Hmmm...according to Wikipedia (not sure how accurate):

The regular season will begin on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 with the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs hosting a game.

My birthday is the 29th, so that would be a perfect time to spend a week in San Antonio. :hat

Yeah...usually it's in early August, IIRC. I can't wait to see who our opponent is for the opener. I hope it's the Lakers. :lol

Knowing the NBA, they will probably schedule the Heat as the first game just to try to potentially embarrass the Spurs the night they get their rings.

They haven't made the heat rematch any of their finals opponents on ring/banner night so it'd be pretty messed up if they did.

That happened due to the lockout with the season opening on Christmas day.

The original schedule of 2011-12 had Mavericks hosting the Bulls on opening night.

It's usually a double/tripleheader with teams playing each other that are in the same geographic area. Expect the Clippers and Warriors to round out the night, Spurs vs Thunder/Mavs/Rockets, and Miami vs Boston/NY.

Last year's schedule was announced on August 6th. Scheduling all those extra b2b's to accommodate a week long All-Star break appears to be causing a delay this year.

In the meantime, most of the preseason schedule is now known. Tickets for the home games go on sale tomorrow, so I'd expect an announcement with the full schedule today.

Oct 8 @ Alba Berlin

Oct 11 @ Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul

Oct 18 Miami

Oct 20 Sacramento

Oct 22 Atlanta

The three home games all start at 7:30 pm.

The good news is that we should start getting some pieces of information about the schedule as it is finalized over the next few days -- the openers, the Christmas Day games, a few other tidbits.

By the way, if there's a week off at the All-Star Break, the Spurs RRT might be significantly shorter than its been since the move to the AT&T Center, since the trip usually straddles the break. It might turn two 3-5 game trips on either side of the break into a couple of 2-3 game trips on either side of the break.

Trying to look for rumors today, but not finding much.

This seems to be the best aggregation so far: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-miami-heat-nba-schedule-s080814,0,2690565.story

Spurs are apparently hosting Miami on Feb. 6 and playing the Heat on the road on March 31.

Several of the Christmas Day games seem set, too: Cleveland is apparently going to Miami for Christmas. The Clippers and Warriors are going to play again on Christmas night. Washington is reportedly playing the Knicks on Christmas as well. The Lakers will undoubtedly have a Christmas Day game, too; I heard on NBA Radio this morning that LAL is likely playing at Chicago (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/12/report-bulls-to-host-lakers-on-christmas-day/). That would leave only one other Christmas Day game and a lot of possibilities.

The Lakers will have the 2:30 spot, I think. The report in the Miami paper has the Heat/Cavs game on Christmas as a "night" game:

Heat's first meeting with James' Cavaliers is scheduled for Christmas at AmericanAirlines Arena, in what the preliminary schedule lists only as a "night" game.

I think the Knicks will have that first game, the Lakers/Bulls will be the 2:30 game, the Heat/Cavs will be the late-afternoon/early evening game, and Clippers/Warriors will be the late game.

The league has recently started every full season since 1999-2000 on a Tuesday night, which would make the 28th the season opener.

Having relatively few back-to-backs late in the schedule tends to suggest that they've got a whole bunch of home games in March and April, which would also jive with having big clusters of road games in those early months. That's how the schedule played out in 2012-13, when the Spurs had 17 of their last 24 at home (including 10 of 12 in March) and only had 4 back-to-backs after the RRT -- of course, they only went 13-11 in that stretch.

Yeah, you play your division 4x (16 games), other conference 2x (30 games), leaving 36 games for the other ten teams in your conference. Means you play four 3x and six 4x. Each of those OKC games becomes slightly more important then in gaining HCA.

4x: Clippers, Blazers, Suns, Wolves, Nuggets, Kings
3x: Thunder, Warriors, Lakers, Jazz

Seems pretty balanced to me between the good and bad teams, though the division itself is stacked.

I understand the sentiment, but I watch the Spurs on NBA LP BB, so the less they're on national TV the better for me. The games that they're on TNT, NBATV, and ESPN, I miss--or watch crappy streams. My first observations:

-21 b2bs, only 17 times they play a team which is on the second night of a b2b, clearly a negative here
- the first two months look brutal to me ... 32 games from November 5th to December 31st... 11 b2bs packed in it and 4 times the Spurs have to play 5 games in 7 nights (without Patty I see Parker playing more and CJ needs to step up as well)
- the last four weeks look tough as well, but there are not many b2bs and the Spurs will have a nice chance to go into playoff mode against good teams

I can see the Spurs only starting 20-10, but after that comes a stretch with many easy teams to beat leading to a possible 40-13 record before the All-Star break. All in all 62 wins are possible if Joseph plays well, Pattys return is smooth and we do not sustain a cluster of injuries like last season.

BG_Spurs_Fan
08-14-2014, 06:00 AM
With the prolonged All star break ( that'll be boring as fuck ) I imagine the b2bs for all teams will be more than usually, so 21 is OK. It's good that most are early on.

It's easy to predict the Spurs would start slowly, however, hopefully they could survive it and not allow themselves to coast too much because their margin of error when it comes to eventually repeating would be small and having home court advantage for at least 3 rounds would be a big positive. Obviously they can win on the road and they've proven it last season as they've won at least one game on the road in each series but one of the important stats from the playoff run was : Game 1s record : 4-0. Game 5s record : 4-0.

Hanging out for this, need to sort out getting to watch 2 games in 3 nights in SA at some point in December. Hurry the fuck up.

What games are you going to see? I'm thinking seeing a few of the home stand early March.

They have a huge fanbase. They'll get their televised games regardless of how crummy the team is.

But enough about the Dallas Cowboys . . .

I'm hoping to make it to a few games this season. I haven't been to a game in a few years.

It's looking like at the moment I will get to see @Utah on December 9, home against Knicks Dec 10 and home against L:lolkers Dec 12.

3 games in 4 nights should ensure I don't get burnt by some of Pop's resting policies.

Sixth most games on national TV for the champs. Seems about right. I'm surprised we aren't after the Wizards.

I think we might fare better than you anticipate in the early going.

Our Core should have plenty of rest, from not participating in international ball this summer.

And of course we've already proven our depth.

At the same time we've retained mostly the same team, whereas 80% of the league will be scrambling getting accustomed to new players, coaches, systems etc...

We're Captain Morgan going into the season, we have a leg up on the competition.

As always, we'll coast till March. Still end up with 50+ wins

I rather watch the local telecast on NBALP anyways... some of those NBA TV broadcasts are annoying as hell

Don't forget West Coast teams are thrown some extra TNT / ESPN late games, while Central time zone teams have to compete with East unless they want late 9:30pm starts during the week. While I like what Phoenix has done, they wouldn't have as many games as Brooklyn-Toronto-Charlotte combined if they weren't out West (understood they are in Mountain time zone in the winter).
