To be that close to such a great moment -- only to see it slip through the fingers -- is still devastating. Somehow, it seems to have hurt more and more as the summer progressed as the realization set in regarding what exactly was at stake.

watching the game, i was actually in awe of Argentina's defensive mentality. sure, germany had chances but you could tell they were pretty damn flustered all game. Germany's team defense was not terrific but their backs (particularly Boateng in the Final) made excellent individual plays/tackles. I think Boateng himself saved about 2-3 potential goals but great last-line tackles. Argentina was banking on what they've been doing most of the tourney... play great defense and wait for Messi to eventually break through and generate a goal, a lot like Spain in 2010. tough finish though =/
