Signing Aminu for 1 mil a year and Jameer Nelson for 2.7 mil. Is the Mavs the new Heat or something? What's going on?!?

Cuban always does this. He signs as many names as he can while letting go of alot of players that did well the season before. They're deep at guards, but they need big men in the West with a lot of front court competition. An old Dirk, and often injured Tyson Chandler isn't gonna cut it.

Calderon and Vince did well last year you are correct. If they let Marion go as well they lost another piece they had on the team already. They never stay with the same team year after year which is why they have little chemistry IMO and end up a later seed. They have top play their butts off just to make the playoffs at the end.

I am dead sorry but I can never ever root for our rivals in the Mavs to win a ring, NEVER. I did want them to beat the Heat that year though on the low :)

Yeah, that's what I was implying. Don't forget Blair. He played well against us too. Cuban effed it up the same way in the 2011 offseason.

Yep, he has done this way back since Nick Van Exel and Raef Lafrentz trade, he always brings in new pieces every year or every other year and they usually don't work out like he thought and they are gone the next or so. No continuity there in Dallas as far as the team goes around Dirk. They blow things up too fast or don't keep a good thing they had going for some reason.

Dallas will be an interesting team to watch for sure. I like our chances against them though. If Kawhi plays up to his capabilities, he should destroy Parsons or whoever else they throw at him.

Part troll thread tbh, but in all seriousness it warrants a bit of consideration:
Hornets sign Lance Stephenson for 9 mil a year
Jodie Meeks (huge scrub) got paid 16 mil
Gordon Hayward got a max contract (>15 mil a year for 4 years) for pete's sake
Eric Bledsoe went to far as to REJECT a 4 year 48 mil contract with Suns
Chander Parsons getting 12 mil a year
The only ones that were okay were:
Evan Turner for a little under the MLE
Pau Gasol
Paul Pierce
The fact that Mavs were able to get Jameer Nelson and Aminu for such low contracts is highway robbery compared to this year's free agency as a whole

WTF? Jameer Nelson last 3 seasons 859/2133 FGs. That's 40%
Aminu last 3 seasons shooting threes (essential for SA SFs) 30/114. That's 26%

Shooting percentages are not an indicative factor of how much money the players are going to be paid, their stats will. Jameer Nelson was very productive as one of the top options in Orlando.
Aminu is worth 1 mil a lone because of his rebounding abilities and potential defense.

I think everybody in the NBA is not envious of the Spurs roster as much as they're envious of the way the franchise is run. Because we all know how much Mark Cuban loves to play GM.

:lmao what the fuck?..
Jameer Nelson hasn't been relevant in 4 years, he's a 5'10 PG that can't play defense and has been declining every year..
Aminu generated minimal interest around the league, despite being only 23 years old:lol..people keep saying "well, he can learn to shoot", but its actually extremely rare to see a veteran player that has shown literally no improvement in shooting, somehow become a competent shooter..
Mavs are a good team that added 2 nice pieces(Chandler, Parsons), but also lost 3 key players(Carter, Calderon, Marion), as well..

If it's part troll then you fail. The Mavs made some good value acquisitions but were eighth in the western conference last year and loss key peeps. They're also paying Chandler twice what they're giving their franchise guy.
Meanwhile the Spurs are coming off a CHAMPIONSHIP, and have resigned their core group to very reasonable deals, giving them a legit shot at 6. The only blemish, if you can call it that, is them paying marginally more than they should for bit players at the end of their bench.
There is nothing, literally nothing, to envy if you're a Spurs fan tbqh.

I guess I'm unsure on Parsons. He's good but they have to build a team. Also Dirk is getting old, and what I saw in the playoffs is he can't sustain a performance anymore. They lost Blair and he had a lot of energy.
There are so many teams in the West who are good and trying to be better. This next season is going to be a dog fight with very few easy games. There are at least 11 teams out west who really want to make the playoffs.

Cuban doesn't understand the importance of corporate knowledge, blows up the team year after year and then wonders why they don't do better.
Great owner, crappy GM seems to be a theme in Dallas and no matter who has that title in Mavsland it's Cuban calling the shots. As a GM he sucks.

What I envy is Dallas market power to attract free agents. While i am perfectly content with the Spurs roster as it stands today, it's nice to have the option to be able to pursue free agents who are willing to sign for less, namely, Pau Gasol. It's pretty disrespectful to consider the Bulls a championship contending team when he could have been perfectly content with the MLE in San Antonio.
By the way, if by losing a key player you mean Shawn Marion, then you're right. If by losing key players you mean Dejuan Blair or Jose Calderon, you're dead wrong.

The Mavs lost Carter, Calderon, Blair, Dalembert, Ellington, Larkin, and likely Marion.
They picked up Parsons, Chandler, Felton, Nelson, Aminu, Harris and Jefferson.
It's definitely an upgraded roster, but it's also not as if the team that pushed the Spurs to 7 games last year is all coming back with a bunch of new additions. This will be a new team in Dallas, likely better, but not necessarily (and not necessarily a better matchup against us either).

Let's examine the Mavs' offseason.
Resigned Dirk for cheap - same deal as Tim, well done.
Traded Calderon, Dalembert, Ellington and Larkin for Chandler and Felton. Sideways move.
Resigned Harris. Meh.
Lost Grizzly to Wiz.
Sgined Nelson and Aminu.
So their rotation looks like:
Harris/Nelson/Felton/Mekel (who is the starter here? who the backup? looks like a bunch of mediocrity to me)
Ellis/Crowder
Parsons/Aminu/Jefferson
Dirk/Wright
Chandler/Haywood
and Greg Smith and Eric Griffin, who I know nothing about.
Doesn't look much like an upgrade to me - they'll be competitive again, but I don't see a big leap.
Chandler is showing his age, they lack a backup PF, are weak at SG after Ellis, and the PG rotation is a mess. Are they going to run 2 PGs most of the time? Maybe, but that makes their backcourt very vulnerable to size. Also, none of their PGs are anything like the shooter that Calderon is. Really, their only major upgrade is at SF. I'm surprised they let Grizz go - he was the perfect backup 4 for them, a change of pace energy guy, but he must be a locker-room cancer.

I agree, love Calderon. And nope, they dumped him like rancid chicken, and replaced him with a bunch of very mediocre shitheads who are neither efficient nor particularly good shooters. I guess that's the price of rim protection.

Calderon scared me everytime he was open during that series from three, him and Carter were assassins pretty much that whole series when open from three (Sometimes even covered). Those two were the scariest guys in that series IMO, Dirk could not longer really hit from outside and was modest.

But their skills as one-dimensional players limits their usefulness in the NBA where more evenly skilled players are proving more useful.

Post of the thread tbh.
The Mavs got slightly better, but I still don't think they are going to compete against the elite of the West, and I think losing those 3 pieces will cost them huge, despite what Parsons brings.
Mavs will be a 5th seed, with a chance to play for 4 or drop to 6.

[ Don't let the splashiness of the Chandler Parsons signing distract you. The Dallas Mavericks have had a solid summer, but still seem far short of returning to contention in the Western Conference.
So far, they've swapped one 30-something center (Samuel Dalembert) for another (Tyson Chandler), acquired an over-the-hill and out-of-shape point guard (Raymond Felton) by giving away a slightly older but better-shooting one (Jose Calderon), and inked the 34-year-old Richard Jefferson, who was last seen blocking Alec Burks' path in Salt Lake City, to a one-year deal.
Now, according to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Mavs are on the verge of adding Jameer Nelson, who's been slipping and sliding since he turned 30.
Which is to say, about two-and-a-half years ago.
Dallas' veteran-laden strategy was enough to put the team within a game of upending the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the 2014 playoffs. But unless Parsons proves to be worth the $46 million he's owed, the Mavs will have a mighty tough time of maximizing Dirk Nowitzki's remaining years.]

Nelson is a shell of what he was in college and is barely much more than a back up. Aminu has potential but has done nothing.
