Carolina because Dallas will beat them straight up. ~~~~sheeeesh~~~~ ok?
Why do you waste anyones time telling them what we all know? Stupid, the Skins would put Darrell Green back there once in awhile.
Come on guy, sheesh~~~~~~~
Would ya believe the Browns used Jim Brown on kickoff returns? A FB returning kickoffs????
Speaking of which, what FB ran back a punt and a kickoff for a TD in the pros, well?
Stupid, you brought up pro football, ok, so answer my question.
What FB ran back a kickoff over 100 yards and also scored on a punt return, well? And what does right now have to do with anything stupid?
Dude, are you really dumb enought to think anyone is talking FB's in todays NFL, ha~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oregon and Devon Allen. As know (or should) Allen ran in the Olympics and was the best 110hurdler in the USA. Well back in the early 60's Oregon had another great white 110 hurdler who also played WR for the Ducks named Jerry Tarr. He was also the best 110 hurdler in the USA.
The Broncos brought him in, a bust.
110 hurdlers and football.
Earl McCullouch USC....ran on a WR 4x1 with O.J.
Rod Woodson Purdue
Willie Gault, Jabari Greer Tennessee
James Owens UCLA
Todd Gurley in HS
Gene Washington Mich St
Quardry Ismail Syracuse
Tyrone Wheatley Mich
Reyna Thompson Baylor
Mel Renfro Oregon
Yes I really think you are dumb enough to do this.
I had rather long drawn out discussion with you about Johnny Unitas. You had not a clue that the NFL had become much more of a passing league. It was like talking to a crumbling Egyptian pyramid asking where all the Pharoahs had gone.
As ya totally ignore my question.
Dude, will you ever figure this out? I've been into this stuff since those Johnny U days, where he had Ray Berry, John Mackay and the first great receiving RB Lenny Moore, all of them in the HOF. Remember Colts cornerback Lenny Lyles who was called the fastest player in the NFL until Bullet Bob showed up. Lyles like Johnny U also from Louisville.
Do you really think a dumbass like you can tell me anything at all about this stuff? Stupid, talk to me about that Mel Anthony and "Squirmin' " Sherman Lewis RB duo at Michigan, how about Johnny Rodgers at Nebraska?
Stupid, why do you fight this so damn hard, why not cool your shit and learn something, ok?
Dummy, remember the old SWC when it was lilly white, of course ya don't. Remember the Dallas Texans, New York Titans, LA Chargers, Boston Patriots, of course ya don't.
Why not pick my brain and learn things instead of the constant hassle?
If you would just think for one second I might be able to teach you something more profound than a list of names.
Will you please look at the list of receivers and the number of catches per game and think why are those old timers you mention are so far behind today's game. I could actually teach you more than memorizing ... no I probably could not. There is so much for you to learn.
What could a guy like you possibly teach anyone about football who has seen far more of the game than you have, well?
And what do I need to know that I don't, well?
Been into this a long time and I need to know...????
Why ya fight this like ya do is a mystery to me, I'd want to learn things. Remember Jerry Levias the first negro to play in the old SWC, of course not. Remember Choo Choo Winters at Nebraska, of course not. Wanna talk Hiawatha Francisco at ND, oh yeah, ya can't.
The game of football unless you are a coach/current player is all about the who, what, where and when. The great games, teams, players, is football. When it comes to that I have no equal and it should be real obvious.
You only know your ABCs. You can't string words together to posit anything of interest.
So this is how we play the game. We don't ask what is the 23 rd letter in the alphabet is. We write a song.
