For games, the GPU is the most important aspect to running games smoothly.
A 7970m is close to the top of mobile gpus. It's a monster. I think it's roughly equal to the 7950 desktop GPU.

This site has a so-so review of the GX60:

Apparently, they skimped on the CPU, and it can't push stuff fast enough to the Radeon to max it out.
$500 for it sounds like a steal anyways.

Yeah, unfortunately the proc really does affect it, however from what I've read early models struggled a lot and the enthusiasts thread over at notebookreview have managed to get a ton of extra performance out of it, and you can even upgrade the proc for $65 to make it much less bottlenecked.
Either way, a $500 that can handle BF4 on ultra at above 40fps is nothing to be worried about. Hell of an upgrade from my M11x and I can use it for work.

Close enough. Remember, 41 is average so it will routinely be above that. Not like I'm going to have AA cranked on a 1080p resolution anyway. Also, I thought the 7970m was = to the 7950 but it's actually closer to the 7870 ghz.

You're only as good as your lowest frame, breh. Nah I'm just trolling you, plus for 5 bills that's a steal. That's a 1200.00 laptop which is an outstanding deal, even if you're running BF3 at 720p, low textures, and no AA at 26 FPS. :tu

Unfortunately the processor means I have to run it AT 1080p or take a performance hit. Kind of bizarre but again -- I can't complain. Might upgrade the proc for $65, as well.

Well, except the fact that they've been rocking the GPU market since the 8800 from Nvidia was out.

Meh..shopping for a GPU on a budget is the only advantage for AMD IMO. I'm curious to see how AMD responds to the 980 running off only 165 watts tdp.

I've been over spending more than $300 on a vid card for a while. I drink better and smoke better now tho :lol AMD FTW

also, the only game I really play is tf2 :depressed got any recommendations for something like that that is newer? Sad that I got a GPU after 4 years of not using a separate one but I went right back to my old habits. Not much for the more "realistic" combat shooters tbh

If you want some non-military shooters, try Payday 2, Borderlands 2 or Pre-sequel when its out, Killing Floor 2, Natural Selection (mix of RTS and FPS, pretty sick). If you want a fresh military sim (won't call it a FPS, it isn't fair) be sure to try Arma 3.
I've changed up my usual genre of shooters and started playing my first RPG in Divinity Original Sin. Once you get around the games ridiculous learning curve (no hand holding at all, I have to Google a ton of shit) it's like a top down view, old school mix of A Link to the Past and Skyrim IMO.

BF4 isn't that much more demanding than 3 in my experience.
You still got a great deal with your laptop.

It's only more demanding in single player.
