Oh and Eminem sold the most records that decade.

Truly, although the good music that decade is as good as any. It's just drowned in SHIT. Too many songs are showers and no growers. The epitome right now being Fancy by Lady Gaga Kesha: Down Under edition

Word. Good music is still out there but for the most part, you won't hear it or see it on mainstream formats. In the 90's, there was plenty of airplay that showcased the diversity. Now...like you said...it's some Australian pretending to be an American pretending to be a black ghetto rapper. Today, the look of the artist is way more important than the quality.

Granted there was some awesome albums in the 2000's from artists like Mastodon, Behemoth, Opeth, White Stripes, Interpol, Dillinger Escape Plan, Thursday et al...however nothing too mainstream. Typically the mainstream stuff is usually BS as in every decade, however in the 90's we had Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, STP, Pantera and Soungarden sell huge #'s while still having artistic credibility. Late 90's there was a boom of diversity that was popular, Oasis, Prodigy, Pulp, The Verve, Tupac/Biggie stuff, even Marylin Manson, NIN, NAS, Wu Tang, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Foo Fighters...all got crazy radio play and the bars/clubs played the shit out of those bands.

There is barely a rock band on the charts nowadays. Not to say there isn't anything good out there. Savages, Cage the Elephant, Tame Impala come to mind.

Look at the list of Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles of 2000s

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_Hot_100_number-one_singles_of_the_2000s

At-least Half are Hip-Hop influenced. There is a direct correlation to mainstream music becoming more Rap influenced and thus shitty: Sampling, no instruments, simplistic subject matter and too many collaborations. Fast forward Ten years and it's now 2/3 are hip-hop style and subsequently even shittier.

Just arguing with your attempt to nullify the list

Current day, the most popular music genre in the USA is Rap. And it's a perfect reflection of the rotting society in the USA

Is that a surprise? Rap is the easiest "music" to make. It's something that someone with little to no musical ability can do. Not to say that there aren't great and talented rappers. But for someone who wants to make it in the music industry, it's the easiest road to go down. Especially if they have some financial backing to put together an edgy marketing campaign.

Too many people already past the age were music doesn't hit them the way it did, every generation has good to decent music imo...there's a shit load of good music in the early, mid and later 2000's. People just haven't been posting music cause they're either stuck in the greatness of the 80's and 90's or they're just music hipsters (we have a shitload on this site)
