Cavs officials have become confident about their chances of assembling a trade framework that the Wolves ultimately will accept to surrender Love, who holds more than the usual sway in terms of where he winds up thanks to his ability to become a free agent in July 2015.

Although Love, 25, is expected to opt for free agency after next season even if he's dealt to Cleveland, sources say that's purely because he can secure a far more lucrative contract next summer than he could going the extension route. Sources told ESPN.com earlier this month that Love is highly intrigued by the idea of playing alongside his Olympic teammate on a full-time basis and is not put off by the fact that James' new contract with the
Cavs spans only two seasons and includes a player option to return to free agency next summer.

Minnesota owner Glen Taylor insisted earlier this month that he wanted to keep Love and that the Wolves were prepared to open the season with Love on the roster. But numerous rival teams, sources say, believe Minnesota knows it has to part with Love before the start of the new season, given the extremely public nature of Love's unwillingness to commit to the Wolves beyond this season.

I found the penultimate paragraph to be the most interesting. Love is not going to sign long-term to stay in Cleveland like originally reported. He'll be a free agent next off-season no matter what. That makes the Wiggins trade even harder to make in my book. I don't believe Love would just want to test the market. I think there'd be a legitimate chance he'd leave if the Cavs disappoint and a good team comes calling.

It appears the framework of the Cavaliers-Timberwolves trade is done.
However, there are still some moving parts in the possible deal.
The Cavaliers would prefer to hang onto rookie swingman Andrew Wiggins. That much is true.
However, the Timberwolves probably won’t make the trade unless Wiggins is included. Timberwolves president/coach Flip Saunders might get booed out of the state of Minnesota if he traded three-time All-Star Kevin Love to the Cavaliers and didn’t bring back Wiggins.

Saunders is trying to win the PR battle, as well. Their fan base is excited about the possibility of building the team around the 6-foot-8, 200-pound Wiggins.

The teams have been talking about Wiggins since summer league. The Cavaliers probably know by now they’ll have to cave on their stance of not giving up Wiggins. If they play hard ball with the Timberwolves and insist on keeping Wiggins, the trade could break down.

The two sides are pretty far down the line in a possible deal. Most of the other suitors around the league - Chicago, Golden State, Denver and Boston - have seemingly backed off. They realize they can’t trump the Cavaliers’ offer if Wiggins is included.
Nothing can be announced until Aug. 23 - 30 days after Wiggins signed his contract with the Cavaliers. However, that falls on Saturday. The teams could delay the announcement until the following Monday, Aug. 25.
The crux of the trade appears to have the Cavaliers sending Wiggins, forward Anthony Bennett and a 2018 first-round pick to Minnesota for Love and possibly forward Corey Brewer.

The Timberwolves might want to dump point guard J.J. Barea’s $4.5 million contract in a deal.
One report had the Cavs sending guard Dion Waiters to Philadelphia in a three-way trade. The Sixers have been interested in Waiters for more than a year.

However, dealing Waiters would be extremely costly for the Cavaliers, who would not have a starting-quality shooting guard on the roster.

The Cavaliers do have to worry about their depth in such a trade. They’d have one of the best starting lineups in the NBA, but not much on the bench.
The Cavaliers-Timberwolves deal appears to be a matter of “when” it will happen, not “if,” ESPN.com reported.
In a rather new development, it now looks as if Love won’t sign an extension with any team in which he’s traded, even the Cavaliers. He can get far more money if he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2015, and re-signs with the team in which he is traded.
That puts considerably more risk in a trade, especially if the Cavaliers are giving up a prospect like Wiggins.
Cavaliers forward LeBron James is looking forward to playing with Love, his former teammate on the 2012 Olympic team. He’s already supposedly reached out to Love and expressed an interest in teaming up with him.
There is also a chance a third team could be recruited to make the money work. Philadelphia could be that team, which led to speculation that power forward Thaddeus Young might be headed to Minnesota in a possible three-way trade.
Saunders wants a player like Young to replace Love in the starting lineup. Bennett, also a power forward, might be better suited to come off the bench.
Love backed out of his Team USA obligation last week with the trade speculation hanging over his head.
His agent, Jeff Schwartz, also yanked Bennett out of a pro-am in Canada this week. A potential injury could really muck up the entire potential trade.
So, now we wait.

Wiggins is all but a sure shot super star, but if he pans out and gets to something like e.g. a Paul George or Kawhi level, he may attract FA's even while playing in Minnesota(maybe no superstars but stars). Thats something you can't say of Klay or any package the Bulls can offer.

Love isn't a fan fav in Minnesota anymore. His replacement hasn't that much pressure. But beeing a potential star eases the pain of loosing an all star.

Not speeking of guys like Melo, Bron or Durant. But if you have a top10 player and made some wise decitions around this player (having cap room, helathy payroll, maybe 2 other good players...just the opposite of what Love has around himself) some guys may very well come to win. Couldn't you see a guy like Rono or Cousins wating to play with another star, rather than loosing with their current team?

Yeah, Minnesota is one of the (if not THE) worst markets in the NBA, but getting Wiggins (and at least possible 1$ for your 1$) is better than getting abunch of low picks or players (getting 4x 25C or worse)
