Gilmore? Robertson?,,,there are plenty who contributed to this great franchise. My vote would be Gilmore over any of the others left out. Willie Anderson? Terry Cummings?

Mike Mitchell....maybe. We haven't had that many great players tbh. This current team will have Duncan, Parker and Ginobili for sure. Leonard will soon follow.

I liked Malik Rose. He played with incredible energy and had a pretty reliable jump shot when left open.

I agree. The current set of retired jerseys is just about right. Other than the current Big 3, everyone who played 9 or more seasons with the Spurs has his number retired, plus Bowen with 8 years.

Artis Gilmore would be worthy as a player, but he was only with the Spurs for 5 seasons out of an 18 year ABA/NBA career.

The other three 8-year Spurs are Matt Bonner, Malik Rose, and Coby Dietrick. Matt and Malik have two championships, so they would possibly be the next in line. If Matt plays another season, he'll hit 9, and they'll have to retire his number. :lol

IMHO, the Spurs should have 2 numbers retired....44 and 50. with the rest of those guys, they should have made a Ring of Honor type thing like they do in football. With the Ring of Honor.....Gilmore, Robertson, and Mitchell would also be added.

Alvin is the obvious player but he'll never get it and rightly so.

He was certainly a superior player to Johnny Moore, whose number is retired. Alvin started the freaking ALL STAR game and had a quadruple double. Granted, he is one of the worst human beings ever to don an NBA jersey. But seriously, Johnny Moore didn't deserve it either at all. Moore barely had a much of a career, being sidelined with Desert Fever for so long. A desperate ownership group trying to throw a bone to a bored fan base.

I think if Gilmore or Mitchell had a longer run in a Spurs uniform that they'd of been worthy of consideration. Robert Horry was pretty instrumental to the Spurs playoff success.

Honestly, though, the big 3 should be the next three jerseys retired.

On a related note, the old time readers of this forum will be happy to know that, at long last, Chris Whitney's number will undoubtedly be retired soon:

Not thread-worthy but it has to do with jersey numbers.

The Spurs could potentially (though not realistically) put an amusing lineup out there:

C: Anderson (1)
PF: Leonard (2)
SF: Belinelli (3)
SG: Green (4)
PG: Joseph (5)

It involves 3 players playing out of position, though only one position up each.
