http://airalamo.com/2014/07/07/nba-free-agency-should-san-antonio-spurs-consider-wesley-johnson/With everything pointing toward Pau signing with the Bulls. I think Wesley Johnson should be the next target. I hope they look into this guy. He would be a good back up for Kawhi. Here is an article about him. Thoughts?

Plan B is for the Spurs to roll with what they have (Championship-worthy roster, as proven), hope for some internal improvement with Parker getting rest anf Leonard's further maturation and maintain some flexibility for next offseason. Things could be worse.

I'd like Johnson or Aminu. Whichever is cheaper.

gasol isnt even plan A
Just because we have the MLE doesn't mean we should waste it to clog cap space for any year beyond this one. Anyone on a one year deal is fine, though, or the right player on a deal using the MLE but smaller than the full amount

Never stop improving.
Also, with Pop committing to sticking around post-Duncan and Ginobili, no reason to pass on adding talent to clear the cap for a rebuild.

We all know the future is Jeff Ayres, did you see how awesome he was last night in the Summer League. Just give him a few more years.

As LeBron proved in the Finals, one player cannot win by themselves. Ayres will need help. He cannot fail to catch passes from himself.

Wesley Johnson sucks so much. I'd rather look at someone like Sessions, who could be a reasonable stopgap until Patty is back.

Of course the guy I'd really love to have is Mike Miller, but he's following LeBron. My second choice would be Ray Allen. :lol

I wouldn't mind throwing a few bucks at Troy Daniels either. Obviously not MLE, but you can never have too many shooters.

This isn't the worst idea in the world, actually. Wouldn't cost much. Johnson has been mostly terrible but he's also played for some crap teams and had some bad luck with injuries. He certainly fits the character mold. If Chip sprinkles some pixie dust on him I could envision Wes as a useful player.

What does anyone see in him other than being drafted #3 years ago? Should RC go and sign Vesely too then? How about Tskitishvili?

Spurs have a way of resurrecting careers and bringing out potential to those willing to put in the effort. We like to help charity cases

There is nothing there. The guy shot 42.6% in the Pringles offense. The offense that gets every guard in the league a huge contract next year.

I think Ed Davis could surprise in the right situation. Would love him over Ayers.

Read he signed with Denver before LBJ announced his second "Decision"

If Jeff Ayres can make our roster practically anyone can if you have the right attitude

I thought I read he completely broke off talks with Denver as soon as LeBron announced. Since the guy posted a photo with LeBron's Cavs jersey the night before James announced, I think it's a pretty good bet he's going to Cleveland.
I only want the spurs to use the MLE if they find a player that they feel is part of the rebuilding plan after this year.

Anyone know if the Spurs can sign someone to the MLE for only 1 season or does it have to be a minimum of two seasons? If it has to be a minimum of two seasons, can they just have a team option after the first season?

Yeah. There were a couple of balls that were in danger of staying in bounds last night. He stopped that shit in its tracks.

If the bench plays a stretch 4 Aminu makes a lot of sense. Sign him and Bonner on cheap contracts, hope Chip can teach him how to shoot.
Wes Johnson showed some flashes of talent last year, wouldn't be a bad cheap signing, and so would Ed Davis (time to dump Ayres somehow).

I've said it earlier in the week, but the Spurs are going to have to be willing to cut Ayres if they need an extra roster spot. How in the f this guy even got on the team, I don't know. All I can say is, I seriously doubt the Spurs are going to be able to trade him to anyone, so I think they're going to have to be willing to cut him outright if they need a roster spot.

Dumping him on teams that may need to hit the salary floor later might be the best bet.

I seriously doubt anyone would want him. They can just sign anyone to fill those salary slots.
