terrible news for a young player, however...
brasil has been hitting and flopping like crazy while refs let everything go, todays game was especially bad in this sense, this feels like karma. i was sure it was just another flop and time wasting when it happened but this is the result of that style of play
and shame on fifa, they have ordered refs to swallow their whistles, lots of brutal fouls second player fractured in the wc no red either time but lets do video review and throw the book for a bite

May be a blessing in disguise for Brazil. Neymar didn't fit into the way that team plays. Now Scolari can go into full blown 5-4-1 park the bus style. Long balls to Fred as the lonely rider up-front.

Zuniga is one of the players that should have been sent off way early during the game. Yes, there were a lot of faults on both sides, but Zuniga had like 3-4 tackles where he didn't even attempt to go for the ball. That's what happen when a ref lose control of a match

You need to blame the ref that let them murder themselves for 3/4 of the game without consequence... this is the aftermath of that, players thinking they can do whatever, since there's no repercussions...
That ref simply does not have the level to control a game at that level....

It started with that weird quick free kick he allowed in the 10th minute. By Halftime you had 1 guy screaming yellow card while the other wondering why it were a foul at all

It was a very bad foul. No need to see anything like that on the pitch at all. I don't get why the ref didn't even book Zuņiga. Very weak performance. Hope Neymar recovers from that broken vertebrae as soon as possible.
However, before that the ref was clearly favoring Brazil IMO. Fernandinho alone made several tackles in the first half each worth a yellow, but he didn't get anything. Same can be said for other players. And Julio Cesar should have been sent off.

Fifa officially congratulated the ref afterwards for doing a great job, he's the favorite for the final!
Couldn't make this shit up if I wanted tbh
FIFA hasn't officially recognized it but several news outlets have reported an Internal memo to not show cards in the first 30 minutes and generally be more permissive... This situation is a direct result. I've been complaining about the lax Reffing it just favors cynical teams like holland and Brazil that rather foul than play defense

I totally think that what Zuniga did is criminal, much worse than the Suarez innofensive canibalism. In both cases they behaved like animals and I think there is no way anyone can defend, justify or minimize what they did, like many Uruguayans and Colombians are trying/tried to do.

again Zuniga did not intend to injure the midget. He is a beast and it was unfortunate the midget's back was where it was. Sure Zuniga was trying to knock the midget down but that is what Brazilians started. They started with the hard fouls especially on our star James.
as I said here is where responsibility ladder for Neymars Injury:
1. Brazil for starting the dirty play
2. Scolari for ordering hard hits
3. Ref for forgetting about yellow and red cards to stop the violent game
4. Neymar - for flopping too much
5. Zuniga

07-07-2014, 05:16 PM
update from FIFA btw:
- they cannot discipline Zuniga because the ref saw the foul and did not pull any cards
- they regret any injuries on the game (sorry) :lol
- No Brazil, Thiago Silva will not receive special treatment just because, he is still not playing next game :lmao

btw I rewatched the game and at the very least Brazil should have gotten 2 reds, as well as Colombia 1 red.
Brazil goalie should have been a red
Thiago should have gotten a red early in the 2nd half for a criminal hit on a colombian
Zuniga should have accumulated 2 yellows, he started going nuts out there to protect his teamates :lol

nobody said its an eye for an eye.
The ref should have pulled and ejected players long before the Neymar injury.
why do you think NBA has flagrant fouls? same reason. If ref doesn't call a few flagrant fouls early its likely a player would end up in the hospital as well.

NO, your reasoning is flawed because the games are different in their substitution patterns. In the nba you have unlimited subs with a really big bench (proportionally to on-pitch/court team size). In football you have 3 subs and a not so big bench (again proportional to fielded team size).
In the NBA the stars are protected indirectly, you foul lebron james hard and dirty and then haslem/some scrub from the end of the bench (dexter pittman :lol) is going to cheap shot the living life out of you while you are in air, with a big chance to injure you. It don't matter for the team's winning's chances, he's just a scrub, 2 ft and ball + ejection of scrub doesn't make a game.
In football if you go all out to prove a point you get a red and your team plays at an enormous disadvantage the rest of the game ... it is NEVER worth it. In the NBA you can injure somebody much much much easier. Sure you get heated matches but ugly fouling isn't as costly as in football, where one mistake really puts your team down in a bad way.

disagree. The substitution patterns play no role in enforcing a clean game. Both cards and flagrants are similar tools to enforce the clean game.
If your assumption was correct we would see flagrants by scrubs on star players a lot more often. truth is, this is very rare.
One issue with enforcing clean game in a soccer field is that many times, the action goes faster than in basketball and the field and # of players is inmense compared to basketball.
