A blue screen on my HP Desk Top.

There are error codes on the blue screen and print stating that a software change, or, a hardware part is malfunctioning. I tried system restore to no avail. Thinking I was safe with a reformat and system reset I went ahead and conducted that only to get the same blue screen telling that me if it is a hardware malfunction the system reset would not work.

I was able to reformat the computer, but, I get half way thru reloading the recovery disks and the blue screen resurfaces. I took the side panel off, reseated each connection I was able to, but, nothing was loose and no relief resulted.

I would appreciate any advice here. Can anyone advise if a repair is possible and would it cost less than say $200.00?

Jk. Anyways, sounds like a RAM issue. If you have the Windows install disc, you can boot that up and run the mem check function to test for errors. If it's a memory issue, that's a cheap fix, less than 100 bucks depending on the GB's.

have u tried flashing the bios?, if not go out buy a new 200bucks computer or lappy

Hark Disk Corruption most likely. If you think your computer and writing speed was gradually decreasing, then that's the culprit. If you have any internal HDD's that work, try installing your recovery using those discs.

I did not notice any problems with this computer until the event initiated and it went down hill very quickly thereafter.

Try unplugging the modem and router for 10 seconds and the plug them back up.

Seriously, can you get into the BIOS? To get there power your computer off and then on and keep hitting the Delete key and it should bring it up. Look for some type of hardware monitor and find the temperatures for your CPU and motherboard. Sometimes a dying CPU will run really hot. It sounds like the computer could have overheated and set off a kernel panic off when you were formatting.

First thing to check is on the motherboard. Look at the big, round capacitors and see if any is bulging at the top.

If you see bulging or leaky caps, your mobo is failing. Replacing the caps is cheap, but you need somebody that knows where to order them and have soldering skills.

If the caps are ok, I doubt you can get all the way to the 2nd disc if it's a memory/videocard problem, so I would think the disk might be failing.

If you have a spare harddrive somewhere, swap it in and try reinstalling.
