...petition drive (www.ipetitions.com) If any player in the history of basketball deserves one, it is David Robinson. He stands for and has stood far what is right about being a high profile athelete. I firmly believe that he deserves this honor far and beyond that of MJ. At least David has never been associated with any scandal and would be an honest representation of the San Antonio community.

100 years now, parents will still talk about as well as explain the statue that resides in front of the SBC center.....

Like Rocky Balboa, it should be right in front of the SBC center

I think Duncan might be more deserving of a statue. Eventhough Robinson has done great things for the community, he never won with Duncan. Maybe the both of them side by side would be fitting.

That is it right there. What he has done in the community should outweigh what he did on the court.

What Dave may have "lacked" on the court, he more than made up for off of it. I think a better place would be at the Carver Academy.

If you really have to...you can do both. Put one of Duncan at the SBC.

Honor your past before flattering your present.

The Spurs have had three Fall of Fame, franchise players: Gervin, Robinson, and now Duncan.

Do Gervin's first. Then in a few years do Robinson.

Duncan himself would find it laughable and recockulous to put a staue of himself up while he's still playing. But after he's retired, his should also be there.

GG's statue needs to be somewhere like at Jordan Ford. Like the big Indian at the Red McCombs dealership, but this one will be of the Ice Man outside of the Jordan Ford dealership.

I could see one happening for DRob or even Duncan in the future, but I just dont see it for Iceman.

Im for it, but you would first have to honor George Gervin. So how about a statue of them both and maybe a third person like Sean Elliott. My idea would be Robinson with Gervin and Elliott on both sides of him with room behind them to put a bigger statue of Duncan in the future. So it would be a statue of several great players. Maybe several statues that lead up to the SBC Center and a mural of all the great Spurs would work. Have you thought about asking for Spurs fans to sumit drawings of what they would like to see. Maybe scan photos of the players from say basketball cards or magazines.

I'd support that idea. It shouldn't be just David by himself. There were other people who did great things for hte franchise.

Not jsut Hedo. There should be a lot of invisible statues. Some would say there should be one for Tony at the end of important games.

How about this:

Widen Houston St. from Downtown to the SBC Center. Give it a large grassey, walker friendly, well lit median. Rename the stretch of road or give it a nicname like Victory Lane or Winner's Ave. Every 100 ft, there'd be a statue of a San Antonio sports figure.

David, George, Tim, Jesse James, Josh Davis, Johnny Moore, etc.

Maybe?

The guy put SA on the sports map. One of the all-time greats. He didn't win a title but the same can be said for a lot of the greats.

Elliott?!?! No way! I don't even think he deserved to have his jersey retired.

Houston St can't be widened period, much less enough to put a walkway and statues on it.

Also, it would have to be an area people would want to walk through, and I don't think Houston St is it.

Thirdly, it would be a major liability for the city to have people walking there because of the traffic levels. This is both from the standpoint of someone who might get hit crossing the street or from a car coming onto the sidewalk, and also from someone who might accidentally pop up on the curb and hit a statue that they argue shouldn't be there or an accident caused by people who are staring at the signs and not paying attention to the road.

If you did multiple statues (which the city will not do), the best option would be in the grassy areas in front of the main SBC Center entrance. They already have criss-crossing walkways and would be seen by a greater number of people.

If the only other player that has a statue (that I can think of) is Jordan, then Robinson doesn't measure up basketball-wise. Robinson should get a statue in front of city hall, because what he gave to the city isn't basketball related. Why would you build a statue of the second greatest player on your team when the greatest is still playing? Lunacy.

Doesn't Magic have one? at Staples? I'm sure I've seen a huge bronze of Magic somewhere.

I know Magic has one at MSU. You aren't refuting my point, you are just nit picking the details. The fact that Magic has a statue doesn't reinforce the argument that Robinson deserves one. David's not in that class as a basketball player.

I'm not trying to refute or to nit pick anything, just state a fact about a Magic statue.

This is not a bad notion....it would be cool.

Kinda like the Walk of Fame, but instead the Boulevard of Fame.

Personally I don't like the idea of any statue of a living person, or of an athlete. The ones of both Magic and Michael look pretty stupid to me.
