25 man does not see lots of minutes unless everyone is hurt
I hope not to see him on court unless spurs are up big

I think this tells us more about Bonner than it does about Daye, although they each play a different position, PF/C and SF respectively. Daye is the much better defensive player of the two, but both stretch the floor.

Blocking shots is just part of playing good defense. Bonner is under-rated as a post defender because he has no grace, but he has a good 50 lbs on Daye, who has shown very little in the way of playing good D at the 4-5 spots.

He was Never able to get into a team rotation in the past, he is like the Anthony Rendolph kid, doesn't have what it takes to be real nba player, next...

Well, just saying, they must see something in him because they kept him, and at this point Bonner has yet to be offered anything, not to say they won't offer him something in the near future.

There is a wide gulf between seeing something in Daye and your statement that he is a much better defender than Bonner, wouldn't you agree?

This is why he's still on the team

Maybe he did a Danny style begging with Pop.

He's a good guy and apparently had a great attitude. I don't mind keeping him at all.

Not to mention his outstanding potential (wingspan, athleticism,iq); his former teams didn't do him any favors if you do some research. I think he will thrive here in our system.

Yes, I would easily agree with that. Yet I do think he is a better defender. The "much better" part is an overstatement on my part. I should have prefaced my statement with the "potential" part.

Thats a good point, dude has great potential to progress here besides he is young and willing to work hard (like eating bench for a year or two thats pop´s way).

He gets a chance to really prove himself and that will only help the team, regardless of the outcome.
Solid decision and it ups the heat in training camp on Anderson as he will have to outplay Daye to see the court.
That's Pop's pecking order.
Love it!

I am hoping that Daye makes the most of his opportunities when he gets the chance to because that is the only way he is going to earn any minutes on our loaded roster. I think the Spurs felt they owed it to Daye to see what he could do given a complete season and with more knowledge of our system. He is going to get very spotty minutes at first but I can honestly see him getting more minutes than Ayres on the court.

If it came down to Bonner and Daye, I would take Bonner no joke.

Daye hasn't even proven himself to make any NBA rotation. He's still a fringe NBA player. Bonner, on the other hand has a proven regular season 3 point shot and provides solid insurance at the 4 and 5 position. The +/- king of the regular season fits seamlessly with Splitter, Duncan, and Baynes. Bonner even began to show decent playoff minutes these past two years. The trick is to just not play him too much.

It's a decent gamble to keep Daye but there is already little room left on the roster. So it's more about the roster spot than the salary.

Bonner is getting a little long of tooth, maybe if he took a minimum contract.

Right now Bonner gets the edge to play but Daye will get the ¨development¨ treatment, I heard Pop wants him to play PG :toast.

I thought Spurs interest in Rashard Lewis(per McDonald) was telling on the bonner situation but i'd rather see what Daye could do.

There was no reason to pay him to go away - it didn't save us money and it didn't guarantee that we would find a better fit for the team.
This gives him a chance to prove how well he fits into the system - Mills improved with time.
Gives us length.
Clearly the team saw no reason to let him go. I trust the team more than I trust any poster on this site and that includes myself.

I'd be horrified if they kept both Daye AND Bonner but fail to retain Baynes. We'll be left with Ayres on a contract year which doesn't sound all that bad. Our taco unit stands to be Ayres, Bonner, Daye, Anderson, and Joseph, fantastic.

This, I like ¨The Enforcer¨ Baynes.

Bonner only 34. It's not like he's gonna lose his hops.
