It was a reception and Italian dinner, and probably well worth every penny given that Popovich stood, acknowledging his discomfort from his post-season hip-replacement surgery, and said a few words to the crowd about wines. Also, Popovich pledged that he'd match everyone's donations from the evening.

Explains that shot of him on the bench after the win, he wasn't showing emotion, he was just in immense pain

I think that's 100% wrong, but it did make me go back and watch the clip again, and find something.

Pop had a higher chair than any other on the bench. It was two to the left of where he was sitting, emotionally overcome after the game. It wasn't Phil Jackson "feed the baby high chair" high, maybe 4-5" taller than the other chairs.

Someone on here called that he was going to have surgery this offseason. Can't remember who it was though.

Eh...it's a pretty routine procedure these days. You are up on your feet the next day and hospital stay is only a couple days. He'll be feeling better than ever by the time training camp gets here.

It's a MAJOR operation with MAJOR risks, with the surgeons pushing it, a MAJOR money spinner, on people, younger and younger, who are marginal, if at all, candidates.

lol didn't read boutons bot link

I spent five years at a hospital that specialized in joint replacement. We pumped them out like crazy and almost never had complications. Our hip specialist could knock out four in a day. It's still a pretty invasive procedure, but new technology has shortened recovery time significantly.

Phil Jackson had all sorts of problem coaching in the last few years due to a pair of hip replacement surgeries.

That was like 8 years ago though. They've made tons of advances since then and really streamlined the whole process. My dad was barely walking and now can hike his 20 acres of hilly land with no problems.

His hips and knees are shot now because he adjusted for surgery to fuse his spine (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/110513) back when he was playing.

As long as Pop doesn't have other ailments, I think he'll hold out a bit longer after hip replacement surgery than Jackson.
