If none of the big free agents sign with them over the next 2-3 years,,,,their brand is officially done. They have all the cap space in the world. They have the 2nd biggest media market in the US. If they can't land a superstar like Melo, LeBron, Durant, or Love they might as well concede to the Clippers and move to Seattle. This might be the biggest fall of a sports super franchise of all time. Its not even fun to laugh at them anymore,,,tbh. Hell, the Knicks even landed Stoudimire and Anthony and they suck. Lakers last big free agent signing was Shaq and that was almost 20 years ago. The only thing they could do out of pure desperation was give 48.5 to a sidekick.

silver lining is the Spurs are coming off of 3 straight long playoff runs, so 2015 isn't a surefire ring despite them retaining everyone.

They've hit it though at the bulls-eye, they dismantled their strongest adversary and scattered them to the 4 winds. The rest of league continues to experience an alarming lack of talent & focused talent when it can be located. San Antonio not only has the aforementioned talent, they also are brimming with the aforementioned focused talent. A monopoly on these two entities? They're loitering there.

Not to defend Sterling but the Clippers are still "the ghetto team in town". Attend the game and you know what I'm talking about. A few losing seasons don't take away the banners in the rafters.

Silly. Cowboys have been worse for longer and yet their games typically have the best ratings and sell the most merchandise. I get that your trolling but that doesn't make any sense. And tbh, some part of me would rather not sign Melo or Love because I agree with Phil who seems to be hesitant to offer Melo max money. Only Durant & Lebron are worth that imho, and the chances of us getting either are slim and none. So there is no "quick fix" ... but the Lakers brand endures as does the ignorance in your post.

We will eat the 48.5 million sandwhich whether Kobe plays or not that is our cross to bear... but our brand despite being a sorry team currently, still eclipses the Spurs not even 5 changes that.

The fact you post this only a week after your vistory parade shows how much teh brand matters. Dont see you posting this about the Kings, Magic etc.

But right now Laker fans cannot say shit to a SPur fan, true story.
But doesnt change tha fact that the original post is flawed.

The scary thing for the Lakers is that the NBA is in transition. The old guard is getting really old, and there aren't really that many superstars in the new crop. The 1 and 3 positions appear loaded, everything else is fairly thin while the League recycles and figures itself out. The Lakers can't just go all-in on 2-3 players anymore and dominate the playoffs. They have to construct a team. And subtlely building around talent has never been their strong suit.

If they land someone like Embiid and he stays healthy, they might be able to right the ship. Other than that, short of bringing LeBron, Davis, or KD over to LAL, who are they going to sign to make them a Finals favorite again? I just don't see any solutions in the next 3-4 years.

It's terrible and it hamstrings them, but it's only 2 years. Kobe basically just guaranteed that no alpha dog is coming through LA unless they're willing to kowtow for no money. If he gets 6, it'll be as a role player or 6th man.

I could see a team being constructed around Love, but it would have to be just so, and even then wouldn't be title favorites. You're going to need 2 way players to get to the top of the West.

I think Westbrook would be a perfect fit in LA. Dude plays on pure emotion. The crowd would love him.

Bum, sweetheart, I called (5) after last June. Me. I was first. Once again, I don't repudiate truth. Truth is truth, it's not dynamic. It's static. It's my religion.

Sure, I wanted it to be 5-4 forever, but, I knew I was in dire trouble after last June. I went on the record about Leonard. Me. I did. I was first.
