I think Frye would be a good fit for us. Can we afford him? Whats his situation?

He's a free agent and probably on the Spurs radar, but he is going to probably demand MLE money (which is all the Spurs can afford) or more.

I want Channing Fried in a bucket.

All I want right now is Boris Diaw. Anyone after that is bonus.

picked up frye in my 2k franchise, and he is a great fit. basically the same 14 Finals squad, but no bonner/baynes and frye instead. also picked up MWP on the min and that's working pretty well.

love my diaw - SF, Frye - PF, Splitter - C big lineup.

+ Channing Frye would make us favorites. Don't care who else pairs up. We would have the most versatile 15. and no one would have to play more than 25 min in the regular season.

it was a min contract, and his overall was like 65, it's a few seasons in on this franchise, plus its 2k13 if that makes a difference. but ive been bringing him off the bench in spot matchups at a bout 5-10 min per game and he hitsa few threes and plays good d.

it's a video game, what do you expect, lol

This. If the plan to get Gasol doesn't pan out, Frye is my second choice throw our MLE at. He would easily be an upgrade over Bonner, giving us a reliable 4th big who can spread the floor, rebound, and play credible defense.

Really. Gasol is the much better overall player who could get us around contention after Timmy retires, but right now Channing is an ultimate fit and would give use huge and huge offensive weapons. Timmy or Splitter is always on the floor with Frye or Diaw playing the four. Amazing. Even I could see some all spacing units with Mills(when he comes back)-Green-Leonard-Diaw-Frye. Just imagine the space and flow Leonard would have...

I like Frye on this team too, but I like McRoberts a little better than Frye.
At least we know that the Spurs are interested in McRoberts.
I haven't heard anywhere they are interested in Frye yet.

I can't see him leaving Phoenix if the money is the same. He played HS and College ball in Arizona. I think he only leaves if someone gives him more than the MLE for 3 to 4 years.

Landing Frye would make this off-season pretty solid and would be an instant improvement over Bonner. Do want.

I know it sounds kinda crazy right now but I think Austin Daye could be a Channing Frye type player. Ofcourse he's not there now but with Chip and the Spur system, hey u never know. Frye would be an immediate impact player tho, as oppose to Daye. Think he made close to 7mil last year so yeah he would have to take a paycut.

Yeah, the MLE would be a pay cut. He is 31, a 6'11" PF.
It is probably a stretch to think he would come here.

On offense perhaps. He doesn't have the lateral speed to be a good defender sadly.

Daye. Frye is already a very solid defender.

With McRoberts gone and no real belief that Gasol would settle for the MLE, Frye looks like the best available free agent option left for the Spurs. His +/- numbers last year were great, and he's been a reliable 3 point shooter for the past 4 years. Supposedly, he's interested in joining Steve Kerr (They both played at Arizona and are friends) in Golden State.

Frye would obviously be the best fit for the Spurs. But the Suns can easily outbid the Spurs unless a couple of expensive free agents wander towards Phoenix. McRoberts was the next best option but if the Heat want to throw their entire MLE at him... then I don't see how the normally frugal Spurs would match. It might be another couple years of Bonner for the Spurs at a reasonable price and the MLE might go for a back up SF like Aminu.

I'd be very giddy with either Frye or Gasol. Bummer that McRoberts is off the map though.

Honestly, if we strike out on both of Frye and Gasol I probably hold onto the entire MLE and sign a SF with the BAE (Marvin Williams?). Then wait until the buyouts after the trade deadline and see if that MLE gets us a game changer late in the season. Who will this year's Boris Diaw be?

Unless they have a ringer somewhere.

Mr Bones

It looks more and more like the Spurs won't add any free agents, unless it's a minimal contract for a point guard to fill in until Patty Mills comes back.

= Bryce Cotton.

I didn't think the MLE was realistic for him, but 8M per might be a little high. Still, hes a fairly unique prospect in the NBA as a stretch 5. Might be worth it honestly if they can put the right pieces around him.

15 players then.... not even including Cotton.

Which is crazy since the Spurs still have the MLE and the BAE.

The upside for Frye is also that he'll get to take longer off season vacations while 16 other teams are sweating in the playoffs.

There is no guarantee Cotton makes the team.

There is no guarantee that Baynes is resigned.
There is no guarantee that Bonner is resigned.
There is no guarantee that Daye survives training camp.
There is no guarantee that Ayres isn't traded to free up a roster spot.

There is a lot that could still happen...or not happen. Plans within plans...
