Broncos: Of course the AFC favorite, but just can't trust them to close the deal anymore (and I'm not even a Peyton-hater, but come on...)

Pats: Seems like their own FO has been trolling Tom Brady since the Moss trade. No attempts at trying to get better for 5 years now, but that's what no competition within your own division will do for you.

Bengals: Andy Dalton

Chiefs: Can't beat any +.500 teams.

Steelers/Chargers: Very interesting wildcard teams that can beat any other NFL team on a given day, but could also self-destruct

Colts: I can see them pulling off an AFCC, but would probably need HFA imo, given their still-shaky lines.

Ravens: Coming off a disappointing 8-8 season where every Flacco 3rd down target was either injured or shipped out. Both running backs either failed or struggled to reach 3.0ypc:wow. Now Joe Bags has Pitta for the entire season, Owen Daniels (pretty nice for a #2 TE), Steve Smith, and emerging Marlon Brown, and a healthy/acquitted Ray Rice. Defense is solid as always, with great pass-rush potential and solid secondary play.

Brutal team to play imo...will probably finish 8-0 at home, maybe 4-4 on the road

It's the "healthy" part that's the biggest issue. Right now, the secondary is seriously banged up. There are (completely unsubstantiated) rumors that Webb may end up on IR. Smith was coughing up blood after his fall against Dallas. Jackson was wearing a boot. Suggs, Dumervil and Ngata each faded down the stretch last season. Daryl Smith shocked a lot of people by being healthy all of last season. That may not happen again, although ILB is the position of best depth for the team. Bernard Pierce is banged up, so the Ravens may be without their top two RBs against Cincy. The OL is on injury away from being terrible. Pitta, Daniels and Jones are coming off injury-laden seasons, and Steve Smith is old and plays a style that could get him hurt.

I totally agree the Ravens look awesome on paper. But they actually looked pretty damned good on paper last year, as well. I don't think the Steelers have enough talent to top Baltimore, but they have the coaching and grit to do so. The Bengals have the opposite. I think all three will do well in the RS. All it takes is a stupid play here or there (like Ihedigbo's tip to AJ Green last year), and the Ravens can end up a wildcard.

it's hard for me to get too excited about baltimore. its easy to argue that neither their defense nor their offense is as good as it was during their SB run. maybe steve smith can spark something, but Boldin was a complete animal during that run, and lets not forget that Ray Rice was the player whom their offense revolved around, and its unlikely that same Ray Rice will appear this year coming off a suspension.

the AFC north has 1 throwaway and 3 teams that are all good but flawed. that said, the AFC isn't that strong. the colts have that division by the balls, and while there are teams in the AFC East that are getting better, its still hard to take anybody outside of New England seriously. the AFC West has 1 juggernaut who is prone to melting down. i think the chargers are in the same echelon as the 3 big dogs in the AFC North. chiefs will regress.

so who knows, baltimore might represent the AFC, but i don't think they're that great. they'd get waxed by Seattle or New Orleans for sure. of course this is all subject to change if there are notable injurues

I think what put the Steelers and Texans in the playoffs in their preview is solely the schedule. Both of those teams have easier schedules.
