Projected Team: San Antonio Spurs
I've always liked the idea of Greg Monroe taking over for Tim Duncan in San Antonio, should Duncan and Manu Ginobili retire, which would clear the cap space for such a move to take place.
While it might be unlikely that Detroit simply lets Monroe sign an offer sheet elsewhere and then refuses to match, a sign-and-trade could work for both teams. Under new coach and team president Stan Van Gundy, Detroit will need perimeter shooters, and the Spurs have them in spades.
Even if it's just acquiring Danny Green and a draft pick, the Pistons would be well served to get something for Monroe and avoid a potentially messy situation where he publicly refuses to play for Detroit, which might not be out of the realm of possibility.
In Monroe, San Antonio would get a solid rebounder and great passer, two of Duncan's biggest contributions over the years. While he can't fill Duncan's shoes, San Antonio would be wise to chase the only young franchise big man who might be attainable this offseason, should Duncan retire.
As for Monroe, is there any other franchise a quiet, intelligent big man would rather play for? San Antonio is perfect for him.

Danny is too valuable for the Spurs to trade away.

Not gonna happen, and one of the most overrated players in the league, tbh..

Horrendous defensive player, and his offense wouldn't fit since he doesn't have a jump shot(shot 27% on jump shots, this season)..

For the money Monroe will likely be looking for, any notion he'll be signing with the Spurs is just laughable.

The Spurs will just re-sign Diaw and Mills. And bring in someone from overseas/the draft.

I really don't expect them to have a big offseason.

They'd have to renounce Diaw and Mills, so it would effectively be Green+Diaw+Mills for Monroe. No thanks. Even if it was just Green I'd say no, considering he has had two brilliant Finals in a row, and completely locked down a hot Dwyane Wade.

I agree, Green is too valuable. You can put him on Paul, Westbrook, James, Wade etc. A versatile defender who can shoot the 3 is what the Spurs value, and if he were to work on his slashing abilities then he'd be even more valuable.

Moot point since Duncan is not retiring.

Just another prediction among many predictions IMHO.

They are not predicting anything. He states this is just something he'd like to see happen. That is not predicting. In fact, he states Monroe leaving is unlikely. /thread

In defense of the author of that piece - it was written in late May, before we knew the outcome of the Playoffs and Duncan and Ginobili's plans for the future.

You don't feel that "predict" and "project" are synonymous?

Nope. Use the word Project if that is what BR had used. Changing it to Predict changes the meaning and is misleading.

We're going to have to agree to disagree here. I think it's semantics, but as I've stated (as well as a handful of others in this thread) it's a moot point now that Duncan and Ginobili are returning (which was the premise of the author's prediction/projection).

They're both equally misleading. Typical slop from a well known Manutard.

They "both" can't be misleading, considering that one of the words is actually used by the author in question. As for the OP, I'm not familiar enough with him/her to judge anything about the quality of his/her posts.

I wouldnt trade Green for him but he would be a tremendous player for the Spurs. It would take him a couple of years but seeing him develop would be awesome.

The original word by the author is also misleading, and I've come to expect this level of journalistic incompetence from both BR and no lyfe bitch.
