The wait is over for former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. Following nearly three years away from the Octagon due to a series of injuries, Cruz will return to active duty on Saturday, September 27, to face number five ranked Takeya Mizugaki on the Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson II undercard in Las Vegas.

Unbeaten in nine fights at bantamweight, Cruz' last bout was on October 1, 2011, when he successfully defended his crown against current flyweight boss Demetrious Johnson. Multiple injuries sent him to the sidelines and forced him to relinquish his title in early 2014. But after given the green light to fight again, he will look to begin the road back to the title against Japan's Mizugaki, who has won five straight, most recently a decision win over Francisco Rivera at UFC 173 in May.

Meh I watched all the interviews and DC didn't come off any better.. First of all he was clearly rattled by Jones aggression after he pushed him. He thought he would get away with the shove and when Jones went at him he had the "Oh shit look".. He also was very uncomfortable talking about the incident and how he was going to beat Jones in the Fox Sports interview where Jones was to the point and exuding confidence.. Watch that interview if you haven't it was great..

This is dead on. I mean, look at his record in the UFC. The most impressive win he has is over a young Patrick Cummins. Other than that, all of his big wins came in Strikeforce. I'd say he hasn't even faced a top LHW yet. The ghost of Dan Henderson almost took him a full 3 rounds.

I think this will be one of Jon Jones' signature fights. Cormier is going to be seriously confused by the length and speed, and if he can't get Jones to the ground, he's going to get hurt badly by the start of the 3rd round.

This is a tough call, and my heart says to go with Jury, but if I'm torn I usually go with the veteran unless they've been slipping. Cerrone looks better than ever and this is a HUGE step up in class for Jury. I think it's only a matter of time before Myles ascends to the top 5, but he's not ready yet.

Not sure how Burkman got a UFC contract, but Lombard was impressive his last time out.

Nate Marquardt vs. Brad Tavares
How are these guys on a UFC main card? They've gone 1-3 and 1-2 in their last 7 fights combined. I'll take Tavares because Marquardt like he's at the tail end of his career.

Danny Castillo vs. opponent TBA
I've heard TBA is really tough, and seems to be cruising right now. In fact, I don't think he's got a loss on his record. :lol

I'm just not impressed with DC's record. Who has he beaten? Seriously, what's his most impressive win? He's destroyed everyone he's fought but I would put JBJ at least two tiers above any of his previous opponents. His best victory might be Cummins, who has a total of 7 fights.

Hendo isn't a natural light heavyweight. He doesn't have the quickness he used to have to overcome his opponents strength advantage. DC is a pure wrestler with great strength and technique.

Light Heavyweight Jon Jones (c) vs. Daniel Cormier

The hype for this one is really big for me.. I am not sure I have had this type of feeling about a fight since GSP/BJ Penn 2.. DC presents some really big problems IF he is able to close down that distance and get his hands on Jones consistently.. The way he throws huge bodies around in fights is scary and his top game looks very solid.. Like Rashad Evans he has big punching power and fast hands. Watching DC's fight lately I see he likes to throw in kicks as well to keep his foes off balance. For Jones I really believe he is the best fighter in the world and there is no tool he does not possess.. To win this fight he will need all of them especially his diverse attacks in the striking game. I expect Jones to test DC everywhere in this fight including wrestling so DC is not comfortable with his own striking game.. I could see this play out as a war that goes to a close decision where Jon must come back in the fight because he is losing a wrestling match or Jon gets control of the fight in the later rounds with his striking as DC tires. Either way I can't wait to see it.. Stay healthy guys and see you on Jan 3rd..

I think DC will eat a lot of elbows, he's gonna have to be extremely careful.

DC is stronger than Jones imho, but Jones is great at using his length. Can Cormier dominate when standing up? I'm not convinced. He'll eat a lot of kicks and elbows if he tries to close the distance. In the clinch he'll eat a lot of elbows as well, but with one or two well timed punches I think he can put Jones to sleep. He might want to test Jones on the ground. Will Jones get ragdolled around like Henderson? I don't think so. He's too big for that.

Honestly, I don't know. I really want Cormier to come out on top but realistically I'm afraid I have to put Jones as the slight favorite for this one.

I can use that analogy just by the look of those two fighters.One lengthy and using the reach to outclass opponents the other one smaller but with big heart and determination and big punch.
Will Cormier be able to even break a barrier of this reach to even touch Jones who has great standup? I really do not know. Javier probably has a gameplan to pressure Jones So Jones would not be able to set his tricks easily. DC is not Cain though.

In a heat of the battle Jones will try to take Cormier down and he can do it. It all depends on the situation.

\The reality of this fight might be DC trying to set the take downs but the reach will not allow him for much and Jones will be counter striking. All the elbows and clinch with knees - Jones is dangerous and I do not know how much damage can Cormier take in a fight.

I think Jon wants DC in the clinch because he knows that's where he can deal the most damage. As tlong says, maybe he'll even go for the choke like he did against Lyoto, or some other kind of submission. I don't think he'll try to take down Cormier too much cuz with DC's build and height, his center of gravity is too low, and that's even before you consider his wrestling background.
On the other hand, I agree that Cormier might go for the kicks to tire Jon's legs as ace3g said, and Jon's been shown to be vulnerable to pivotal takedowns. That might be what Cormier goes for. Once Bones ends up under DC his only weapon will be trying to get a submission but I have a feeling DC's too good to get caught. We'll have to see.

Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier for UFC light heavyweight title - the first 2 or 3 rounds will be very competitive, but I think that Jones pulls away in the championship rounds. We'll see though, DC is definitely good enough to win.

Donald Cerrone vs. Myles Jury - Jury is underrated and is a very strong counterpuncher, so he could certainly put Cowboy away in the first as Cowboy is still waking up. However, I think Cowboy weathers the storm and takes control of the fight in the 2nd.

Nate Marquardt vs. Brad Tavares - Marquardt is old, but he is still a lot better than Tavares

Louis Gaudinot vs. Kyoji Horiguchi - this is going to be completely one-sided

Josh Burkman vs. Hector Lombard - Lombard is heads and shoulders better than Burkman, but he seems to get disinterested in his fights and lose out the lack of output. Hopefully this doesn't bite me in the butt...

As for the Jones fight, definitely had his chin tested with all those uppercuts from Cormier. And those TDs in the 4th round, wow, just momentum shifter. Also Cormier, while finally getting that huge TD/slam; he wasted all the round trying to achieve it; should have used the energy on striking...

I honestly thought by rounds 4 and 5 of the fight I was starting to see a sort of respect (Towards one another) building up in the body language of the two fighters.
